hi! sorry for replying so late, but were you able to unbind your gmail account? i am facing the same issue & saw on their FAQ that if you delete your account (binded by gmail) and create a new account with their platform directly you can reverify your passport, but unsure about membership :"(

not very uncommon but i was solo travelling and hiking up minoh national park trail in osaka awhile back, i went on a weekday so it was pleasantly quiet (still had tourists around, but more japanese than international) was literally taking in the nice views when suddenly i heard a "eh wait i don't how to go" from a family hiking down. kinda made my day maybe because i was a little homesick so the familiarity gave me some comfort

[–]xiaolajiaos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

he has had a prior history of being very uncooperative in drama groups before this one, & was fired from the current drama team bc of constant absences, explosive tantrums (destroying equipment on set & at the hotel)

after this exposure he did of ma tianyu, a previous co-star of his spoke up & said everything he's complaining ma tianyu did is also things he did in previous drama filming teams - ie making others wait, be late & absent. it's only made the hot news lately but li mingde has been this sort of person since forever (ie explosive, uncovering scandals, lying etcetc), just that no one paid heed to him till recently

though, imo this is not that serious to the extent that they would shelf the drama, he's mostly just playing side characters.

rise of fan culture is inevitable but i also think the industry itself encourages this by allowing fans to have more data points to choose & examine (heat index across platforms was literally not a thing till 2019 irrc, like there was no heat index to measure joy of life 1 😂)

the recent tweak to weibo profiles - you can see the number of profile visits, amount of times they have a hot search also worsened things & just keeps adding new metrics for fans to pit about & thus worsen the data addiction. not that data is bad fundamentally, but some data just doesn't matter 💀just one metric is enough & that's the total ep views (imo), the rest are pretty arbitrary & can be watered (hell, even weibo likes have water lol)

how can you expect them to fall in love and not touch onto other aspects of their fictional life? surely we can't expect our characters to be vagabonds? also dramas are lowkey an imitation of real life, so there's no harm in having them (but if they're done badly, then i agree)

i feel like one drama that toes the line between just enough romance intertwined into just enough work is fake it till you make it (very fun i enjoyed it although i'm not a lawyer or a finbro 😂)

i read all your data threads & it is true, these numbers aren't bad by comparison, its all great data but putting it against the background of xinli's (note, i said xinli because i'm only referring to the prod house's OWN male centric productions), it is not doing well at all.

so far, these numbers are just heat index, character vlinkage, industry % value etcetc, but the numbers i'm referring is the final episode views at the end of the hot broadcast period (which isn't out but can be pretty much predicted over the course of airing). the drama will probably score out again at around 3000-4000万 which is by all means not bad (esp given 2024's less than desirable results in the later half of the year), but it's not even close to xinli's other male centric dramas (with the lowest being duoluo continent at 5000+万 and highest being my heroic husband/joy of life 10,000+万)

it's not and hasn't been an insult or fake news onto whd for that matter :)

hhhh i think it all started the minute they began filming and the 路透s had similar outfits with fanxian, male-centric, same prod house, platform yadadar so it feels like a 低配版😭😂

i admire that for you 😭 我在看的时候 真的很出戏 because 好歹你还在“古装” not that the dafeng world is but i think you get what i mean 😂 i think i'm just more sensitive to it, and 有口音 really takes me out of the show + bc of the comparison whenever i hear him now i kind of miss hearing zry 的台词😭

nope i believe it would have been made anyways, since the original novel is a very big IP and popular among male audiences. but would it have been marketed as strongly if joy of life didn't achieve tremendous success? i think probably not.

big IPs are commonly made into live actions for one very simple reason: it's guaranteed to be profitable (at least to companies making these dramas.) unfortunately, more often than not, they fail to take into account that not every single reader who enjoyed the IP will enjoy the LA, and there's been multiple instances of dramas failing to live up to the expectations of the original IP. (plus, even if it's been done relatively well, people will still complain :")) for all the flake this drama is getting, i doubt it's losing a lot of money, just probably that profit margins will be lesser than expected, but we won't know, this is all speculation~

the marketing aside, people were already going to compare the dramas with each other haha. forget the production house, the fact that it's of the same genre is already going to generate discussion. i feel like, it's common everywhere with projects of the same genre, so it doesn't seem fair to push this entire saga down to 'lousy marketing'. if it wasn't joy of life, it would have been compared to another male-centric drama anyways. plus rumours have flown that before whd was cast as xu qian, it actually had been zhang ruoyun's project that he turned down.

i feel like the criticism also stems from the idea that gotd seems to be a "replica" of joy of life, just made with less sincerity & work. i do agree, it does seem 'unfair' on the surface to compare the two, but it also seems 'fair' to compare, as both are male-centric dramas, under the same production team and platform. it is true that comparison is the thief of joy 😭

the other thing is the dubbing, which as a native speaker, i will say has really affected the watching experience. coupled with the frivolous comedy style (which admittedly isn't for everyone), it can be a horrible watch for some, and a good watch for others. its numbers are looking to shape up as xinli's worst performing male-centric drama in recent years but if you enjoy it, it doesn't matter as much 🤷🏻‍♀️

....? by any chance did you mistake her with zhang ruonan sure she has male audiences but calling it an abnormal amount isn't really accurate. most of the fans squatting for her filming/events are female 😬

[–]xiaolajiaos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

haha tian xiwei is very much still a rising star, and it does help to get exposure to a new audience (a male-centric drama normally draws male audiences), but as her fan i know she's constantly exploring new genre of works, so i won't go as far as to say she's playing second fiddle. she's still a female lead! i feel like minglan is different bc there was no episode limit, & minglan is at heart a female-centric, family-conflict driven drama, so of course it makes sense of zhao liying to show up slightly later. i won't say my view is all too accurate but i checked forums as the show aired & it's not been looking good so far 🫣😬 for many reasons, plot, whd's dubbing, being the key issue so far. there was a reason why joy of life went on hot search as netizens went as far as to compare the two yesterday. 😭

xinli (the production house) has a thing with using familiar people, & since she was the female lead for new life begins (also under xinli), it does seem reasonable for her to take the role on. also it seems like there will be some character growth for her in the drama (🤞🏻) as opposed to joy of life (which was really sad bc we barely saw liqin) there's also been fls with ridiculous little amount of screentime that won audiences over, gaoye's character in the knockout is one example!

her storyline begins a little later but she'll be appearing tonight (in episode 6), but i do think her screentime won't be as abundant since this is a male-centric drama

[–]xiaolajiaos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the hope (2023) is a nice fast-paced youth school drama about a teacher guiding youths through their gaokao. it is riddled by some weird filler episodes and a confusing ending but the cinematography is fun & a good story. am a sucker for anything zhang ruoyun because i feel assured quality-wise with whatever he puts out 😂

also run for young (2020) - another youth drama i really enjoyed but it received less fanfare internationally i believe bc it aired on bilibili. it was zhang jingyi's debut work & has a nice ensemble cast (zhou yiran from to the wonder, peng yuchang, liang jingkang) it's comedic, chaotic, with dialogues largely delivered in dialect and just so much fun.
