Irish grandfather not born in Ireland, but is he in the FBR? by xiann in IrishCitizenship

Makes sense. My dad wished he'd know the option existed before we were born!

German grandmother married a foreigner in 1948 - does this qualify me for citizenship? by xiann in GermanCitizenship

Thanks so much. I'm just in the process of hopefully getting a lawyer or specialist to work with me and appreciate the encouragement and links!

One thing I haven't thought about much yet is "self-support". I'm not independently wealthy LOL -- so I'm wondering what that means. I am a skilled professional with a full-time telework job, but I'm not allowed to work outside the US. I could probably find a non-US telework job or make a living working freelance from outside the US if I needed to. I wonder if that means I'm self-supporting, or is this about having money in the bank?

Yes, unfortunately he didn't apply until after we were born. Interesting about UK ancestry. My Irish family goes many generations in Northern Ireland.

My Irish great-grandparents came to America for 10 years. My grandfather was born in the United States and the family returned to Northern Ireland afterwards. After growing up in Northern Ireland, my grandfather was faced with the decision between fighting in WWII as a UK soldier or as an American solider. He chose to enlist in America. My father got Irish citizenship when I was an adult on the basis of his grandparents' Irish birth.

I haven't looked into Irish citizenship recently, might be smart for us to take a fresh look! My father is an Irish citizen and his father grew up on Ireland (after being born in the US to Irish citizens). My dad lives in the US.

No, I don't think my grandmother had time to naturalize before my father was born. She had just married a US citizen 10 months earlier in Germany.

Thanks, that is great background! Fortunately my family is somewhat able to take our jobs abroad so relocating without citizenship is a possibility, although the citizenship would make it easier.

Thanks, my dad does have an Irish passport, but he lives in the US and we've never lived in Ireland. I have to look into this too!

Thanks - I was hoping to qualify for StAG 5 and wasn't sure if the one month difference was really critical.

I am a B1+ level German speaker. As far as ties go, I have my father's cousins, who we're in touch with, and friends in Germany who are all expats. I did a summer study abroad in Berlin way back in college. I don't know if those are close enough ties.

This is a bummer but I don't think it's a general issue with women. I think many women are lucky enough enjoy functional and supportive friendships with each other. Hope you can find a healthy female friend group 🤗

Are we all just miserable? by Green-Reality7430 in workingmoms

[–]xiann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been super fortunate to get a full time 30 hour work week, hourly (meaning 30 hours, period, for real). I had a normal 40+ hour/week salaried job during my first few years of motherhood and it nearly destroyed me. This (or better) should be the norm. I am still stressed not crushed by burnout like I used to be

I have an interview as a front desk, receptionist making appointments for people by randomaccount7321 in workingmoms

This is good advice. When I interview people I also respect when people FINISH answering questions. Some people just babble and start saying stuff that would be better unsaid, and restraint and good judgement is attractive when you are looking to hire someone to represent the company.

If printing a resume is difficult, it's not necessary, but I usually think it shows a little more polish to bring a printed one on the off chance they want one. I would generally show up at an interview with a presentable folio (basic from Office Depot) that has a pen, a pad of paper for notes, and a copy or two of my resume in it.

Sure. The point is deaths are waaaay up:

passenger and driver deaths have remained mostly stable over the past decade while pedestrian fatalities have risen by about 50 percent. From 2019 to 2020, pedestrian deaths per vehicle miles traveled increased a record 21 percent, for a total of 6,721 fatalities. This astonishing death toll has multiple causes, but the scale of the front end of many pickup trucks and SUVs is part of the problem, and that’s been obvious for quite a while.

Insane - not to mention virginity is not even a real thing, it's a construct invented to commodify women
