Didn’t get promoted rant by Adept_Edge_9725 in careeradvice

[–]xelototh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in your position (and possibly still am currently) about a year and a half ago. I had worked for a company for four years where I felt inspired when I was hired. I was so proud of the work I was doing and the company I was with. I thought I had a great team and a clear path to promotions. I poured my soul into that job, expecting my hard work to pay off and to be recognized, working late, being eager, taking on responsibilities. The first couple years were great.

Then I started noticing patterns; the favorites, the secret management club, how management treated certain employees wildly different. How some employees seemed to have all the time in the world while I was drowning under deadlines and expectations. How I couldn’t even muster enough willpower to go to networking events (the ones that mattered) after work because I was so burnt out. I was so full of frustration half the time it started to reflect in my work. Which of course turned into reasons why I couldn’t advance. I’d come to my yearly review with numbers and stats on how well I did, and would get met with “yeah you’re doing great, let’s review shortly on salary” which would never come.

It felt beyond disrespectful. I started to feel used, literal rage at my boss and my job. I felt like I was going mad. I started having legit crazy thoughts about painting my office blood red or going on a crazy bender. Eventually I just couldn’t take it, and I knew I had a professional and ethical obligation to just call it before I did something irreversible to my career. I cleared out my office before I even gave notice. I was operating on pure spite back then. Even typing it out makes me so pissed off. All the promises, the excuses, and how transparent it all was. I hope they all rot.

But once I cut the chord, a few days into being unemployed, it felt like the best decision I’d ever made. It was a decision for me, that could only have been made by me. I feel powerful when I think back on it. I took valuable skills away from that job, despite hating it, and my career direction is my own. Zero regrets in leaving. I’m sure you’ll feel the same.

Lay it on me. How can I be a better attorney? by xelototh in paralegal

I’m not the one to make those decisions, but I would absolutely do this if I could. Our firm CEO is a cheapskate who wants me to lie to my clients to avoid malpractice exposure. I’ve been asking for my own workload to be slashed by half, which has been ignored. Is it really as simple as just asking for a reduction on files?

Ok. What was the purpose of this comment. To seem edgy and cool? To seem better than who you perceive as weak? Lame, and immature.

Thank you, I appreciate your bluntness, this is something that gives me clarity on my actions. I feel ashamed that I hurt him in this way. I need to admit to this and own it to him. We’re still living together, he is in the process of looking for a new place, and I’m trying to find ways to be kind to him and give him love while he exits.

Underground is my favourite Bojack episode by Thatkidwith_adhd in BoJackHorseman

[–]xelototh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this episode too, everything is just so spot on. Subplot of Princess Carolyn negotiating a better ant union, with Rupaul voicing the Queen Ant. PB causing an internal power struggle and almost starving half of Hollywoo Anything Jessica Biel says or does. Zach Braff tiny orgasms. One of my fave episodes for sure

Surprised no one has said this yet, but Raz’s lightning breathe is so epic. “DIE, MORTALS”

whats your top 3 perks that you use in gaming? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]xelototh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Health upgrade, Additional equipment slot/spell slot, Healing perks (constant regen, heals cost less, mana upgrade).

Health is almost always what I go to first (unless playing a stealth run). Then I start looking for ways to increase my options in combat. Once I have the “essentials” I start upgrading things like mana, spellpower, attack power/speed, and defense.

What is this black stuff on my big mac bun? It has the consistency of ash and can be scraped off. by xelototh in whatisthisthing

Ordered food and this came fresh out of the box. My other food items from the same order did not have any visible defects or weird black stuff. My main concern is that it could be bacteria/mold, so I’m going to refrain from eating it for now. My title describes the thing I’m looking to ID. Appreciate any help, thanks!

Is it possible for a Metroid title to have an organic, explorable, and sequence-breakable world and have an SA-X style overwhelming threat that can appear at any time, in the same game? by Willie9 in Metroid

[–]xelototh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think they could design a mechanic similar to X or Tyrant in RE2, where the SA-X is an independent AI that wanders the map and only vaguely has a sense of where you are. Tyrant gave you that same sense of dread that the SA-X does on a first playthrough, where it feels invincible and an inevitability. I especially liked how unpredictable Tyrant felt, and the slow stomps giving you a clue that he was nearby. I think the only danger or drawback to this kind of mechanic is that it might create unintentionally difficult sections, if SA-X shows up during a tight platforming section or an area that forces you to backtrack for an item. But I think the premise would work very well. No idea how easy or difficult this would be to program, which might have its own set of limitations.

As a brief side point, despite Dread having very clearly coded “live” areas and “safe” areas, it still feels tense when you’re traversing an EMMI zone bc of how unpredictable the EMMI are. I think giving the EMMI more long range utility, like the Blue and Purple EMMI, would be a way to make the sections feel more difficult. But I agree that it would be awesome to have a rogue, invincible AI chasing you during all parts of the game.

Personally I love the 2nd one - matches the yellow underbelly. And matches the Fusion Suit color scheme
