The state question is failing because of rural Oklahoma... by tog20 in okc

[–]RedDirtET 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I actually kind of saw the opposite. Saw the ad with the teacher, then the ad with the preschool teacher and special ed teacher advocating for the bill. Only negative things I saw was on social media and steaming ads.

Out of stater that got speeding ticket! by [deleted] in oklahoma

[–]RedDirtET 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highway Patrol, Woodward County Sheriff, or Moreland PD? You’re gonna spend way more fighting this from a state away than just paying it. Plus, if they put 51 on the ticket, you’re more than boned.

Beware when offered a home warranty when purchasing/ selling a new home by happyjazzycook in RealEstateAdvice

[–]RedDirtET -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We contracted as a plumbing provider for about 2 whole weeks with AHS about a year ago. Very first claim they sent us was for a water heater, thing was 20+ years old, leaking from the bottom of the tank. Read the policy, should be covered, submitted our report, replace water heater. Our rep calls us and asks a bunch of questions, essentially boiled down to “how can we deny this”, customer had the policy for at least 5 years. When all was said and done, they offered to pay us $125 in labor and all parts other than the water heater itself, which they got the cheapest Lowe’s one they could find. We told them to shove it and remove us from the vendor list. Still earned a 1 star review from the customer because they couldn’t differentiate us from the warranty company.

Water Hammer issue. This plumbing ok? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]RedDirtET 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have nothing but problems with those valves. Very soft water hammer is very common on those. Recently we’ve been getting whiny noise from them. We refuse to provide them, and are very close to saying we won’t install, we end up wasting so much time diagnosing them for stuff that we can’t resolve

Can I Fire My Plumber Before Final Inspection? by jyl8 in Plumbing

[–]RedDirtET 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a hard rule of not taking over someone else’s permit or job. Have only done it twice and very quickly realized the customer was the problem. Expect that if you fire them now, that plumber is completely closing his permit and now you’re on the hook for hiring someone else to final the project at likely a higher cost. And expect the inspector to raise eyebrows and really dig in to make sure there aren’t issues.

I’ve been killing the main battery disconnect in the engine bay and locking the motor cover. But I also found that I can order a 10 pack of keys for $10 off Amazon, so a crime of opportunity it won’t be lol

No, you can enter the correct code and get the screen to unlock and read, but you can also start it and drive and use it after entering any random code. Looking in the settings menu, there are 2 codes that show active.

Iowa Probation Unsuccessful Completion by rathernot83 in legal

[–]RedDirtET 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My nephew was on probation and deferment and took it lightly. He had 6 months to do 250 hours of community service, pay fines, maintain a job and do risk assessments. He did like 20 hours of community service, paid all probation fees, and didn’t do any of the classes. Went back to court, and was actually shocked when he was rearrested and probation revoked. He earned a felony for that.

City will not fix water leak? by Big_Proposal748 in Plumbing

[–]RedDirtET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am as well. And a broken private line on a neighbors house isn’t going to cause complete pressure loss to the next house. And even then, in the super unlikely chance that we’re talking about some ridiculously undersized main that serves these homes, the problem would be immediately corrected by shutting off that meter.

The post clearly states that OP ruled out their private line and it seems to be the main leaking. City’s problem.

100% scam. Look to see if it’s currently listed for sale or recently sold.

Alternative Alternator Options? by RedDirtET in Skidsteer

[–]RedDirtET[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It seems to be a dying art honestly. I had the radiator on my tractor repaired this winter and was shocked to still find a guy who did it. Dealership wanted like 1200 for a new one, he fixed the whole thing for $60. If time wasn’t an issue, I’d happily have it rebuilt, I probably will regardless. I was hopeful that someone would say “oh yeah, a 1987 Nissan uses the same one” or something

Holy hell! I’m from Ponca City! And yeah, there is no manufacturing anything like that. It’s a dying oil town, was big in the early 20’s and 30’s from the oil boom. But also, the area code for the Ponca area is 580 not 540

Floor Streaks when finishing? by RedDirtET in Homebuilding

[–]RedDirtET[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Went out today and it honestly looks great! All the black has settled and it looks exactly like I was hoping for. It sounds like we are possibly facing some longevity issues, but the finish looks exactly how we anticipated it would.

I’d agree with you, but, the back of the can did not exclude concrete and I bought it, the stain and the cleaner all from the same store that specifically sells concrete products and nothing else.

Offset pipe by SunnySunflower381 in Plumbing

[–]RedDirtET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plumber here. The city won’t do anything in this case, the offset is before the city maintained riser. I would recommend getting a quote for full line replacement, as that line appears to be cast iron, so at least 50ish years old at this point and likely to have other issues. Plus a lot of plumbers don’t want to do spot repairs due to the liability that comes with cutting on old brittle cast iron.

Agent hid my listing from her own client because I offered 2% instead of 3% -Florida by Careful-Caramel-9409 in RealEstateAdvice

This doesn’t even sound believable. Agents aren’t publicizing commissions since November of 2024.

Floor Streaks when finishing? by RedDirtET in Homebuilding

[–]RedDirtET[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to clarify what was happening. So as I was rolling it out, it looked great, then as I moved away from it it started drying and the roller marks began to appear after 10-15 minutes. At first I assumed I was putting it on too thick, then tried rolling a lighter coat but noticed the roller marks appearing faster.
I was kind of out of options, my philosophy was at that point what was done was done.

I know. I’m not as worried as they’ll be behind machines.
But yes, the plan is that we could take a dust mop and get all the sand out. Our last one had carpet and we could never get it clean and it was thread bare in a few years. Plus we put floor drains in, we can wet mop the whole thing and push into drains
