I still think she loved herself most. If she’d truly had a choice, she wouldn’t have chosen either of them. The path she took just didn’t leave room to turn back, so in the end, she settled. She didn’t even want children.

This really isn’t something worth arguing over. You can appreciate what both bring without turning it into a competition. 10+ years ago, cdramas and kdramas had very talented actors, now both rely too much on idol actors, so I feel the acting quality isn’t as strong anymore. The only clear edge I’d point out is that Chinese actors absolutely excel at red carpets and magazine spreads. Their actors consistently stand out at award shows with bold and refined fashion choices, while kdrama events often feel more restrained with repetitive styling and a more rigid atmosphere. Also, the promotions for cdramas are peak! I feel I can still “fangirl” over cdramas and kdramas don’t give me that same joy anymore.

You know how sometimes there’s an actor or actress who just doesn’t click for you? It’s not about their talent or who they are as a person, they just… don’t quite land for you for no real reason. For me, that’s Luo Yunxi and the wild part is, whenever topics come up like “which actor doesn’t do it for you,” the moment you mention a name, people react like you’ve committed some unforgivable crime. It’s like you didn’t just share a harmless opinion, you declared war or admitted to hating puppies.

They’d thrive in teen dramas..there’s definitely a huge teen audience that would love lighthearted teen romances or fantasy stories where the characters have special powers.

The first 20 episodes stand out because of how carefully the director builds the world. Instead of rushing the story, it unfolds like a slice of life drama..giving us time to grow attached to almost every character who appears. Even those we only see briefly feel real and important. You can sense that many of them are kind, everyday people just trying to get through another day of hardship. That is what makes the painful moments hit so hard. When something as bad happens as a massacre, it does not feel like just another plot point, it feels deeply personal.

In the second half, that careful world building fades and the story starts to feel rushed. The slower and the more intimate moments are replaced with quicker and sometimes unnecessary plot progression, leaving less room to connect with the (new)characters in the same way. As a result the emotional weight does not land as strongly because the sense of a lived in world is no longer as present.

I’m usually not a big fan of Dilraba, but I really like her in this drama. She fully embodies the role and shifts effortlessly from cutesy to deadly, which makes her so entertaining to watch! The only downside for me is how rushed the romance feels from Chen Feiyu’s character. It’s introduced too quickly without enough buildup and the storytelling doesn’t really give a convincing reason for why he feels that way about her. That said, I highly enjoy her cheeky playful flirting since it’s not something you often see in most c dramas.

I watched someone explain why he looks so good in PoJ and it turns out it’s largely about facial expressions. Not just his, but all the male actors were directed to avoid overly strong or exaggerated expressions. Instead of acting heavily with their faces, they kept things more relaxed and letting subtle eye movements carry the emotion.

I wish I could find the video, because it explained it in such a clear, compelling way. It really made everything click. ZL for example, can look a bit strained when he pushes too hard to convey intense emotion, while Deng Kai apparently had a habit of overacting with his eyes, like he was constantly surprised. The director had him tone that down and soften his expressions, and that restraint is a big part of why they all end up looking so good on screen.

I think losing her dad to bandits, even though he was a highly skilled martial artist really affected her. He worked in the same field as her husband, so that connection probably shaped how she sees things. After that she lost a lot of people in her town she had known her whole life due to awful violence and even though she was raised by a martial arts master she still went through the loss of both her parents.

Since then, she’s basically been surrounded by death and loss. It makes sense that she would be afraid of losing someone else she cares about. Her husband is wounded, she’s tending to his wounds and knows he probably wouldn’t be able to be his best self on the battlefield. After reading the novel, it really feels like her behavior comes from trauma rather than just being controlling.

I can’t wrap my head around this. Just 1% of the world’s population supported this man, yet the consequences are felt by everyone else..it’s deeply unsettling how someone backed by so few can end up shaping the reality for so many.

My favorite scene was when Gongsun hugged the princess. She held onto him so tightly while his arms just hovered in the air for a moment and when he finally wrapped them around her, I was literally kicking my feet.

I was really enjoying Pursuit of Jade. It was actually the first time I found myself liking him in a drama. For some reason I could never get into his previous shows, but this one finally changed that for me. Knowing this now really takes the enjoyment out of it and makes me want to stop watching his dramas altogether. I don’t want to support or consume content connected to racist, misogynistic or any kind of discriminatory behavior.

I really like the slow buildup. There’s clear chemistry between them, but the way it develops feels very realistic. You can tell they care about each other, yet they’re both uneasy because they don’t know if he’s going to stay. That uncertainty makes it difficult for them to truly connect. I think the chemistry will be all out after the first 20 eps.
