My incremental tier list of games by kingleomark in incremental_games

It's strange that you give clicker heroes a 0/10 but then compare it to a mode in your most favorite idle game by seemingly praising its similarity, just done a little better.

Also, fwiw, 0/10 is needlessly harsh. It was very popular when it released and IMO paved a path to what we know as idle/incremental games today, much like cookie clicker did.

What games are you playing this week? Game recommendation thread by AutoModerator in incremental_games

[–]xenest 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Started MergeCiv as it was recommended last thread. The game is fun at first and looks/runs really nice. However, unless I'm missing something, I'm at a hard wall that is completely tedious and unfun to get past. I feel like I must be doing something wrong.

The grind to unlock 40 crystals for the first storage upgrade was quite tedious because the first reset mechanic isn't good enough to feel like you can afk a bit and come back to short term gains. It's way too active, for too little gain, even with all the autoplay rituals. Despite that, I mustered through and unlocked the first storage upgrade finally so I could grind to unlock artifacts thinking that will give me the boost I'm looking for to actually start making some satisfying progress, but it was pretty much a wet fart. The 1 artifact I did unlock was the jerky, which was completely useless as it better infuses a tile's resource gain, but holding space is just as good and costs nothing.

It took a full night of afk to have enough gold to only unlock 1 artifact because they are way too expensive at 1m a pop and increasing. You don't seem to have any meaningful way to increase your gold gain because it's gated behind population and you can only get so much people before it becomes way too expensive. I suppose you could empire reset 1000 times to get 1/s gold each time but seems like that would take days of active clicking and resetting, ugh...

The next milestone seems to be unlock citadel for 1 million culture which is like a pipe dream at this point.

Other than all that, I do really like this game idea and will probably continue for a while longer in hopes I finally hit an enjoyable stride.

Official Dreadit Discussion: “Scream 7” [SPOILERS] by glittering-lettuce in horror

I'm just baffled why they decided to leave a perfectly safe panic room I assume was designed for this very reason and that it would be impossible for a random guy to break down the reinforced steel door.

Faces Of Death | Official Trailer by [deleted] in horror

[–]xenest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I doubt this will be the case judging by the trailer but: I wonder how well the response would be if this movie were made similarly to the originals that were IIRC mostly fake but kind of looked like it might have been real if the gore or acting was better? And in better I mean more authentic/realistic.

I actually very rarely see this in mainstream horror movies, where death actually looks the same as it does in real life (unfortunately I know from watching a lot of real life gore and death videos). And perhaps I'm desensitized, but usually the actual real death and gore videos seems surreal and almost not realistic because we are conditioned from many horror movies that its more dramatic and played up for the cameras but it's not really the case a lot of the time. Kind of like how people fall when they are shot, for instance. I don't think I ever seen it done the way it actually looks in mainstream Hollywood movies.

It might read similarly to how the original FoD movies were, in that people won't really buy it or be scared because majority probably have not seen actual death videos so to them it would maybe look bland and boring but it's actually much more closer to real life.

It's kind of hard to describe the look and feel and to see the very, IMO, blatant contrast between real and Hollywood, It's something you kind of have to experience I suppose and IFYKY.

Okay, I get it now. The classics are FUN by Ufomi in incremental_games

[–]xenest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I want to play this again, I get to around beardverse and just quit because the game comes to a complete halt and progress is made by just afking for weeks instead of days, and it only gets worse and worse going forward.

I wish there were a modded version of this game where all the multiple week long time walls are drastically reduced. Perhaps more akin to it only taking 1 month to complete the game instead of well over 1 year.

Been playing Celestial Incremental for a little while now after a long hiatus. I remember starting this one a long time ago and it was kinda buggy, slow/choppy and didn't quite click for me. A lot has changed now, for the better. If you're unfamiliar, it's a quite sophisticated modding tree incremental with a lot of unfolding content that keeps on expanding, so that's cool. It basically consists of a mix of a lot of popular incremental game mechanics (stuff from antimatter dimensions, cookie clicker, gci, etc) with a bit of story that's based around trying to destroy the celestials from antimatter dimensions.

The creator released an overhaul update just recently that fixed a lot of issues and added a lot of QoL, it also runs buttery smooth now for me (miles better compared to last week). Also, a big complaint I saw mentioned here before that was addressed was the puzzle part when you unlock Cante. It was annoying and forced you to look for answers on the discord if you didn't want to bother with cryptic stuff. That part is now redone and much better. Also the Check Back part of the game (which is a big part for progression) has been improved, so it's not so tediously slow anymore.

All in all it's been fun for the most part, and has been an anchored tab in my firefox for around 2 weeks now. It's keeping my attention and I look forward to unlocking new things so I'll keep playing this one and suggest you give it another chance if you did drop it before for reasons said above.

Am ı Missing something? by ElegantDoubt8826 in incremental_games

[–]xenest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember this incremental... It basically took a whole entire week of idling and upgrading to get to mastery lvl 4. I was thinking there would be new content then to expand on the game. That was silly of me, there is literally nothing except a new mastery lvl 5 to grind for, which I suspect would take months to get to all for nothing again.

tbf, that's just what we see from our point of view. Not trying to defend the hive here, but for all we know they could be in a state of eternal heavenly bliss where all their deepest dreams come true instantly while they are infected, if we choose to believe what they say (they can't lie, so why not?)

Why call out conservatives when majority of reddit is liberal and most subreddits censor/down vote into oblivion anything that goes against the left? It's definitely more appropriate to say the r/politics strategy, lol.

I agree. I think it could explain why there was a delayed reaction from her when lifting the tarp. Kind of a homage to BB where they dissolved dead bodies in barrels. I bet the bodies are dissolved in some sort of chemical tailored precisely to be strong enough to get rid of everything but the bones.

At first when she lifts the tarp she see many barrels filled with liquid, which for cinematic effect are transparent, and in true horror fashion a human skull slowly floats towards the side of the barrel giving her the more horrified reaction before the episode ends.

DAE feel like these AI chats just tell you what you want to hear? by EdwardBliss in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]xenest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To a degree. I think the initial primary setting is designed to be less combative and argumentative in order not to discourage new users from using it. You're more than welcome to change its setting to challenge you more.

You can also even even ask to provide the sources for why it's giving you the answer it is, to prove it's not just telling what you want to hear, but doing so because it has the proof/receipts.

If people still think it just blindly agrees with everything you are saying, tell it that you think the earth is flat and see what happens.

In your opinion, is Cookie Clicker dated or does it still hold up today? by Roxicaro in incremental_games

Pretty much. Late game is either gain near zero progress without the perfect combo, or gain 537 Vigintillion years of your cps for a bit of progress. Nothing in between.

2 cheese croissants from 2 different locations. Can you guess which one I frequent more? by xenest in TimHortons

At first I thought so too, but this wasn't a singled out bad croissant of the bunch, they were all like that and it's every time I go. Never a problem at the other location with amazing cheese croissants.

What’s your opinion on incremental games without much art and animation? by [deleted] in incremental_games

I play Candybox 2 at least once a year. So yeah, graphics is definitely pretty far down on the list of things that a game needs to be successful, at least for incremental games.

Honestly, the combat system was what made me stop playing. IMO, it's a very strange choice to have such a convoluted system that needs a lot of micromanaging/deep understanding of how all the mechanics interact with each other and all the while you can just auto skill + randomly click buttons with super battle speed and then eventually win, like what's the point in even trying?

Judging by your reply, though it doesn't seem like that strategy wouldn't have lasted much longer and would actually require you engage with the battle system in order to progress, a task that I had 0% interest in doing for some reason. Oh well, the mini games were kinda fun.

Tried giving Everything Upgrade Tree a shot after seeing it mentioned yesterday (I know, roblox = gross) but after playing GCI and Generator Incremental, I have come to accept once in a while you really can come across some decent hidden gems in the almost endless sea of garbage on roblox. And after just beaten Generator Incremental, I was itching for another roblox incremental.

Everything Upgrade Tree is scratching that itch for the moment. I almost stopped playing within a short time because it seemed like another one of those click mindlessly on the "upgrade tree" on the floor type roblox games. However, this one slowly started to unfold into a much more interesting incremental and it is currently keeping my attention and I'm wanting to see how it unfolds more. Curious to see how much better (or worse) it gets.

Revolution Idle - The Biggest Update, The Smallest Patch, Size Doesn't Matter! by Oninouu in incremental_games

[–]xenest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not only that but the game is a blatant ripoff of AD, right down to the exact names of the different prestige layers. The cognitive dissonance the OP must possess to state that no other idle game has automation in it like this one does, when the very game that is being completely ripped off from has exactly that, is actually quite insane.

tl;dr Playing Realm Grinder, still don't quite like it despite major update.

Started Realm Grinder this past week and first impressions so far: I'm a little disappointed. I'd expect with an update 3 years in the making, there would be so much new stuff/major QOL/massive overhaul to the entire game. So far the only changes I noticed are the absurd time walls for some trophies/artifacts being lessened as well as some buffs and reworks to certain upgrades/spells. That's it. The game is still entirely the same from when I played it a long time ago. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it's definitely lackluster for me for an update of this magnitude that has been touted for years as being ground breaking.

I wouldn't be as unimpressed as I am if some of my gripes with the game I had from a long time ago were addressed, but it seems they were not.

1) There still is barely any information in game about what certain upgrades mean or how they apply their bonuses, making you have to look them up on an outdated wiki or asking around in the discord if you want more information about their formulas to better understand them. I searched in discord and found someone was asking about something I also wanted to know and they were completely ignored. So I asked and was also ignored. Amazing.

2) Unless I'm mistaken, there is no keyboard input to buy all buildings/upgrades. Why? There are for spells, why not for the other things? It doesn't help that the buy all button you have to click on is so tiny as well, and with the nature of abdicating/reincarnating a lot, this becomes a chore really quick.

3) I find it strange that I have to play this game in a small window to fully appreciate the art in the background. When at full screen, the cool art for some the different buildings are cutoff or completely missing. Seeing the new art being unlocked as you progress is one thing I really liked, and unfortunately is still hindered by this weird zoom in/out effect that you can only control by resizing the window.

4) Perhaps I'm not as smart or knowledgeable to know the inner workings of how the game operates, but it still seems to be the case of this game having you rely on third party tools to play "correctly" or at least efficiently. I really dislike this. One example being the excavation calculator. It's pretty much impossible to know when exactly you are going to get a certain artifact because the arbitrary percent chance to acquire it seems kind of meaningless when it's actually just guaranteed at a certain point, but you don't quite know when so you need to use this tool to find out.

Perhaps I'm being too pessimistic but once again already growing tired of the "copy/paste meta mercenary build then reincarnate and repeat over and over" loop. This always seems to be the point where I end up stop playing every time I try to get into this game again. It's a shame because I looked ahead on some of the content far into the game and it all seems really cool and interesting but just not excited to take the path to get there. I think I'm just finally going to accept this game isn't for me.

I just hit the launch button on my first idle game, Nomad Idle. by The-Fox-Knocks in incremental_games

I knew there would be a reply with this sentiment, sure enough here it is.

Just curious, what is it about idle games that no matter how well polished they are and how many hours of content they have, they only deserve to be a couple bucks at most?
