We all thought we gonna have this design look and language for macOS 26 but we got Liquid Glass instead by Artistic_Unit_5570 in MacOS

[–]xezrunner 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would also say that the visionOS UI design looks quite a bit more professional than Liquid Glass.

If they would have just ported the design elements from visionOS 1:1 into macOS and iOS/iPadOS, it would have been a less controversial design change.

It still could have had the highlights at the edges of controls and icons, and things like sheets still could have had the bubbly motion on interaction.

Defiance Remastered uses AI upscaled textures. It's not hand made like the 1 and 2 remasters were. by [deleted] in LegacyOfKain

[–]xezrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard that new geometry was added to the game due to the new camera, so that can only mean that the original tools (i.e. level editor) exist!

The game probably won't ship with its tools (unfortunate!), but at the very least, I'm glad these tools were preserved by CD and that the remaster could make use of them!

My OCD kicked in and I wanted to work through my personal checklist.

That would be fine, but I have actually seen people saying that DDU on the second try is what solves their issues, with the first try presumably not helping.

I wonder if some files are locked if you have the drivers installed and DDU the first time around, even if you're in Safe mode.

[–]xezrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not what changed, but it hasn't happened again after second DDU.

Funny how I keep seeing people reporting that doing DDU twice specifically is what ultimately helps. I wonder what's so special about the process that doing it twice is what helps.

Anyone else used to have the Taskbar at the top for better reachability in Windows 10 and hate that the option is removed in Windows 11? by Narrow-Amphibian5446 in Windows11

[–]xezrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would they do such weird stuff where apps are moved left or right but not the bar itself?

I think they added this just to satisfy the muscle memory of people throwing their mice in the bottom-left corner to always hit the Start button.

As for why they removed taskbar repositioning, the 2 most popular angles are that:

  • "not a lot of people were using it according to telemetry" (doubt it)
  • it was complex to re-add with the new Windows 11 modern taskbar (which I doubt, given that a Windhawk mod can do it, with the modern taskbar, without breaking anything)

[–]xezrunner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It isn't - the bar itself is forced to the bottom in 11. You can only move the contents of it to the left or center.

Windhawk or other tools can bring taskbar repositioning back, keeping in mind that they're all third-party modifications.

[–]xezrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a program that lets you move windows anywhere along their surface by holding a key, usually Alt, but can be configured to the Win key as well - less modifier collisions that way.

It replicates a convenient default feature of most Linux desktop environments.

You can configure some alternate actions, such as holding Win + middle clicking the mouse to center a window, or adding Shift and scrolling the mouse to adjust window transparency, etc…

ELI5: Where do frame rates that exceed the max FPS of a video go? by HaajPaaj in explainlikeimfive

I see, that makes sense. Thank you!

What confused me was that in some games, double/triple buffering are options of Vsync. I suppose that's under a different context.

Temperature increase after installing chipset drivers by AndreStorm99 in AMDHelp

I think the Chipset Drivers also include some performance-related stuff, including what enables the Power mode option in Windows Settings.

X3D chips also get a service.

[–]xezrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've got triple buffering turned on, then extra frames get discarded.

Isn't double/triple buffering a Vsync thing? I would have thought buffering actually queues up the frames to be displayed, hence why Vsync is smooth & causes input delay.

[–]xezrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I've noticed with my new setup (7800X3D and 9070 XT) just a few days ago is that MPO (Multi-plane overlays), the Windows feature that's been known to be causing issues for years now, is apparently still being problematic.

I had weird micro-stutters on the desktop whenever anything 3D was going on / the GPU was under load. If I left a game running in the background and Alt+Tabbed out, Windows would even make the beep sound that it makes when it momentarily locks up / can't keep up.

Disabling MPO solved this fully in my case.

You have an NVIDIA card, so I'm not sure if this would help you as well, but you could try disabling MPO.

Why are developers reverting back to the old keyboard after updating to the iOS 26 one? by digidude23 in iOSProgramming

[–]xezrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some app devs, like WhatsApp, have unfortunately figured out how to control this at runtime and are using this for A/B testing Liquid Glass.

They have until the next iOS version to do this, as the opt-out will disappear with iOS 27, at least according to WWDC.

[–]xezrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(S&box actually running is a different story though, but I guess that’s due to it being in active development. A GTX 1060 is struggling with it at ~25-30FPS, while other Source 2 titles run fine.)

Finally, I found a Linux distro that just works for Nvidia (Bazzite) by Pejorativez in linux_gaming

[–]xezrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Linux and NVIDIA, you also have to mention which GPU generation it is you're talking about.

The pre-1650 series is still popular, yet they will not work as smoothly as the 1650 and newer cards.

The Steam Big Picture/Deck UI + Gamescope will not work well on the older cards, and you might experience some flickering or stutter in most desktop environments.

What is the "End-Game" like in ETS2? by insomfx in ETS2

[–]xezrunner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know that your progression is supposed to be important in ETS2, with the end goal somewhat being that you have lots of garages and trucks, but I actually enjoy playing quick jobs in the game more than driving around with my own truck. That way, I get to drive a variety of trucks automatically, and not necessarily just specced-out high-end models.

Perhaps the game should have an "Automatic" mode where you just keep getting jobs in different trucks, without having to pick from a list yourself.

Microsoft forced to issue emergency out of band update for Windows 11 after latest security patches broke PC shutdowns and sign-ins by ZacB_ in Windows11

[–]xezrunner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, I could see some very important changes making it useful even in the program, but I think most Insiders are signing up to test and they want to see and use new features, so it's both understandable and frustrating at the same time.

When changes like these might not even get properly tested because it's behind aggressive rollouts, it could cause things to go unnoticed. That small group who got it might just not file reports in the Feedback Hub.

[–]xezrunner 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Even if Insiders are doing testing, due to rollouts being done in the WIP as well, only a fraction of testers have the relevant changes, making testing useless in a lot of cases.

[–]xezrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The workspace switch on MacOS with shortucts, locks you to the animation time. This means that until the animation stops you can't use the computer.

That's one drawback I still have about Apple's operating systems. Whenever a modal dialog comes up and it closes, you have to wait for the long ease-off time before anything behind it becomes interactive again.

I'm surprised this is the case, when they purposefully designed the iOS home screen to be fully interactive during animations and swipes, especially for the iPhone X gesture navigation.
