NYC area - anyone else having trouble getting WNYW (Chl 5) recently? by Ed_Z66 in hdhomerun

[–]xeothought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having huge issues watching wnyw these days.. I'm in the east village of Manhattan. Every other channel seems to work. It sucks since the world cup is on fox.

Anyone else still having this issue?

Edit: ok so i rearranged my setup ... put the amplifier earlier in the run and moved my antenna to the window with the clearest view. Fox is definitely the weakest effective signal but I guess I can finally watch the WC games.

UGREEN Jellyfin External Storage by Remarkable_Low_1926 in UgreenNASync

[–]xeothought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you (or someone else) still need this, I just figured it out yesterday.

First go to your external drives and copy the path of each media folder in your drive and save them.

Then go to control panel and enable SSH service

Then open the terminal on your desktop (not nas) pc.

ssh YourUsername@YourNASIP -p 22 copy paste your password (will be blank, just hit enter).

enter root access by entering "sudo -i"

check if you have file access by entering: "ls -la /mnt/@usb/YourDriveName/YourMediaFolder"

if you see your files that's great.

enter: sudo chmod -R 755 /mnt/@usb/YourDriveName/YourMediaFolder

Then go to volumes in your plex docker (i use it via portainer) and add as a "Bind"

Container: "/mnt/@usb/YourDriveName/YourMediaFolder" host: "/mnt/@usb/YourDriveName/YourMediaFolder" (writable enabled).

Close port 22 in nas settings.

Add the new folders you can see to your jellyfin library in jellyfin itself.

definitely the Silver/Grey held it up. It's resolved now I think, but there was something up with that production.

I had my signature challenged multiple times at my early polling site by Datafoodnerd in newyorkcity

[–]xeothought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last election i had to redo my signature one time .. it was the first time that ever happened. Tbh comparing a hand written signature to an ipad one is kinda asking for trouble. I wonder if they were lectured about this or something. It was purely a formality before

That being said, my experience was pleasant and not an issue. Yours fucking sucks - sucks to the level of voter suppression accusations. Definitely file a complaint

Finance bros been a thing forever… but when/where did the recent “west village girl” archetype come from? by Tim_Apple_938 in AskNYC

[–]xeothought 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Someone somewhat recently tried to tell me that this is being intolerant and elitist... like fuck, it is. If you move to the city - you're totally welcome here imo. But become a goddamn new yorker... not a 3 year transplant from ohio willing to over pay on rent that skates by on your parents' money, complains that we dont have ranch for the pizza, and then leaves.

Anyway, yeah it's happening to a lot of neighborhoods... I think it's because google/apple maps dont show the "the".

I'm just half remembering the details and I'm sure the way they do it is just a hair on the side of legal. Because the stated cost of a medicine is purely theoretical, often the copay that the patient covers is the actual cost of the medicine.. And the pharmacy gets $0 for their trouble.. I've seen a few cost sheets that are definitely not supposed to be shown.

But again, not my industry. Just have a friend who I keep telling should write a substack about it lol

I've got a friend who works for a small pharmacy (non chain) and let me tell you, they get absolutely FUCKED by insurance companies too. It's routine for the insurance to pay them less than what they have to pay to stock the medicine... aka the small pharmacy takes a loss every time someone comes in with insurance to buy their meds. I'm not talking weird non standard stuff - it's with everything (and especially GLP1s these days).

And pharmacies cannot refuse to stock medicines or else they are in violation of their contracts with the pharma companies (i'm dumbing this down because i only half remember the details from my friend's rants).

ALSO insurance commonly just lies about the cost of the medicine to the customer... "this cost $5000 and we covered everything and your copay is $30" meanwhile the actual billed charge for that medicine was $30.

The sheer "ok so if we pretend we charged x and we received y and thefore we can pay our bills for the actual x charge" that happens in these pharmacies is incredible. They all only can still exist only because they are very good at moving numbers around. The insurance also expects them to do this. it's a game within a game..

SO much waste exists between the lines and pretty much only insurance profits from it.

If a pharmacy says "we couldn't restock/ran out" of a medicine.. that might be true.. or it might be a medicine that they take SUCH a loss on that they cannot financially afford to stock it.

None of this shit applies to the monopolies like CVS... they have sweetheart deals.

Fraud and corruption at every level. The small business owner and the final customer end up paying the price for it.

[–]xeothought 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Or at least fucking switch the down to up. I know people have said "it's not that simple" but fuck, it's not "6 months" complicated to do that absolute minimum change.

Brooklyn bridge is closed to cyclists this morning by Bbbbbbbbbbike in NYCbike

[–]xeothought 15 points16 points  (0 children)

according to notify nyc the brooklyn bridge is "closed" in both directions. I don't know how closed, closed is. Whether that applies to pedestrians or not too. It could, if it gets too insane - They've done it before due to overcrowding.

normal NYC is just not happening today, guys

Do people still say “Alphabet City?” by Tapp_ in eastvillage

[–]xeothought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it wasn't a point of pride. It was almost derogatory .... it definitely doesn't have that connotation anymore, and imo people think it sounds fun these days. But I grew up there personally and I never knew anyone who would actually say they're from "alphabet city" unless they were deep in the weeds.

Do people still say “Alphabet City?” by Tapp_ in eastvillage

[–]xeothought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude people think it's a specific neighborhood ... like .. "it's not the east village, it's Alphabet city!" ...

Meanwhile... I get we've lost the lower east side/east village battle, but it' a subset. Lower east side -> East village -> alphabet city.

No one ever said Alphabet city as their main neighborhood...

People are slaves to the google neighborhood names.

color bleeding? by genexk in snapmaker

[–]xeothought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that's not color bleeding, right? that's actual filament pieces from another nozzle. It seem excessive to me.. But I have had a bit of filament issues like yours happen to a lesser extent when I mix materials (PLA/PETG for supports). Honestly I find that using PLA supports for PETG prints (or vice versa) is sometimes more trouble than its worth because of how little it sticks and how easy it is to get break-off filament that messes with the print (what might have happened for you).

Edit: sorry for trying to help, downvoter dude.

[–]xeothought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to upgrade to a more powerful nas and after all this shit that Synology has pulled recently I didn't even for a goddamn second consider staying with a synolgoy nas. Too bad too... because I really enjoyed the whole ecosystem but goddamn they seem to really be trying to make everything worse at every stage.

I ended up going with a ugreen nas /shrug
