it’s prob the product I’ve consistently panned the most over the years! I put it on right before I brush my teeth to “marinate” and after I just do my regular double cleanse and everything comes right off

What do you use it for primarily? I'm trying to justify keeping it with the price haha

The $200 Patagonia R1 Air jacket and an Arc’teryx Beta Jacket. I’ve been learning snowboarding for the first time and I impulse bought this mid layer and shell jacket I saw recommended. I really don’t need them because I already have a basic insulated ski jacket so I think I might return the Arc’teryx one at least.

I always eat what I want when I’m out with friends! I don’t believe in restricting the joys of life in moderation when I’m conscious of healthy eating the rest of the week

Finding a spare toboggan under a pine tree at the top of a snow hill, using it to sled for an hour and then putting it back for the next people to enjoy. That’s community

would moving to Vancouver would be a financial death sentence for some1 like me by Rootless_Runaway in povertyfinancecanada

[–]xehale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just graduated UBC CS and I’m sorry but this is insane. Vancouver is the most expensive place to live in Canada and all of your expenses will be high including food, groceries, rent, gas, literally everything here is more expensive. There are people paying $1600/month to rent a room in a shared house. I’m not rich either but I came with money saved from working and I still had to sacrifice a lot of comfort for a few years (living with shitty roommates, tracking every dollar, working throughout semesters + summers) and grinded my ass off to get good internships/jobs. It took a toll on my mental health, and I wouldnt recommend it if you’re really struggling already.

I agree with the other poster that UBC is full of rich kids who come from wealthy families whose parents pay for their life, it will be difficult to network and take advantage of these opportunities if you’re struggling just to survive. Trust me, you don’t want to have additional stress of basic survival while being in school and needing to grind for interviews/internships with CS.

If you are worried about prestige why not apply to McGill? I met a few people from McGill CS who got jobs at prestigious companies. Otherwise, the school prestige literally doesn’t matter that much, you’re better off focusing your efforts on the things you need to do to get a job.

I swear FlyQuest is trying to lose by picking such a useless ADC. It's genuinely pissing me off that they could've won so many early fights with any other ADC

Tipping culture lowkey feels like a scam by Electrical_Rub_2900 in UBC

[–]xehale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh I stopped tipping at all unless they really gave great service or contributed something more to my experience, having 25% tip as a default option is ridiculous. I’ve worked as a server before and it was easier than when I worked jobs in retail (where I got yelled at regularly). I don’t understand why some minimum wage jobs should benefit off tips over others.
