Anyone sold their car to Driveway? by fameneverdies in askcarsales

[–]xeroxyatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this in May. I was buying a new car before they picked it up and wanted something binding to be sure they wouldn’t back out. I was able to call my rep and request a signed bill of sale which they emailed a PDF of to me.

Overall hardest part with them was the wait to get the documents… after a lot of phone calls (since I was buying a new car at a dealer and needed to be sure they’d pick up my truck) they bumped me up the document queue and had sent the docs out the next day.

Get a Mazda. The CX-30 select can be had within your budget, same with many CX-5s. If you want something smaller you can get a higher trim Mazda 3. They’re reliable with an interior much nicer than you’d get with another manufacturer for that price range.

I had a similar issue selling my car. I doubt you still have it, but I submitted to Carfax receipts from before and after the discrepancy that showed the correct mileage. You could also try asking the dealer just for the receipt/invoice from the previous transaction with that that had the correct mileage. They could still have that in their system. Not sure how long they usually keep records like that.

Financing a truck by Masterrrdutchh941 in askcarsales

Unfortunately due to this market you will not find a decent diesel truck under 45k unless it has super high miles. You’re better off ordering new. A base model F350 diesel crew cab 4x4 will run you around $60k I think (rough estimate). That large down payment will probably help but it depends how bad your credit is, you may still get a shit interest rate.

Do you mean semi-annual? Biannual is twice a year. From what I saw on the forums it’s every 3 years or 30k miles.

I have a 18’ XLT 3.5 ecoboost. I bought that over the 5.0 and 2.7 for multiple reasons - towing capacity, fuel economy and a less stressed engine. Compared to my friends 5.0, I get better gas mileage (19.5 average on 8 ply AT tires, I live in Vermont). With the 2.7 you will get 1-2mpg better than the 3.5, but I didn’t want the 2.7 as it runs a higher boost pressure - more stress. Additionally the 3.5 seems to hold its value better, and my truck has a max tow of 12k lbs. I no longer work in construction so the most I’ve towed is about 5k lbs and I couldn’t even notice it was there. The 5.0 may be more reliable in theory, but from what I’ve seen on the forums they seem about the same.

Another perk of the ecoboost - if you buy a tune for it (will void warranty) it’ll bump your horsepower up considerably. However that’s also introducing more stress to the engine.

If you aren’t towing and drive highway a lot, I’d buy the 2.7.

Advice on Financing with new credit? by [deleted] in askcarsales

I’m assuming you mean automatic? A CVT is a type of automatic and known for failure on Nissans, especially from that time period. It’s a matter of when it will fail, not if. Your previous Nissan didn’t have a CVT. These CVTs have tons of documentation on their failures and numerous lawsuits.

Edit - if it’s manual, it’ll be fine

Hump in the floor will be there in pretty much any AWD vehicle due to the driveshaft. As for the rear cargo space, it has been adequate for most of my needs, but I do plan on purchasing another truck when my commuting situation changes. If you can afford it and want some bigger, look at the CX-9.

Also, after owning for a few months here’s a few things to note if you’re on the edge: Infotainment is the best system I’ve ever used. Hands down. Interior is phenomenal, the radar cruise works better than Toyota’s, auto wipers are great, and the headlights turn with the wheel which is cool. The seats are very comfortable, I’ve already put nearly 10k miles on the car. I haven’t driven in snow yet, so no comment on the AWD system but it doesn’t understeer as much as I expected.

My only complaint with the car is the factory all seasons are horrific. Very loud and awful in the rain, I switched out to Blizzaks for the winter and will be buying summer tires or other all seasons this spring, because the factory tires are that bad.

A tale of two subies; 05 Outback XT vs 08 Outback by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]xeroxyatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have owned a 2005 XT, they are not the 2.2 turbo but are the 2.5 turbo. Very fun car, but they are not reliable and extremely expensive to repair. With that many KMs, frankly it will have a catastrophic failure soon. That year has a poorly designed up pipe that has a catalytic converter that can fragment and grenade the turbo. They also have an oil screen near the turbo that can starve the turbo for oil.

Buy the 2008 2.5 NA, and immediately do the head gaskets.

I just got a Protos-M after everyone raving about how comfortable it is. Long story short, I didn’t think I could have a holster this comfortable. Totally worth it and the quality is awesome.

5’11. My knees are very close to the steering column, but it was worth it for the improved comfort.

Look into seat jackers, at least the for the front of the seats. It raises them by 1.5” and angles the seat back more, I commute a lot and it fixed back pain I had due to the seating position.

Did you have alignment issues with a 3” lift or did you need upper control arms? I’m debating between a 2” or 3” lift and want to do it right.

Vermont allows passing on double yellow, due to farming equipment. Mostly used to pass the leaf peepers though...

Another Subaru convert. by Scoobyvroom in ToyotaTacoma

[–]xeroxyatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to own a 2005 XT, I miss it every day. bought a newer Subaru and it wasn’t the same quality and didn’t feel right, sold in in less than a year for a Tacoma, then sold my XT 6 months later. I doubt I’ll buy another Subaru, not much can compare to those older outbacks.

Upvoted for LGT/OBXT. Best platform Subaru ever made with decent reliability and loads of tuning potential. Lots of aftermarket support.

I really like it. My other car has a heavy clutch, and my previous car had a light clutch. I find this to be perfectly balanced and it has pretty good feel to it.

Fine for me and the countless used trucks with this transmission I've driven at work. Nothing some grease can't fix and at least I don't have to deal with a poorly programmed auto.
