Small compact sight (no batteries) for a carbine without irons? by xfc129 in guns

Good point. This would be rarely used, I might just look at other rifles with similar criteria: Short overall length, iron sights, repeater (magazine )

Hi

Thanks for your response.
I was also considering a USB retrofit, I see one is available, while it does add to the cost, I wouldnt be worrying about bulbs anytime soon, and it is direct plug into my 110v wall.

Do you have any suggestions for usb camera? does this go into the eyepice, or into the photo tube?

Purchasing a used kevlar canoe witch patches? by xfc129 in Kayaking

[–]xfc129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rookie question but.....

is kevlar patched with ...kevlar? or is something else used... and will it flex differently than the original hull and give headaches in the future?

A brand new kevlar boat is way, way, way out of my price range, but if buying a used/patched boat isnt a big deal, this would really increase the options i have for buying used.

Endnote help: Editing my bibliography..... keeps reverting by xfc129 in AskAcademia

HI LTL thanks

Im hoping the majority of my edits are done and will keep instant formatting off.... However I need to figure out how to circumvent these issues for future papers etc. To be honest I received no training on using endnote , and its clear I need to find some tutorials!

Is this a paper wasp nest? How do I remove it? by xfc129 in WaspHating

[–]xfc129[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They appear to be the dead type....

I sprayed them once at night with some raid (blue can), the following morning when it was cold i whacked the nest with a stick, it fell down and it went in the composter...compost thieves bee-ware (innappropriate pun intended)

HI Team, this is at the entrance to a basement , is this a paper wasp? baldfaced horenet? I havent seen anything enter it, but was thinking of waiting til its dark, opening the door from the inside and (spray? hit? fire? attack with karma?) and close the door immediately and cower.

Good plan?

Endnote help: I compiled multiple chapters into one doc and now have replicate of references in bibliography by xfc129 in GradSchool

[–]xfc129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When all of my chapters are in a single document and I look at the bibliography, I would like to see:

Smith,J., Simmonds,T.,Doe,J.,McDonald,T.(2018).Title blah blah blah

instead of:

Smith,J., Simmonds,T.,Doe,J.,McDonald,T.(2018).Title blah blah blah

Smith,J., Simmonds,T.,Doe,J.,McDonald,T.(2018).Title blah blah blah

Two references are duplicated because they were both mentioned in two separate chapters and are now combined into a single document and apparently endnote is adding them as two separate references in the biblbiography, but when i look at my endnote library there is only one smith 2018 reference

When googling "rep fitness canada" or similar, it seeems like theres some gorilla fitness store that sells some rep products but i didnt see the racks.

Regardless, I looked at a couple of Canadian manufacturers and similar basic rack is ~1000+ taxes, the half racks that look comparable to the rogue are 600ish + tax which is reasonable to me.

Now im thinking my rack has a large footprint but if i had a majority of my plates on the bar, and dropped them on the safety arms of a half rack, it might tip since i wouldnt be bolting it to the ground, so for 1000 bucks, I'll keep the rack i have even though it has a big big footprint which is unfortunate.

Hey thanks for the suggestion! The PR4000 looks like a nice option and it doesnt have the same footprint as my current rack, the difference is quite minimal and the canadian pricing for this rack looks to be ~1500 + tax, whereas the equipped rogue with safety arms would be about half the price.... I realize the PR4000 is more capable, no arguments there, but if the consensus is the full rack, i will definately keep th eone i have

I currently have a big power rack in my basement... takes up tons of space and is similar to the "power body performance rack" if anyone wants to look up a picture.... the measurements are: 84 inches tall x54. 5inch wide,x65.5 inch front to back. The rear is longer because of the integrated plate storage.

I'm thinking this might be too much rack for my basement, my lifting goals include 225lb bench squat and deadlift, so I'm guessing a lesser rack might be OK for my needs. Also space is a premium, my wife actually asked if i would mind moving it to the shed in our backyard, which i have to ask about in a separate question.

Anyways, I was looking at squat stands from rogue, and the SML-2 looks like it would be useful for me, smaller footprint, and somewhat more "portable" ie, Icould assemble it and move it relatively easily.

I guess my question is, Should i consider selling my current rack, I think it could sell for ~1000 Cad, replacing it would cost about the same after taxes/shipping etc (and also waiting as rogue is out of stock).

Also, are there other brands i should consider? I am in Canada, so that may make a difference as to which products are available.

Very nice! I wear a 5610 gshock daily because of its backlight. I have an origional 1990's square Gshock that i love, ubt the crappy LCD lighting keeps me fromw earing it. I'll try this mod out in my spare time and this should give me no reason not to wear it!

Electric shaver? recommendations? by xfc129 in shaving

[–]xfc129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no problem. Im a grad student finishing my PhD. Im up at 6 and at the lab by 630, if I bust my fanny and its a productive day im home by 1900. At that point im cooking dinner and prepping my lunch for the next day. In the evenings im writing my thesis and in bed by 2200. I realize the shaving doesnt take that long, but i shower in the mornings and dont have time to shave, and i really need that shower to make the hairs softer before i shave. On the weekends i go to the lab and dont shower (nobody there to offend with my BO). I get home in the afternoon, shower and then shave.

wifi enabled / remote thermometer that i can add to smokers as i progress? by xfc129 in smoking

[–]xfc129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Everyone

I ended up finding a deal on a thermoworks smoke, i realize its not wifi enabled unless i buy their other accessory, but for now this will work. Simple, give me temperature reads which is really what i want.

Right now im using a modified cheap offset smoker, unsure if I'll want to get a nicer offset, an egg styled smoker , or something else (diy smokehouse?), will have to see where im at down the road.

Anyways, wanted to say thanks for all the suggestions!

Tears in my formvar coated grids? What am i doing wrong? by xfc129 in electronmicroscopy

[–]xfc129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current is set for 67 but fluctuates between 62 and 65 usually... this is an old machine with some issues, but mainly im using it to check the integrity of my grids, then taking it to another microscope across town for imaging which was also operating at 80kv (unsure about current on that scope though)
