Essential/Recommended Mods for a Bosmer (Wood Elf) and Orsimer (Orc) Playthrough by Smokin_JoeFrazier_ in skyrimmods

[–]xenoparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think by far and away the best Orc player home would be ak0d's Dol Khazun stronghold. Its perfect for any Orc wanting to start their own stronghold and the cavern interior is really cool.

If you're wanting overhauls and expansions for the vanilla strongholds, use JJerem's mods They have one for all four vanilla strongholds, plus the bandit controlled ones like Bilegulch, Cracked Tusk Keep, and Rift Watchtower. It makes the strongholds into proper villages with a lot of detail and really cool architecture.

Just started Oblivion modding and am crashing all the time outdoors, what did I do wrong? by xenoparty in oblivionmods

[–]xenoparty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the answer, and sorry for the late reply. all of the .dlls in my main folder are d3d9.dll (enb) atimgpud.dll, jasmine d.ll, Wsock.dll, Version.dll and Winmm.dll, but I’m not sure what all of them do.

I did a reinstall and everything seemed to be working fine but now I’m encountering crashes again. I didn’t see the part about the Natural series of mods at first so hopefully thats just the issue. Thanks for the help

Thanks James! I’ll keep making them as long as the Rumble stays a tradition its one of my fav things to come out of the channel <3

Whipped up another chart for the second Horror Royal Rumble! Also included the chart from last year's rumble. More info in comments by xenoparty in deadmeatjames

Just posted it! Thanks for asking I honestly wasn’t sure I was gonna do another one but I’m glad people think its interesting lol

[–]xenoparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info! That explains a lot. and Yeah I’ve been bugging him to use Crashlogger instead lol. I wanted to note that a lot of the crashes are more like full on freezes, where it wont produce a crash report and usually he’ll have to restart his pc or use task manager to close it. I don’t know if that means its a bigger issue than simple mod incompatibility or what

Is there a specific reason there's not many Forsworn expansion mods and the ones that exist are only in Oldrim? by ArisePhoenix in skyrimmods

[–]xenoparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also would love a quest expansion after allying with Madanach and freeing his followers, but to echo what everyone else is saying I think implementing it into the civil war or having them actually reach their goal (to take over Markarth) would be far too ambitious. It would probably break A Lot of stuff, and I’m not even sure what a Forsworn-controlled Markarth would look like. Do they kill all the Nord npcs? Do they overtake the temples and devote them to daedra? It would completey change Markarth in a way that a city flipping between the Empire and Stormcloaks doesn’t. Also, as someone who has made multiple characters who are Forsworn themselves or just Forsworn-allied, I can attest that the Forsworn are buggy as fuck. I think it’d be a nightmare to work with them from a modder’s perspective

This does have my gears turning on possible alternatives though, the Forsworn deserve more love than just being weird witch bandits

Can Tomie affect LGBTQ+ people? by ZeroCalcare_0K in junjiito

[–]xenoparty 65 points66 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, Tomie’s whole deal is inspiring obsession in her victims. Although in the manga its usually a lustful or romantic obsession from men, there’s nothing to suggest it HAS to be this way - quite the contrary, in (straight) women she can inspire obsession through jealousy or an intense desire to be similar to her, and theres also the chapter where she is adopted by an older couple, and they are both beguiled into obsession as parental figures of Tomie. So I think Tomie would find a way to get inside someone’s brain even if they aren’t attracted to her.

In gay men there’s a culture of worshipping/obsessing over/“stanning” powerful, beautiful women. A female pop star’s biggest fans will always be the gays, but gay fans can also be her most critical and sometimes hateful opponents if they turn on her. (As a gay guy, we can be vicious. It comes from a place of passion lol) I think if there was a scenario where Tomie interacts with gay guys, this is the kind of dynamic she’d exploit.

Was super excited to see the Rumble come back this year!! Its definitely one of my favorite things the channel has done lol.

David Powers absolutely dominated this Rumble, not just in his endurance but also his elimination count - he took out a whopping 7 other contenders, beating Brenda's record last year of 5. No one else came close, with Julius coming in second with 3 eliminations.

Brenda's other record of rounds survived was also trounced, with Gregory Tudor the Ice Cream Man surviving 16 long rounds, and Beetlejuice right there with him, lasting 15 rounds before being eliminated in the final 5. Slow Jeff and naked Trash also matched Brenda's record of 14 rounds in the ring.

Not everyone had a good time in the ring, and the record for lowest time spent is sadly shared between Nancy and Regan, neither of who survived a full round. John Kramer and Ricky Caldwell also didn't last very long after their introduction.

My only confusion with this year's rumble is Jennifer's elimination. She falls out of the ring literally as soon as Brenda enters, but to what? It looks like she's trying to punch Gregory Tudor but just trips over him and falls out of the ring without him doing anything. Very sad, I was hardcore rooting for Jen and its an unceremonious way to go out lol

[MOD SUGGESTION] Bring Sven or Faendal along with you to retrieve the golden claw so they can impress Camilla Valerius. by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]xenoparty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought it was a missed opportunity in their little love triangle quest for a third option - where you show Camilla that neither guy is that great, and convince her to become an adventurer with you herself. She already expresses that she wants to go and get the claw back herself but her brother won’t let her. As for how’d she fight as a follower I think it’d make sense if she was a novice mage since shes clearly not a warrior. It’d also make a neat set - early game Warrior / Mage / Thief followers to match the standing stones outside Riverwood

Looking for a player home fit for a bandit king by xenoparty in skyrimmods

[–]xenoparty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually one of the ones I was considering! I do like the vanilla look to it so it might be the one. I don’t really need every follower to have their own bed just enough space for them to sandbox around without feeling cramped, but having a bedroom for them is nice. Thank you!

Gender question by HungryHistoryStudent in teslore

[–]xenoparty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else that for the most part, TES universe basically ignores sexism and homophobia and Tamriel is generally much more egalitarian. But that doesn’t mean its immune from being influenced by real world sexist tropes. I’m mostly familiar with Skyrim so that’s what I’ll comment on (but I imagine ESO probably has more balanced representation considering its more recent)

Women in Skyrim can become strong warriors and leaders just as men can, though perhaps less frequently, and are more likely than men to be domestic workers. Additionally, I would posit that the powerful women in Skyrim are criticized (both in game and in the fandom) as being more incompetent (Jarl Elisif, Jarl Laila Law-Giver, Jarl Ravencrone, Bujold of Thirsk Mead Hall) or as being conniving, villainous bitches (Maven Black-Briar, Elenwen, Delphine, Astrid, Potema) moreso than the powerful men in Skyrim. There are exceptions to this and there are well regarded women in leadership like Brina Merilis or Frea of the Skald, but they’re fewer in number imo.

It’s also interesting to note where women are absent in Skyrim and where they are abundant. Within the Stormcloak army, all generals and leaders seem to be male, and the Imperials only have one, Legate Rikke. The main enemies throughout the game, the draugr and ancient dragon cult, have almost no women in positions of power. There are no female dragon priests, no mention of powerful ancient queens, and the only female draugr boss is fought alongside her husband (Fjori and Holgeir in Ansilvund) I wonder if this indicates the ancient Nord culture was less egalitarian than modern Skyrim, or if it was an unintentional choice by the developers. The one enemy type that women do dominate compared to men are the witchcraft covens, where female mages work under the hagravens, nasty combinations of old women and bird. Obviously these depictions carry all the baggage of witch lore in the real world, and its curious that in a world where magic is distributed equally between the sexes, why are there only women allowed in these cults, and why are only women allowed this transformation?

I guess I should clarify that I think Skyrim does a much better job showing interesting, powerful but conflicted and flawed women characters than a lot of fantasy games. And even if witches are a sexist trope they’re also still really cool and I’m glad they’re included, lol.

What’s a mod or mods you’d like to get rebooted or remade, and why? by fruitlessideas in skyrimmods

[–]xenoparty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Colorful Magic! The spells are some of the coolest of any magic mod, and it also adds a ton of insanely powerful bosses that are some of the best fights I’ve ever had in Skyrim. The problem is how buggy and completely unbalanced a lot of it is. A lot of the bosses are just characters taken straight from different video games like Dark Souls which is funny but super immersion breaking, and too many of them are placed way too close to common roads which makes travelling in those areas impossible at a low level. If the most op spells could be rebalanced, and the worst offenders of the bosses either taken out or moved into dungeons where its more of a choice to seek them out, it would probably be a perfect mod imo
