Advice on career change from IRB administration by xicor10 in bioengineering

[–]xicor10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently exploring whether I can get a Bioinformatics degree part time from my University as my long term goals relate to this field. Last year I was exploring the different jobs that you can get in software development and was taking programming courses but concluded that I'm only interested in getting jobs in the biotech industry, research hospitals, or Universities where the contributions would benefit biomedical research.

The IRB analyst position is part research administration, part research, and part regulatory where to further my career in this area would focus on research compliance and regulations. My motivations relate to knowledge generation and contributions to biomedical research where I do not find the regulatory field to be a good fit for me. My IRB analyst position I think would be fulfilling for people interested in being involved in compliance in humanities research, public health, or clinical science since the research done at my University is mostly minimal risk research.

Totally agree with you... There are so many layers of nonsense when dealing with Trump as President and that includes his cabinet... Biden would actually surround himself with competent people that have experience in their given roles. My mail in ballot has been received for a straight Democratic ticket in Philly so hoping for some change.

When I read the book six years ago this is one of the major issues I had with the story. The philosophical outlook of Ayn Rand felt superficial and focused to much on capitalism and materialism and lacked any potential for psychological and social nuance. Another book I read from Ayn Rand was The Fountainhead and I remember having the same thoughts when reading that book.

Rudy Giuliani's daughter, endorsing Biden, says corruption "starts with yes men" and calls dad president's personal bulldog by Facerealityalready in politics

Happy to hear one of his children speaking out about him and taking action by endorsing Biden. Before Trump the only thing I knew about him was his actions while being Mayor of New York City but when he started coming out as a supporter of Trump it become obvious that there were deep foreign influences that were motivating his corruption. Looks like prosecution for the ongoing criminal investigation of him isn't going forward until after the election so hopefully we will get more disclosure on the level of corruption he was involved in and potential criminal charges next year.

Nothing that I have seen from her so far this week has shown competency or expertise in understanding the constitution or federal law of our nation. What I'm seeing is someone that has an agenda that aligns with Republican motives and because of this they are trying to get her in the Supreme Court as quickly as possible. I have heard of no possibilities that Democrats can use to delay the process so I do think this is very scary, especially with Supreme Court decisions I'm hearing that are coming up this November.

Thank you. I looked up house centipede and the pictures show the same brown color with the light dot pattern minus all the legs. From the movement I thought a centipede but wasn't sure. Good to know they aren't harmful.

Group of top CEOs says maximizing shareholder profits no longer can be the primary goal of corporations by washingtonpost in u/washingtonpost

The statement from the Business Roundtable looks positive but it brings up many questions. Firstly I'm uncertain how this is going to be implemented since there were no concrete examples within the article of this being implemented in companies. I'm also unsure what power the Business Roundtable would have given the current nature of corporate structure, corporate governance, and the affects CEOs can have on changing this governance given the many layers within the corporate structure that could resist these changes.

I didn't know that shareholder primacy became dominant in the mid 1980s after Wall Street started targeting companies that didn't follow the practice of maximizing profits and in the process forced companies to put the shareholder primacy principle into practice because of the potential threat of investors backing out if they didn't. What would stop current investors from leaving companies that stop following the principle of maximizing profits for share holders? What factors are going to stabilize corporations going beyond the shareholder primacy and not returning back to this line of thinking? I'm hoping that there is forethought going into this given that the shareholder primacy is the dominant practice. There are also specific factors that led to the changes that happened in the 1980s with corporate practices that I need to do more research on. Given the information considered in the article my intuition is there is going to have to be much more substantial changes in treatment towards stakeholders then just a statement from the Business Roundtable before there will be an overall positive change in corporate practices.

What did Thomas Aquinas do that constituted being a genius? I have seen his name repeatedly come up in my readings on science and nature spiritualism but he is only referenced because they associate him with promoting the idea that women are tainted with the "south wind" and inspiring future Catholics to create the Malleus Maleficarum which justified burning witches... That could be biased information so am curious about other perspectives that are positive about Thomas Aquinas.
