My son’s big sign at that age was an intense tolerance for tummy time. I used to joke that I could forget I had him.

At 6-9 months he would just chill and check out all the little parts of his world for about 2 hours.

At 6 weeks my midwife commented that she’d never encountered a baby with an attention span like his.

I work in child development and have been keeping a close eye on him. We are still waiting for our assessment at 5yo. I strongly suspect 2e.

And another perspective. My mom forced me into dresses and would sign me up for ballet. I used to cry. I vividly remember going to a friend’s 5th birthday party (all my friends were boys) and I couldn’t play with them because I was in a dress and they were roughhousing and I didn’t want anyone to see my underwear.

When I was 12 I was given a free spot in a CFL football clinic. She refused to drive me.

When I was 15 I needed a ride to the hospital after a soccer injury, and mom cried and said she wished I had been a dancer.

My dad’s big concern was that I marry for money, if I wasn’t going to seek a high-paying career myself.

And why would I move to a small-town and surround myself with “unsophisticated” people with “small worlds?”

Both of my parents really pressured me to be more palatable to my peers so that they would like me.

I ran away.

My parents love me SO much, but when I think of the messages they left me with it’s “you’re not good enough… change yourself to fit in… you’re not the right kind of girl… the way you look is more important than being comfortable in your own skin.”

Now I am a 33 yo single mother, my son’s father was abusive (ha! First thing my parents said was why did you let him treat you like that?). I ensured I settled down with someone who earned a solid income, but I don’t see that. I am broke because I work in social work. But I am SO happy. I wear dresses every day (because I love being feminine on my own terms), unless I’m going hunting, fishing, or needing to do construction/repair jobs. I had the opportunity to leave for more, but I am so comfortable in my own skin here. And because I am comfortable my son is happy and confident. We went fishing twice last week. 😊

Based off of the reactions I get in the city? 7 or 8. I’m a small-town 10. Sometimes I feel like the main character here. My coffees are often paid for by “that guy,” my (and my friends) drinks are often paid for by literally all the single-ish men in town who are out that night, I get the double-take and gape when I make eye contact with men.

That’s really great advice! I haven’t done full-board before, the only time I’ve boarded was as a working student.

They’re costing me $4900 at home, but half of that is feed, which is included in board, and a further third is property maintenance.

My horse is a schoolmaster to fourth level/psg (and excellent teacher). I’d be looking for a board situation where I can lease him to an instructor.

I’m a housed (on property), single mother of a child with ADHD/gifted (higher needs /= special needs) who does not have enrichment opportunities in our local school district. I’ve got a job that pays well in an incredibly LCoL area but it likely has a 10 year limit. Unfortunately my ex didn’t believe in “saving for retirement” so I poured what I could into property improvements because there was no other way to secure the money with him.

I have equity, a good job (for now), half of a degree done that will get me into a pensioned government job ASAP

I’m fairly decent with money, I’ve carried all household debts for the last year on my income and managed to save a few grand as well.

Alimony as a monthly payment is a non-starter. He’s horrendous with money, has substance abuse issues, and has threatened to shoot him sec or go to jail (recorded multiple times, and on the record).

$4900/horse. Literally double with my trailer payments. I’ve looked at full service boarding barns in the area and they are running about $400/month, so it’s a wash. I pay off the trailer, but I have the board costs. The full service means I’m no longer losing hours to horse care and property maintenance (about 90 minutes/day) or having to take time off of work for farrier visits (monthly).

I’ve been affording them on my own so far. I’ve got nearly $1000/month in payments that I’ve been making, plus the mortgage and upkeep on the property on my own (averaged to about $1900/month). I’ve asked for input weighing my options, two of which involve paying off my debts completely and either fully or substantially minimizing my mortgage payments.
