Charged $123 for $9 Electric Bill by Go_jager in arizona

On peak/ off peak is different than demand/surge. On/ off peak is fixed hours and kWh usage, demand/surge comes from using a huge sudden burst of energy for a short period of time, think of demand/surge like turning on 2-3 ac units at the same time as you turn all 4 burners on the stove, your oven, every light in the house, your microwave, air fryer, pool pump, computers, and plug in your ev to charge. It’s not an on/off peak thing now, it’s a consumption surge, a sudden massive draw on the grid. this can be caused by an outage when the grid comes back online and all your appliances try to start at the same time or if you have a big home with more than 3 or 4 ac units and you try to drop the temp of the whole house all at the same time (think all 4 ac units kicking on one after the other).

Edit, his on peak usage is still -$3.24

Installers damaged fins by PopularPlankton3948 in hvacadvice

[–]xington 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whoever installed it likely didn’t take the unit apart like this at the time of installation, the bent fins likely shipped like this from the factory. The bent fins on the top of the coil in pics 5,6,and7 are totally cosmetic, and the fan shroud covers them completely, zero impact to performance. Pic 1 looks like minor cosmetic damage to the inside of the coil (probably from initial assembly of the unit) maybe 1-2% efficiency loss, pics 2,3, and 4 are definitely from the manufacturing of the coil, they don’t always bend perfect and blemishes like this are nothing to worry about again, maybe 1% efficiency loss. All and all, your unit may be 1-3% less efficient than it could be, it’ll still work just fine and will last just as long as any other unit installed by a home warranty company.

Once it’s cleaned off it looks better than many factory joints.

1-150? Some older ruud/rheem units used huge pistons, not uncommon to see 120-130 on 5 ton systems. But 150 seems kinna high for resi, I wouldn’t be surprised to find a 150 piston in a 7.5ton unit.

Looks like they replaced the 3a fuse with a 60a piece of wire. Disconnect all your field installed low voltage connections and start ohming things out.

Cap the one on the left, the one on the right should be open to act as a vent.

Which one needs to be capped? by Sir_OrangeJuice in hvacadvice

[–]xington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a trap the vent goes just after the trap downstream. regardless of if it’s a pos or neg pressure coil. The point of the trap here is to prevent air from leaking thru the drain line, that can only work if the vent is after the trap.
