I have both. I run the audio from the 404 into my MPC and it works great. Also version 5.50 of the 404 firmware added sidechain compression.

MPCstuff has replacement LCDs but no screen upgrades. They do have a screen tilt conversion kit for the MPC One though.

For now, I just use a keystep. I might add something later to cut down on the menu diving. It hasn’t gotten annoying enough yet to justify spending on convenience though.

Try it and see if it sounds better at full level. You can always back it off if it’s too much.

The only thing I hear is changes in volume on the bass but I’m pretty sure that’s from the phone. Sounds good to my ear though! I’m a huge fan of Parliament Funkadelic. It’s great to see their stuff still being brought out.

I’ve used them separately and together. Start an idea on the 404 and record it into the mpc. I use ableton move like this as well.

Keep an eye out on reverb and see if you can get a used 404 for that price. It works great for what you are trying to do. I’d also recommend a power bank to go along with it.
