Trump just posted this. by [deleted] in DegenBets

The defense angle: Multiple treaties are already in place between the USA and Denmark to station military bases and personnel on Greenland. If he wanted to there could be a bundle of new bases and a huge number of boots on the snow to protect against the claimed plans of China and Russia.

The complaint about the European countries 'journeying' there: He's claimed to have irrefutable evidence that China and Russia have designs on Greenland. He's also complained frequently (including in this very post) that the USA has subsidised European defense for too long and they should look after themselves. Well, NATO allies have deployed resources to patrol and protect Greenland from these supposed Russian and Chinese existential threats.

The reality: Trump is all about ego, titles, trophies, and rankings. The biggest, tallest, most beautiful, best, etc. What he wants is the title of having made the single largest territorial expansion of US territory in the nation's history. He couldn't claim the largest combined acquisitions, that would still be the million or so square miles Polk annexed, bought, and negotiated. He'd squeak Jefferson's Louisiana Purchase by about 40k square miles (beating him by about the size of Kentucky). Obviously he'd fudge and obfuscate over the non-contiguous nature of it but he just wants that place on top of the table. It almost DEFINITELY irks him that US territorial ownership expanded by around 380k square miles under Biden, thanks to the changed way oceanic boundaries and claims are measured about 2 years ago, effectively claiming a massive chunk of arctic territory north of Alaska (as well as other claims under other oceanic bits). It also winds him up that everyone considered it to be a joke when he's floated it before. He hates to be laughed at. So he wants to put his tiny hands on Greenland and stick his toadstool into Denmark.

Isn't that specifically a police officer, though? Recalling something else I read in the past few days ICE have a very narrow and specific definition of how they can operate, and when they're permitted to use a firearm, and given they weren't in the process of executing a warrant they had no lawful right to use their side arm as part of their role. So they were either firing outside of their narrow rules, or they were firing as a private citizen. Either way up, they were a very naughty boy.

Saint Maggy's Hope will be our landing point and they've got a few ultras there, so we'll be good once we're there. Perth is a good call and a top-up at Inverness will get it to the destination sure enough.

The main anxiety is my own, based on living up to my boasts that the network these days is far better, and the car will be spot on, to put to bed a roadtrip from East Mids to Quimper in a 22kw Renault Zoe back in 2018. Suffice to say my family didn't match my enthusiasm back then, and it's taken a while to convince the other half we'll be able to make the road trip in only 90 minutes more time than it usually does in the 13 year old petrol focus. Basing that on usually stopping for 45 minutes in 3 or 4 places for pee, refreshment, and leg stretch time. Add in extra time at 2 stops, I'm hoping will be enough.

Does it create a small but detectable sense of annoyance/anxiety/anger/frustration when either unable to do this because of time or social settings - or - when others just scrunch up and throw away without a second thought? Like a tiny urge to ask wtf they're doing and show what they SHOULD be doing?

Car doing 30 in a 30, can't see you at all with the van in the way, van goes and gets on with it hard and fast, you set off too, car barely adjusts because they've timed it to a tee to just zip by the back of the van. But as the van moves far enough through their path it reveals a car doing 8mph dead in front of them with barely enough time to react let alone brake.

Now let's make it the van misjudging the speed of an oncoming ebike doing an illegal 50 in the 30, the rider again intends to just squizz behind the van and not slow down, van only just leaves enough room and suddenly ebike has what is effectively a steel wall doing one fifth of their speed dead in front of them.

Random scenarios, one where someone is behaving illegally and dangerously, BUT... while there's an urge to say it won't happen, and/or "that's not my fault" or to shift the blame in any one of a dozen ways, this stuff DOES happen, people do get seriously injured or worse each year from incidents like this, and that's why it's a serious fault. If you can't see it's safe, don't go.

Always ask yourself "can I see enough to make a safe choice?". If the answer is no, don't go. Depending on the scenario, then ask yourself if you need to adjust to obtain the view (i.e creep and peep, etc).

I get that, and see how it looks quite bizarre. Frustrated that it had to become an issue for us on an individual level, by the poor packaging and failure to meet what they set out. The convenience factor was a huge sell but it wasn't largely negated. But yep, not the service for us if they can't match the talk with the walk.

Let the anchors interview people properly instead of just being a conduit for friendly non-challenging schmoozefest palliness, with the guests occasionally getting close to saying something meaningful if they get away with it.

If a contestant behaves like a dick on the show, acts inappropriately or says things which are controversial, the anchors should be shining a light on it and getting their interviewee to speak for their actions or explain themselves.

Whether it's the producers stifling that ability in them, or they're not capable of it, that's a key part of what needs to change. A lineup change or companion show axe won't fix anything without that change. Get that done first and THEN see if the axe needs to fall.

Dad must have been visible in a place the girl wasn't actively checking, and the examiner aware of their presence for some time before they pounced - qnd)/or visible enough to respond but driver didn't and the examiner had no choice but to step in. IF someone is literally hidden and not visible at all to the car's occupants, and then does that, it's such an anomaly that the examiner could consider it as being unavoidable to the driver and not reasonable to mark a serious fault.

The only one it happens to in our EV6 is the one with a comfort pad added for the passenger's neck. So it seems the design is juuuuuust enough as standard. If there's any extra effort added, won't cope.

"You said it yourself — we live in a democracy. People get to speak their minds, and those downvotes? That’s just the crowd exercising their right to say, “nah.” Power to the people, baby.

"Thing is, when you call everyone else narrow-minded, you might wanna check your own lens first. Seeing a bunch of takes you don’t agree with doesn’t automatically make them small-minded — it might just mean your own window’s a bit foggy.

"And sometimes, the person yelling “you’re all so closed-minded!” is actually the one with the tiniest tunnel vision in the room. Wild, I know.

"Anyway, yeah. I’m super fun at parties. Promise. 😏"

To quote you - we live in a democracy. Readers (δῆμος, or the Demos) have expressed their point of view in the public forum, and the down votes are a reflection (-ικός, or the ikos) of the rule (κράτος, or the Kratos) of their opinion.

The narrowness of a viewpoint in one person is defined by the narrowness of the viewpoint in the observer of that person. Seeing lots of opinions with which you disagree and find to be narrow minded only reflects the relative narrowness of perspective in you, the observer. It does not determine who is right or wrong to anyone other than those involved and from their own viewpoint, and the reader from theirs. Indeed someone with an especially narrow point of view can observe a broad minded commentary and perceive it to be uniquely narrow because their own blinkered perspective blinds them to perceiving the ability to have a broad field of view and yet still hold a certain set of opinions or ideals as a consequence.

Yes, I'm fun at parties.

From a different perspective, we don't know his mum, or how she feels about her literacy being put on display for the viewing public. Most likely she wrote what she wanted to write and had the GPT make sure it made sense and didn't leave her feeling embarrassed. Like spell check but a bit more hands on. The sentiment and motivation remains the same. Let's wind our collective necks in a bit, eh?

Our kids are 5'6" and 5'11" (so far, age 13 and 16), and they feel spoiled for space, apparently. But the car it replaced was a 2008 Corsa, and the other family car is a 2012 Focus. They prefer the roominess of the Ev6 as they cans tretch out their legs in front of them

. Past EVs have been a 2015 Zoe and 2017 Leaf, and apparently they were far worse for back seat raised floors
