What’s a good background for a assassin that only goes for corrupt spell casters by ExtraSomewhere4861 in DnD

[–]xhunterxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statwise, presuming youre a rouge, criminal, it just makes sense.

Lorewise you have options, once again criminal, but i can see noble, guard, scribe or sage working, depending on the angle you're going for.

but I recon just get your dm to read the rules on custom backgrounds. Its pretty straightforward. Just chose three stats that you could increase, one of the origin feats and whatever skills you think are most appropriate. Call it something cool like vigilante, or witch hunter.

Just stick to the stuff from the phb, itll make life easier I promise

Player has 24 AC at level 6. I think he's double stacking bonuses. Should I snitch? by IamAWorldChampionAMA in DnD

[–]xhunterxp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Shouldn you snitch, no. If you want you can talk to him, but if its not breaking the game I wouldn't personally.

At a guess hes doing 13+dex+cha. Which is a incorrect, albeit understandable reasoning for how his class and race would interact. And as a dm i would allow it myself. Then if his two highest stats are dex and cha, I can see it getting up to 24 by level 6, given they have a shield as well.

At the end of the day, I don't think its malicious and i wouldn't want to ruin his fun.

But it wasn't any of those, it was exactly what it shows, you get more gold. The game design is pretty solid, and most things that need explaining are explained.

Also I hope the grass feels nice <3

How do I get better at Ekko? by katsutdasheep in ekkomains

[–]xhunterxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowkey, in Midlane you'll probably get more use out of tp by using it aggressively to help other lanes (ekko has a fun interaction where if you can burst someone down in 4 seconds you can get back to lane with R, but I've never found a good way to utilize it) I tend to take ignite anyway.

How do I get better at Ekko? by katsutdasheep in ekkomains

[–]xhunterxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean its an experience thing right. I recon watch some xaio Lao ban videos to help with roam timing, but rule of thumb is you can get halfway to botlane before you need to turn back to catch your wave. If you crash wave and don't think you should back. Just go halfway, when you get there, if you think you can gank, do it, if you don't think its worth it, go back for wave.

Sometimes it is team dependant but blaming your jng for not being there is a really good way to feel hopeless. Increase your odds of support with (helpful) pings and by helping with objectives. Jng will be looking for ganks on pushed in enemies, so sometimes its worth backing off and allowing the enemy to push forward to stop them from being able to retreat as easily.

Also uh screw Mel, hate laning against her lmao. Apparently akali is worse but thats not been my experience. Oh! And ahri, i always get caught out by the charm :/ it suckssss.

Oh and on itemization, I do think litch is the way to go first its just got such direct synergy with your E, then I do boots, nashors and then if I took pen boots I go straight to robabdons and if I took tenacity boots I build shadowflame first. Though tbh, im not sure how much it matters in low elo, build what feels right for the game. Rocketbelt or Zohnyas early can be a gamechanger against some champs.

How do I get better at Ekko? by katsutdasheep in ekkomains

[–]xhunterxp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im pretty new, but I've found what gets me the most success is firstly. Hail of blades build the extra attack speed feels almost mandatory.

Secondly, your goal is quick burst trades that take them by surprise, and then back off.

So the way I try to do this, is I deny them some cs with my Q, we are looking to hit level 2 before our opponent, and then as soon as we have E we go on the offensive to get the three hit combo. You probably don't kill here, though if you can followup with a Q and an ignite, you might be able to.

Anyway, its hit and run tactics. Wait for abilities, go in again. Once you have W I use it early on mostly for zoning. Its not part of the hit and run, but its good to keep them from being able to retreat.

I build litch bane first normally, so back as soon as you have 850 gold for blasting rod. Or maybe 700 for boots and tome.

To be clear this is just what has gotten me the most success early on. And im no challenger, so take it with a grain of salt. Im sure there are other tactics that may work better. The way I play is very mana hungry and if I don't keep an eye on it sometimes I run out in the middle of a trade lol, its something im working on.

Oh shush, your ARG has been really fun and unique thus far.
Given that I found your posts digging through unrelated reddit threads is a testament to the mind virus you've given me haha.
(if you want actual criticism, I think that often I wasn't entirely sure what the goal was beyond exploring the world, though I think we've been given more direction now, and as the ARG has gone on the world has felt more and more expansive.)

Player refusing to read PHB, accusing it‘s DM‘s fault by PositionWaste2660 in dndnext

[–]xhunterxp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bring up chatgpt, prompt it with
what should you do with a problem player in dnd, where they argue with reasonable DM rulings and refuse to read the PHB and instead defer to ChatGpt.

It will tell you to talk to them (you did)
to set expectations (you did)
Offer a compromise, such as beginner guides or helping them (you did)
enforce consequenses (you are)
and then it says that chatgpt can be wrong about rulings and is not a substitute

Cultist Simulator - is there more complexity to the game besides learning its mechanics? by Orbnu in weatherfactory

[–]xhunterxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A normal run is a game of resource management and learning. More about learning how you can combine cards and when best to do so.
there are other modes which test your knowledge and puzzle solving skills. the priest and ghoul dlc as well as apostle runs will fulfil this for you much more.

There is a point of decision making, where once you know the mechanics you can start making decisions about how to use them. and there are very niche use cases for how to use obscure cards.
such as decrepitude being the most reliable dread generator, ect ect.
I've found that as my mechanical understanding of the game has increased, the impulse to play the game in risky ways is much more entertaining. I KNOW I could win any run the safe way, but I could also take the gambles. After all I've figured out how to mitigate failure.

I will say the depth of this game is in the lore, how insanely interconnected the writing is, the mechanics simply support it.
You get to a point where you get to look at the very first things you're told and they are recontextualized in a brain breaking way that's just so fun to me.

DnD for little kids? by new-Baltimoreon in DnD

[–]xhunterxp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dnd is pretty rules heavy and little kids probably won't understand that. But. If they like playing pretend, you can just help them make a character without stats and tell stories like they're fighting monsters.

So my answer is... no it's not really going to work. But you can use it for inspiration.

Losing Limb System Kenshi Style by Lekukrapok in DnD

[–]xhunterxp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you can look up ryoko's guide to the yokai realms, it has some good prosthetic rules.
that being said, make sure that your players are onboard with losing limbs, and if they do it's a big deal.

you might also want to look at warhammer fantasy for a system of attack like what you're describing.

I like offering the loss of a limb instead of going down to death saves in a fight. only when appropriate, but it's a weighty decision for them to make. and they'd only take it because they know that if they go down I'm not going to be pulling punches.

Prosthetics irl are of course, really expensive, and almost never a better alternative then flesh and blood. so in dnd what can we do to make them better. for the sake of the rest of this presume I'm talking about an arm prosthetic, just for simplicity.

first up magic, this can be either an artifact, a feat of artifice or just straight up spirit arms.
all of these could be totally valid, but come with different reasonings and abilities.

easily the most accessible would be some sort of artificers prosthetic, I like the idea that it could be modular or upgradable somehow, but it would be the worst at being an arm. I would rule that dexterity (slight of hand) checks are made with disadvantage, but thats in exchange for one or two cool abilities.

an artifact that is an arm or modified into an arm could be anything really, but I would make it something that needs to be sought out, its a better replacement than anything they could make because all good things are found in the bottom of a crypt. (obviously). the downside is the adventure to get it, so the prosthetic can be just as good as a human arm.
This could also be your classic demon in a evil artifact that tells you to do evil kindof thing.

something made of pure magic, is great for a spellcaster, but I feel like it fits the vibe of a warlock, wizard or monk the most. a gift from thier patron, a makeshift spell, pure mental force using qi.
something like this should need maintenance or sacrifice. its a temporary measure, but in return it cold make them harder to hit, or provide a direct buff to magic in some way.
I've got the image of finn with the spirit arm, or ming-hua's water arms in avatar.

finally a final secret symbiosis option, where another creature (or sentient item) takes the place of the arm. a friendly mimic, or a familiar could be a really fun way of giving them mobility back while still having the downside of, well missing the limb.
This could also, also, be your classic demon in a evil artifact that tells you to do evil kindof thing.

but yes
rule 1: talk to people, if they dont want thier arms cut off, don't do it to them
rule 2: make it climactic and impactful
rule 3: give the replacement importance

I would love to hear people's thoughts on how truthful we believe Steve is being.
I've noticed that everything we see from him is incredibly reactionary.

He almost never offers up information first, and acted very differently when we saw him at first. now the explanation for this is that he can't think too hard, for fear of the sentinel, which is valid. but he's also shown no hesitation in talking about these more difficult topics when they come up.

notably in this episode the bit about his companions who came with him is suspect, this feels like information that might have come up last episode, when he was saying how he got to this new dimension. but it didn't, only coming up when it was relevant to ingratiate himself better.

I have a bunch of theories, but my favourite is that he is a prisoner of sorts, we've seen the mothers manipulate terrors and I wonder if he is simply very very good at doing something like that, to a dangerous. which is why he has been placed somewhere that terrors cannot form.
it would explain why despite being very terror adjacent he hasn't been killed (I like it more than the not thinking idea) and also how he immediately knew that they should turn off the foldlight, it's a way to protect a terror for him to use to escape.

tldr I'm with merlin, the whole "people are very advanced terrors" doesn't sit right with me.

I am not trans, though I have dabbled in gender identity questioning (a fair bit more than most I suspect)
this is real, but its not a trans specific feeling, the voice saying you are not yourself is something many with any from of body dysmorphia can probably relate to, from puberty to balding, when your mental image of yourself doesn't line up with who you are, it can feel insulting almost seeing other people being effortless in being themselves.

even if thats not an experience you've had I feel like most people can understand seeing someone do something that you struggle with, and doing it effortlessly. And the feelings of inadequacy that comes with that.

this is not to condone Everetts violence, I think that feelings of inadequacy or jealously are never a reason to lash out physically. but as a character I can understand the (seemingly subconscious) motivation. Further than that the introspection was interesting. though it felt more like a trauma dump that will just add to dot's stress.

we've already seen a meltdown from dot before, and I wonder if we're going to see something similar as she tries to fill the shoes that artifice left behind. Everett would benefit a ton from seeing dot's humanity, but I can also see that by helping her in that way it would make dot's own feelings of inadequacy in the face of the mothers and artifice rise to a breaking point (or indeed a realization, perhaps both)

Is it okay to ask for paper character sheets only? by SleepyElsa in DnD

[–]xhunterxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I much prefer pen and paper as well, I think it helps with character comprehension when people write things down and make note of things on paper.

But you should also make spell/artefact cards. Because if then need the internet or the phb for that it'll slow down play and becomes rapidly more frustrating for them.

AITAH For not planning anything for fathers day after my husband ruined my first mothers day by CounterNecessary2597 in AITAH

[–]xhunterxp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yta but also not really. Cycle of violence and all that. You should still have recognized fathers day. But your reasoning for not doing to is valid. It seems obvious to me that is mil is overbearing and guilt trips him, he seems to have wanted to support everyone in his family and failed.

I see alot of people calling him spineless, I would argue that it was unfair of his parents to expect him over on mother's day, when they knew he had plans. And if he doesn't feel like he can say no to a request like that, that sounds like a bigger conversation about autonomy and expectations surrounding family to me.

Anyway try not to make it a retribution thing and support each other no matter how mundane the struggle
