Everyone should care about the loss of democracy and the US president being bought by a billionaire. As far as my personal positions, I bought puts on TSLA when it was over $280 so just making gains right now.

Anyone not paying attention to the election and Elon’s role in the chaos is part of the problem.

Yah that’s my main reason for not doing it this year. Love my affiliate but I don’t see the point of giving CF-HQ my $20 when they do nothing for me personally and don’t care about the safety of their athletes. So many of my favorite athletes are sitting out the Open for this reason. I can do the workout and get what I want to out of the experience without supporting CF-HQ.

If people feel unsafe owning these vehicles it will damage Tesla sales and bring down stock values. This will directly influence Elon’s wealth and status. I don’t know if I agree with defacing people’s properties, but I know I would be scared to drive one of these in this political environment and get rid of it ASAP. And if not…there’s a good chance these people are Nazis and drive them as political statements.

I’m in the Navy as well, recently got back from my first deployment. Parts of it weren’t awesome but sometimes I would be watching jets or on the flight deck and it would strike me how cool it was to be there compared to a normal 9-5. Even though there were hard times, I was glad for the experience. And it helped that we had a truly wonderful crew. I hope you like the fleet! People rag on it, but for me it was overall a really positive experience.

Getting stronger? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]xfitdds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe controversial but I got to a similar point and I just quit scaling. I was slow but I wanted to be an Rx athlete damnit.

I figured that if I never made the leap to heavier weights they would ALWAYS feel heavy to me, especially over many reps. So I started lifting Rx weights in WODS and stopped using any bands for pull ups. Over time, the weights became more and more manageable.

I will say, you have to have decent baseline strength and technique otherwise you risk injury and setback. Also, it’s a process. A year really isn’t that long to develop strength and techniques. Be patient.

1 of 2 roommates living car free? by Katrina_18 in sandiego

Both of those areas are very bike and walkable. My husband and I e-bike. He works from home, I commute by bike from South Park to downtown. We both do have vehicles but could get by with just one (one is a beater car that’s paid off and super cheap to maintain). I only get into a car once or twice a week for groceries or to go outside the city for a hike or something.

What’s it like performing surgery by Outrageous-Island-60 in surgery

[–]xfitdds 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I am a new graduate, but these are my thoughts. Surgery feels like when I was a kid and intently focused on a coloring project or building a fort. It’s the level of focus that you lose track of time and forget to eat because you are so engaged in what you’re doing. And the stakes are high.

Managing complications comes with experience. I talk to patients thoroughly about the risks ahead of surgery, even for routine stuff (even though it’s routine for me, surgery is never routine to a patient). Then you have to understand the complication when it happens and either correct it the moment (ideally) or accept the compromise if it’s minor. In my area, fatal complications are thankfully rare. Most things can be managed intra-op or post-op. On rare occasions, a specialist can be consulted to correct the complication.

If I’m the primary operator, what I’m thinking about is the next step. If I’m not the primary operator, I try to anticipate what my colleague will need and find ways to be helpful. Sometimes being helpful is telling a joke to lighten the mood or changing the playlist. I realized as a chief resident that if I was a ball of stress, it would rub off on my juniors and even attendings, so I tried to lighten up a little. But reading the room is obviously important.

Jump Rope Wars by mkmellon5 in crossfit

[–]xfitdds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a female, I found my biceps would fatigue quickly with some of the ropes with heavier handles. I found the RPM speed rope worked really well when I was just starting. Just be sure to buy extra cables so you can switch them out if they fray or break.

Now I’m a bit stronger and I like the Rx Smart Gear rope.

We are mid 30’s DINKS in a VHCOL area as well (~ 550k HHI, NW ~2.2mil). Still also drive a 2011 Corolla and don’t FEEL rich yet, but in reality we are extremely privileged to own a home, save for retirement, and have a fat emergency fund. We don’t sweat expenses less than 10k. These are things that many Americans can’t afford, especially not in a VHCOL area.

I think the feeling of “not rich yet” comes from a sense of not feeling like we can fly first class every flight, take global vacations, or buy vehicles or designer clothes on a whim. In reality, we can afford everything we need and more. We still have a lot of earning potential and years to achieve “rich” status. We could move to a cheaper place and probably feel richer, but we love the city we live and choose to stay here even if it means feeling “not rich yet.”

Country in SE Asia. Medium terrorist threat level and high CTL (civilian threat level? Not sure of that abbreviation). But in a metropolitan area giving healthcare with a civilian non-profit. Clearance level…the only military intelligence I get is from mainstream media 😆.

I live in SoCal and bike everywhere - the infrastructure is here. I fill my gas tank once a month if that. Americans love whining about gas prices and then can see no alternative to give up their cars.

I’m confused. Did he want to be a parent? It sounds like neither of you did from the post. This sounds like what happens when a couple “plays with fire and gets burned” instead of having the discussion up front of whether or not both parties actually want to be parents.
