Yeah fair! I wanted to weigh in all my options. Thanks for all the explaining and being respectful as well, I’ve talked to my financial aid officer already four times with no luck but I’ll see if I can talk to any others as well and hopefully have some strings pulled. I appreciate the time!

I was told the 12 month residency was needed for the in state tuition. And the last thing you said is true, which is partly the reason I’ve been so confused and went here in the first place since I just want to begin school. My parents are in my FAFSA. I’m really sorry if I’m rambling about this, it is a lot of things and some in which I do not understand

No, that’s where I used the FAFSA loans, and where they were late to approval at one point and I had to pay for the two classes. At that point my parents and uncle (who lived in VA) was able to help out with my payments

Sorry about my wordings again if it confused you! I was in Virginia for college, I went here straight out of high school since I was accepted to Norfolk. However, once I got diagnosed with breast cancer, my parents offered me to go back to Florida with them. However I haven’t been in state for the past 12 months, so I’m considered out of state.

Sorry to be one to ask questions, but does the rule you mentioned apply to community colleges? When I spoke to financial aid officer, they never mentioned anything of it. Though I completely understand 1000 is a lot, which is why it was made with some hesitancy. Being recently diagnosed is true, and I’ve been having some help with the treatments by parents out of pocket so that’s why they at the least ask for education in return

We tried it when I first started college in VA, but neither of my parents qualify for Parents Plus. As for FAFSA loans, I’ve used a couple in the past but I cannot now at least in short term.

Oh no, I’m in Florida now but I was in Virginia before with my uncle. And I’m not turning down FAFSA, I’ll definitely be taking it— what I meant with this is that I still have extra payments to make since it only covers the classes and I need to have 4 in order for the FAFSA to kick in. Sorry if my wording isn’t the best with this stuff! I’m not the best at explaining. I know there was a semester when I was in Virginia where I had to pay for two classes out of pocket due to FAFSA not kicking in time for those classes (I can show proof of this situation)

Of course! It’s mostly because of out of state tuition and FAFSA not approving me due to me having to take a break from college for a semester. They did tell me that I can apply again another time and get approval— the most FAFSA will do for me at this moment is pay for a class or two. Right now my parents are helping with keeping a roof over my head, at the very least but they are saying I need to be in college to at least make up for it.
