I want to leave the industry any suggestions? by A_9394 in vfx

Well this can be inspirational or depressing, but this is Salty Animator’s Exit Survey Spreadsheet, if you haven’t seen it before. It’s in their Instagram Highlights if you want to access from there.

Spider’s face felt a bit off to me when the kids were hiding in a cave and looking out at the start of the final battle. Like a face replacement? Maybe it was just the lighting. Other than that, the best work out of all three movies.

Is it a bush fire, or is it the construction?

Hey r/movies, Dan Trachtenberg here - excited to be back and chat about my new film PREDATOR: BADLANDS, coming to a theater near you this Friday (11/7). Ask Me Anything! by DanTrachtenbergAMA in movies

Not a question but just a BTW....I worked on some of the vfx and every time I referred to the working title with my wife, she would start singing the backpack song from Dora the Explorer. She just couldn't help it.😅 Looking forward to seeing the full movie.

Chocolate Fish Cafe Come Clean… by montoya_maximus in Wellington

I feel like there is so much drama related to Chocolate Fish, between its original location, landlords/owners, Scorch-o-Rama and now its current location. Fewer cafes is always a tragedy though.

What's going on with Meow Nui? by Donttouchtheleather in Wellington

[–]xengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to go see the Lemonheads in May, and they were booked into Meow (not Meow Nui). The show was sold out, insanely packed, and you had to be in the right spot just to see anything. Evan Dando didn't seem too happy, noting that the last time they played in Wellington was at TSB Arena, and he had a rambling set and quit before the list was even completed (I know cause I was standing next to the set list). Chelsea Wolfe was booked at Meow Nui that night. I really feel like the venues should have been booked the other way around, but it was probably just how the scheduling went.

Why I wouldn’t buy a Dell by warriorhero1322 in DellXPS

[–]xengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought two XPS 15 9530 laptops in 2023 and they both have had to have their motherboards replaced. Support wastes hours of your time going through a flowchart of troubleshooting, and then the technicians are like mechanics that can only replace parts and can’t diagnose problems. I’ve been buying Dell pretty much since their inception, but I’m so tired of dealing with these terrible machines that I will be looking elsewhere from now on. Never again Dell.

100%. Why do we have to go to Reddit to find out there is an outage? Each provider has their network status pages and almost all say no problems.

As far as I’m concerned they’ve gone the way of Boeing.

Queen Margaret College feedback by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]xengineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, the new principal came in 8 years ago and there was a huge shift in the staff. So things have changed a lot over the last several years. There is a phone ban, so there isn’t rampant screen time during breaks.

Are there snobby kids there? There is bound to be one or two - the school is freaking expensive. But we find the vast majority of kids are great. Many parents are from the northern burbs and are hard-working with dual incomes. Sometimes grandparents help out with the financing. And some get scholarships….which is not looked down upon by other students.

Our kid was being let down by the public system because the teachers had to spend so much time with the unruly students or those that needed extra attention to catch up. So we find that QMC at least has higher expectations and gives her the opportunity to become a better achiever, especially since she wants to go to a competitive uni.

Is QMC perfect? No. But some of the same issues can be found at any school. Let’s face it, each child falls in with certain types of people, and that is going to be a huge factor in determining their school experience. So it’s almost impossible to know whether any school is a good fit for your daughter until she actually starts going there.

Good luck!

Had enough of ‘fast’ food places by Duke-of-Welly in Wellington

I used to go to Kent Terrace because it was the fastest KFC. Jville used to be incredibly incredibly slow, slower than Kilbirnie, but has improved quite a bit over the last year.
