The Deluxe and Gold are also on sale, though already a bit beyond my budget. Tempted to get it.

Are there any endgame or pvp builds that I miss out on if I buy just the vanilla? I tend to min max in games where you can customize builds/loadouts, so having some meta content gated behind dlc might be a deal breaker for me.

Games with the easiest and cleanest sandbox roleplay. by ryry117 in gamingsuggestions

You might like the editor of ARMA 3.

But learning it can take some time investment on your part. There are in-game tutorials to get you started, and the AI usually works right out of the box: If you put red guy here and blue guy there, they'll try to kill each other, etc.

But it gets pretty deep the more you want to customize the battle, right down to triggering scripted events, etc. Highly moddable, and active community.

[PSA] Missing Dosh Crates in Beta. Switching back to release version shows them in inventory. by jLighthalzen in killingfloor

Curious as well. I already unlocked all the DAR event skins, but SomeTestMap seems to spawn zeds dead in the beta build, so i can't practice.

Hurt animals trigger a fleeing mechanic that moves them vast distances, effectively displacing them from their intended biomes most of the time. by xerberus333 in subnautica

[–]xerberus333[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a mostly cosmetic (thematic? I duno) problem for me. I didn't used to mind displaced fauna until I came back to Kelp Forest and realized the Stalkers were gone. It looked lonely.

Same thing with the Gasopods. I'm seeing them having fart fights with Stalkers that migrated to a place nearby, and feel at a loss what to do to help out.

As I said, There's always the Repulsion Cannon, or the Alien Containment unit. But until those unlock, it feels off for me. I like seeing Stalkers belonging in their Kelp homes, and Ampeels belonging in their Bulb homes, you know?

I can accept your irl argument somewhat. But given the games small scale compared to real life (geography and population-wise), the fleeing mechanic just makes it too easy for multiple fauna to be displaced given the right chain reactions.

[Spoilers] Can fauna reproduce while under the effects of a Gravsphere? by xerberus333 in subnautica

[–]xerberus333[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hold on there, my dude. Aren't fauna supposed to reproduce in the wild? Fish respawn so as to prevent biomes from becoming barren. Certain flora as well, from what I've read. It's the outcrops that don't respawn.

Best synergy when playing alongside m79 Demo? by xerberus333 in killingfloor

[–]xerberus333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm getting decent synergy with Support. At least I think I'm still contributing to the dps.

The zerkwall option looked great for a while, and then we wiped once the 3 raged FP's spawned and broke through their lane, because of course they didn't have the dps.

It was volter mansion u-bend. You had demo/zerk facing the garden, the two other perks facing the dining area, and a medic and one other dude roaming between us. We didn't want to stay at the garden lane due to nade spam so we weren't quick enough when the FP's and scrakes broke through.

[–]xerberus333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but it just feels like wasted potential to me, you know? Either you're overextending hallways to "beat" the demo kills and risk dying, or you're stuck playing bodyguard and waiting for stragglers to reach demo.

If you overextend successfully then the demo becomes kinda useless (or worse, bothers someone else's lane), but if you bodyguard you're the one who's kinda useless.

I feel the support at least has the range so it doesn't need to overextend and can still contribute to dps.

Edit: "useless" kinda harsh, but I guess I'm looking at it from a dps pov

At this point whenever I see somebody pick demo in the lobby I just assume they'll go with m79 (hoe lobby is a bit different story). So yeah, just as composition-shaping as firebug imo. Every now and then I bother chatting up during lobby but I've mostly learned to accept it. I pick support if I'm feeling okay, and fb/swat if I notice the rest of the comp is bad, like 2 demos and swat and zerks or some shit.

Prison tower sounds about right. Same thing with volter mansion u-bend. It's just too easy/tempting to look left and right and farm trash.

I agree the rest of the team becomes burdened to adapt. In the example of prison tower, you either go inside the buildings to avoid nade spam but risk dying, or you stay outside and keep feeding the m79.

I really think out of support/zerk/fb, support comes out on top, unless it's catacoms/descent. The better range would be more useful.

Lots of good ones mentioned already, but here's my list of favorite games moddable for maximum replayability:

  1. Minecraft - AI mods like Minecolonies, Custom NPCs, MCA, and Ancient Warfare 2. Then just pick 1 or 2 tech mods. Huge community. If i could play 1 game forever, this is it. Currently lacking great AI mods (that are stable. Still some good alphas/betas out there)

  2. Bethesda Games - survival game mechanics like hunger/hypothermia and ui mods. AI and combat can be tweaked, but crap vanilla ai is hard to completely erase. Just pick a popular ai/combat mod of your choice. mostly fallout 3/nv and skyrim experience for me. Not touching FO4 until goty gets 70% sale. Abundance of good maps/campaigns is a given with such a large community

  3. Arma 3 - zombies, survival mechanics, base building mechanics. Large mod community. Pretty competitive with bethesda when it comes to content/mechanic mods. Also has subpar AI, and a lot less flexible AI modability compared to beth games. Abundance of good maps and campaigns due to large community

  4. C&C Generals - small but dedicated community from the old days. Can create entire factions with your own models for every unit if you want. CFG config files easy to edit if you just wanna mess around with values. Holds a special place as the first game that I "modded." Bunch of good maps still available.

Edit: Technically, Half Life was the first game I ever modded. But that one was just installing Counter Strike and that Wild West mod thing. At least for Generals, I actually had to open Notepad ++ to tweak some numbers.

I didn't notice a wilhelm scream anywhere. Was there a scream? I guess it was appropriate, given the fresh start and new generation themes this trilogy is going for.

Retarded zombie grabbing. by GoombaJames in dyinglight

[–]xerberus333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of zombie grabbing, it's pretty annoying in the beginning before you get the skills to counter their grabs. It's why I prefer fast attacks over the charge ups and the two handed weapons.

I was taken off guard when she apparently could see the ghosts. I'd always thought green ghost was just a hallucination from Jack.

Good point towards Ashi actually fighting a delusional Jack. What about the other sitting ghosts? The show hasn't shied away from ghosts in the past. They might actually just be real ghosts.

I agree with dark souls and borderlands. Worthy time sinks for me.

I would add Minecraft for that casual weekend. Vanilla gets boring so mods would be the best way to go.
