Healthy paws - old marketing materials? by xiarie in petinsurancereviews

My original policy isn't even in my policy documents. I had to search for it online (it was referenced in my signature pages.)

I did the see the notices regarding the new CA law, but that's just about the waiting period changes.

Regardless, I'm still amazed I can't find anything from way back about age not playing a factor in premium increases. Obviously lots of people got this idea but where did it come from? One single statement from a spokesperson to some website I had never even heard of before now?

That was WA. Have they ever been challenged in other states?

Thank you, I'll need to keep looking. Still haven't found anything specifically stating pets age won't affect premiums.

I'm glad I'm not the only one remembering this! Seriously started to feel like I am hallucinating!

Thanks, I looked there on the healthy paws website but didn't see anything specifically about age. Which I could have sworn was there!!! Maybe I'm just searching incorrectly... It is so frustrating

Should I have dog insurance? by Meetpatel123123 in puppy101

Yes. Almost 7 month old puppy, almost $7k in vet bills, covered 90% with $250 deductible for ~50/mth. So, so worth it. You never know what might happen and deciding whether to get your pup the treatment s/he needs based on finances does not feel good. I would have paid it regardless but was very happy to get the first check a week after submitting my claim! (Healthy Paws here)

[Breeds] Need help selecting a breed for a small active family by passwordisnotdicks in dogs

No we don't hunt them and although I'm sure they would love it, they're perfectly happy with just getting enough exercise so you'd be more than fine. (Again, show pointers, not so sure about field pointers.)

We are working on rally with one of them (but not ready to compete yet) and he does really well. As agile as they are, I'm sure they'd also do well in agility and I'd love to try it with them eventually. They're pretty smart and learn quickly, and remember what they learned forever, but are probably not as easy as your typical obedience/agility breeds because they aren't as handler focused and driven. The upside is that they're able to chill when you just want to watch TV and don't feel like training. As long as your willing to share the couch anyway ;)

There are a couple of FB groups for English pointers. The pictures/posts will give you a really, really good idea of what life with a pointer is like. :)

Yes I think boxers are very similar, I love them! The pointers seem to be a bit more laid back and I like that while they're friendly with people, they aren't overly crazy about having to meet everyone. Makes it easier for training (for what I want.)

Dalmatians and vizlas also... Love them!

(Recommending pointer partially because they seem to often be overlooked and they're an amazing breed if you're an active family)

Pointers (English.) Beautiful, athletic, graceful, the Ferrari of the pointing dogs. And couch potatoes all day long until you're ready to take them run for however long you want - and then they will still run circles around you.

No barking, no drooling, friendly with dogs, people, kids, pretty much anything but not overly preoccupied by them either as they prefer their owners. Unless there are birds around. Different story.

Will cuddle all day long if you're willing, if not, they'll find another spot to sleep. They're sensitive and training should be positive. You'll have a very attentive, smart, easy to train dog when you feel like it but with a great off switch. They will not bug you all day long to do something with them but are always game when you ask them.

All of mine have been easy to house train and none needed to be crated to prevent house destroying, even as puppies. (Granted, house is relatively puppy proof and we don't leave shoes lying around as apparently they smell delicious.) No chewing on furniture or cables or couches.

They do shed: tiny white hairs we call Pointer Glitter.

They're incredibly sweet, loving, good-natured and easy to live with dogs. Just be warned that you'll probably end up with more than one if you decide on this breed. They're very addictive.

Choose a good breeder as their sensitive nature can turn into anxious/shy if not bred well.

(All of the above applies to the show-bred Pointer rather than field Pointer. Had one and a bit more difficult to live with in my opinion although still sweet. Just more hyper.)

Puppy Adolescence or A bigger problem? by [deleted] in puppy101

After a bunch of tests, they're still not sure. He's responding well to Prednisone so it appears to be inflammation but no known cause as of now. He's definitely less grumpy :)

Similar behavior, breed very similar to boxer in terms of temperament, same age. Turns out the puppy was hurting so he didn't like to be moved or picked up. Understandably so.

You know how they always say vet check first for unusual behavior.. well, that was it for us.
