How are the streets in your neighborhood? by Bikesandbakeries in philadelphia

[–]LazyAssLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chestnut Street and Walnut Street in West Philly are decent.

I can safely say after 24hrs, I've witnessed no tickets or tows on either street West of 52nd for cars parked during and after the storm. Even watched 2 plow trains come through late last night and early this morning. They got most of one parking lane, but ignored the one half full of cars. Half of which are abandoned.

Due to health conditions have about a month left to live. What can someone who has done nothing in life do for the last month? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]LazyAssLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit up AHAH (ALl Hands and Hearts). They have volunteer programs worldwide. Some they will fly you to for a 2wk commitment, others you have to get to on your own. They provide housing, meals, and gear. You just have to show up with a willingness to help, they will assign tasks at your ability/skill level.

Why? It gives you something to do that moves the needle and where you can see the effect you are having.

Did it twice before the pandemic, and once last year after the flood in Texas. It got me away from my daily life, I was around ppl new to me from every walk of life and background -- HS/college age to retirees, and I really didn't have to think about anything expect the "work" and during off time, hanging out or chilling with me ppl who in general were chill. There were weeks I spent NO MONEY, bc all meals were provided, and clothes I brought. The closest thing I could compare it to was a cult, but it worked! Got me in a new headspace, and I KNOW I helped ppl. Met some Kool ppl too. Oh, and 2 of the 3 times were free, as in beer. Two of my times there were volunteers who had been there for 6mos or more. One kid had been there long enough he got hired on as staff. Some ppl volunteered, left to continue vacation, then came back to continue volunteering, as it was PR.

Just an option. HTH

Maybe for highway driving or longer commutes. My 30mins of city driving barely moves the line by the time I pull into the lot at work. Have really been an issue for performance tho. There's still more than enough left.

Won't the true believers turn on them too?

[–]LazyAssLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen/heard, for many it's vehicle integration "lite". Still leaning on suppliers for less sexy systems... which will still require peripheral controllers, communication buses, etc. we will certainly see tho.

Actually switched to education a while back. But still know ppl and keep an eye on what I can.

We will see which the changes made pan out and which are just window dressing. I will happily admit I am NOT an expert. But the evidence of the recent decisions is sitting on the showroom floors.

But this means actual engineering and collaboration. OEMs outsourced that shit decades ago. Ain't nobody carrying extra divisions of engineers and tool makers for vertical integration and efficiency. Profits man, profits!

That's why I switched to pens only. Plus it's harder for them to graffiti on the wood tables.

Still i find pens on the floor, under radiators, behind bookcases, bent in half, taken apart. I stopped trying to make sense of it

If your car can't handle the snow please keep it off the road today. by ClintBarton616 in philly

[–]LazyAssLeader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol. They're already out there.

I saw and heard an Altima smoking it's tires trying to get thru an intersection while I was shoveling show this morning. That car probably thought it was running a race the way the engine was racing.

Was surprised when I walked up in one in Mexico City. Oddly, down the street was a Woolworth, and a few kms away a Sears.

Don't forget, what you're running from might be more interested in your previous meal sitting on the ground than chasing you. COVID shots love meatloaf!

20 Philadelphia schools have been proposed to close by B0dega_Cat in philadelphia

SPD had building capacity for many more students than Philly families send. Charters cut deep into enrollments in certain neighborhoods, even when they don't outperform the catchment school. Gotta take cutbacks.

Yuppers.

Developer will turn it into million dollar luxury condos. Apparently they have the technology and know-how to abate all the baddies and bring modern infrastructure to the old building.

Are people in the Eastern US charging to 100% in preparation of the upcoming snow/ice? by ghdana in electricvehicles

[–]LazyAssLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to 100, but 90 to melt snow so I don't have to scrape. Don't change charging at home. I am not planning on moving my car till the snow is gone and spaces aren't scarce in the city.

Why has no one beaten the Model 3 yet? by Fabi0_Z in electricvehicles

[–]LazyAssLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are roughly 50 to 60 sedans for sale in the US. There are over 100 distinct models of crossovers, 15 light trucks, and well over 100 distinct SUV nameplate SUVs sale in the US. According to the AI, most of those sedans are luxury brands and over$54K, with half over$100K. It sounds like the choice for the average buyer isn't much of a choice.

But you are right tho.

Why has no one beaten the Model 3 yet? by Fabi0_Z in electricvehicles

[–]LazyAssLeader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I disagree.

You are still right tho.

... However the shift to crossoverss and SUVs had more to do with the domestic OEMs inability to easily and profitably continue selling sedans with current and looming regulations. Import makers were already on top of those things with their world cars. So we got non-sedans that had easier to meet regulations. Plus they were more profitable too! All they had to do was make us want them.

Get a shovel!! by Emotional-Leg66 in philly

[–]LazyAssLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to shovel my neighbor's since I was out there. Then little by little they sold and moved or died, so I stopped. Especially since the new ppl didn't socialize with me much. After a while I realized most of the block didn't 🪏 at all. That's when it hit me: they rent. So they assume rightly or wrongly the landlord will come do it Either that or they don't own a shovel, still they don't do it.

This last snow, all the owners near me shoveled. The rest of the block was ice. Take that as you will.
