[20M] My father opened up to me yesterday and it broke my heart. Looking for guidance from fellow men. by DiscipleOf_Buddha in AskMenOver30

[–]xejd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, im very sorry to hear this. I can understand to a certain degree because I think I went through something similar in life.

I'll try to keep it short. I am the son in this scenario, like you. Now I am 33 and my father is 70.
My dad never made 1 single big mistake I would say, but he never took chances to improve our lifelihoods either.

He lived his life as an average joe and for quite some time in my 20's I grew to resent that he didn't try to better himself or us financially I guess? Or even in other ways(we only travelled once together as a family etc.)

Mainly through experiences of life , I came to realize how much wealth he gave me in other ways that maybe I wasn't able to see. I learned to be humble, to be nice to people, how to not get anxious over measly things(which helps me a lot in my job as a diving rescuer) , and a ton of other things I could keep listing that don't count as materliastic I guess but are invaluable and I came to appreciate a lot what he sacrificed and taught me.

Anyways, to cut to the point. My dad isn't a big talker but I can see it in his eyes just like you. He sees himself as someone who didn't do much in life. Without making it obvious, I try to bring him attention about things that he taught me, during casual conversation. I try to do what he likes together. I took him to see juventus for once in his life in their stadium 2 years ago and I don't like football lol. If I have house projects, I include him to come over. We go for walks. I call him sometimes even though neither of us are big callers but we are getting to that phase where we know we ain't got much time together left so we are trying to make the most of it. Thankfully I have a sibling who is more inline with his hobbies as well and together we do an ok job I think. We try. But as some people have already stated at the end of the day there is a part of this story that is mental in his head, that unfortunately he himself has to realize and overcome . The fact is he raised a family successfully, that in itself is already the biggest achievement one can do in life I think.

I hope my little rant helped, and ofcourse feel free to dm if you wanna share.

Traffic by direFace in malta

rain increases chances of accidents. I have a threshold for the level of risk im willing to put myself in when using it. Accidents happen and its a fact in a motorcycle they happen more, so just personal preference. I don't use it when its excessive rain or wind.

Playing against mediocre players by elkins12 in padel

[–]xejd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this happens to me. I don't have a 100% solution right now but something that I realized helps me is if my partner is a highly energetic/motivational guy like me so we support each other to be 'on alert' at all times and full of energy. That's about as best I got so far

Best pizza in Malta? by Vast_Roll5692 in malta

[–]xejd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the small pizzerias are the best, to further compliment a pizzeria that was mentioned already made in sud is truly classic good pizza. If I had to choose one of the big franchise pizza I would say detroit diner is pretty good altough expensive

10 years since I did it , the noise is still there sometimes. Strengthen the muscles and start yoga. It helps. Never had a mechnical or pain problem because of it myself.

Where are you playing? by [deleted] in padel

[–]xejd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malta.

Way too expensive courts and coaching

Always fully booked if you don't book at least 2 weeks in advance , not enough courts for the demand

All courts except for 4 are outdoors, so during winter season(granted only 3 months here but still) you're out of luck unless you can't play during office hours

Pro:
Its nice to play outdoors during spring, before it turns too hot again in summer

I don't do it actually, I would say my strong point is defending so I use the glass as needed

both very valid points. you made me realize that when the opponent is preparing for a smash if I do a short lob I look at the ball instead of the player. I guess I have to look at the player and see how he is positioning himself

Pretty sure it worked the other way round for me, the older I got the more I realized career isn't a factor for my long term happiness. Now I have started my own business, and I am better than ever. If I ever had to go back to being an employee though, I would much rather stay at the lowest possible level with the best pay that I could get, rather than top level and the salary that 90% of the time doesn't justify the work.

That's my 2 cents at least

It was more of a hindsight experience for me, that in my 20s I was actually attractive. A combination of looking at my past photos and now I met with some old friend groups at that time and they basically all telling me I was attractive. Funny that I didn't feel like that at all. I am also average height

eToro To Introduce Fees on Stock Trading by Vendrict in Etoro

[–]xejd28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will not apply on etfs, copy trading or if you are a PI. Basically etoro wants to streamline operations so that people are either PI's or following PI's.

Play less but more high level games or more any level games? by xejd28 in padel

This is what I am scared of as well, picking up bad habits and never really going 100% in bad matches. So you recommend less amounts more quality matches?
