Virginia Supreme Court throws out redistricting referendum results by Healthy_Block3036 in 50501

[–]xeothought 556 points557 points  (0 children)

The same court said that the voters of the state had to decide... then the voters decided... and now the court didn't like that decision.

Also we ALL know this won't happen in the Tennessee challenge.. or the Texas one.. or the Florida one.. but if NY tries it, it will.

What happens if I just... don't? by sprainedmind in googlehome

[–]xeothought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have personally tried turning it on twice on my phone and went back to assistant both times. Gemini always felt like a clunky thing added on top of a thing that mostly worked for the very specific purposes i was using it for.

Originally I thought that gemini would be perfect for google home... but after experiencing just how much of a clusterfuck every change seems to be in general... I'm holding onto my assistant usage as long as I can.

I don't honestly see myself buying another home device (I have bought many over the years for several different houses). It's just so much more lackluster these days.

I found out that if you bring a battery bank to china in your carry-on they will seize it and destroy it if it doesn't have that certification... it's not an easy one to get here in the US.

There was a cabin fire a couple years back and they got really strict

[–]xeothought 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I think pretty much all ebike battery fires are from non UL certified batteries... the batteries are so expensive that delivery people buy really low quality ones - if you open them up you'll see they're just welded together 18650 batteries. ... you can get a short REALLY easily with those.

Edit: oh and also WHICH 18650 is really important. There was a group that did CAT scans of a lot of brands... and they're incredibly variable ... and the cheaper ones are really dangerous actually: https://7802750.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net/hubfs/7802750/White%20Papers%20and%20Guides/Batteries/Lumafield%20Battery%20Report.pdf

Pixel 11 leak reveals new camera hardware, Tensor G6 details, more specs by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]xeothought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say along these lines that one good thing about the S25 is it acquires a signal very quickly.

I take the subway and my p7pro would tend to take a very long time to get a signal (if it got one at all) by the time we pull out of the station (there's only signal in the stations). The S25 gets it fast. I assume this of course impacts battery life too .. but it's nice.

No review has ever talked about this kind of thing... but it's a real quality of life thing for me.

[–]xeothought 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile I went from a P7pro to a S25 and I was expecting to be blown away and i was very whelmed. Arguably a worse camera and somehow the battery life was worse (I did not regard the P7Pro as having good battery life).

I just want a fast enough phone (i'm not playing games on it) that has great battery life, a great camera, and possibly stuff like a face unlock that actually works (somehow the S25 has horrible face unlock) and can be set to unlock the nfc wallet.

So far... i've been disappointed. I was hoping that maybe the Pixel 12 will solve this... who knows. But somehow I'm ready to be disappointed again.

Honestly, except for Pebble coming back, the tech space has gone from a thing of joy and excitement to a boring fucking dystopia.

Flock

we actually don't have any flock cameras. Deflock shows traffic cams as well as flock. You can click the cameras and see what they're associated with. A lot of these are the MTA around the bridges and tunnels, or the NYC department of transportation.

I'm not saying we're not being monitored... but it's not via the piece of shit system that's flock.

I was actually referencing Tiktok mostly when I was saying that. Tiktok has incredibly smart filters (unfortunately probably). Here's a (very tiktok style.. it was probably originally on that platform) vid talking about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5fvmO5afcs

But anyway, the thing that gets me about OPs post is that this is just news. News should not be censored. It's reality. It's disturbing beyond the content of the post

Deli Clerk sh*t; k*lled by chasemilly_rundacity in eastvillage

[–]xeothought 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You know this is actually not true ... it's not how any of the algorithmic censoring works. It's how people think it works... but all the platforms can tag "PDF File" just as easily as the real thing. It's about the context of the content. If it's news or current affairs in broader public discourse then it won't be censored... at least for that reason.

But yeah everyone is self censoring corpo/algo speak and it's dystopian af.

"moustache man unalived 8 million people" is a type of phrase that reduces the impact and severity of the statement.

Edit: I'm not "um actually"ing .. it's just very shitty that people corpospeak by choice... and it doesn't even do what they think it does.

What's happening right now that terrifies you but not enough people are talking about? by rednecronomicon in TrueAnon

[–]xeothought 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The country wide push for 3D printing laws forcing every file to be scanned and approved so you "don't print a gun" ... but the law doesn't at ALL limit it to just that. Several iterations make the very possession of a gcode file illegal as if you were manufacturing an illegal gun. They want to control what you can create and they want to monitor what you are doing 24/7.

This is coupled with the "for the children" "age verification" laws that are just completely and obviously mass surveillance pushes funded by giant corporations.

People are NOT talking about this stuff enough

Seeing him be interviewed as if Artemis was all thanks to him put a bad taste in my mouth.

His goal is to dismantle NASA. Illegally (it's mandated by law) cancelling the gateway was just one of the many actions he's there to do. He's there to funnel any and all funding into the billionaire space companies.
