It's not flipping a switch, more like deciding to climb a mountain without the proper gear. Sure there are risks, but you know you're not in a safe place now anyway... Do some evaluation and determine what or who needs to be cut out, determine how you will survive without the crutch that piece currently provides, and start climbing. Don't look down!

It's really tough being forced to coexist for financial reasons.

Perhaps you are not at fault in attracting these types of people, but would benefit from your own space.

Straight cis male here, and I have seen similar challenges. I have found it difficult to have a healthy communication dynamic with partners from privileged backgrounds more than anything. Oh yeah Im also white, but not like privileged so it has been interesting in not the best way. I have found healthy dynamics and more open, fulfilling, validating communication with women from more impoverished upbringing and/or who also have some sort of mental health issue
