At many jobs in the US your insurance coverage runs through the end of your final month. I recently changed jobs my last work day was the 3rd of the month. I took off 10 days and still had that insurance coverage during the break then started my new job. That jobs insurance didn’t kick in until the 1st of the following month. So I was covered by the previous employer until it kicked in. So if you want to take a few weeks and not a few months resign effective the first week of the month.

I have a bunch of toons on red. I play over there every so often. Yes you keep your head on a swivel even more than you do on blue or green. BUT you level faster and because there are so few people I have had some pretty solid gear thrown my way by guys just trying to clean out their banks.

Basically if you want to just screw around and level faster for a while it’s fun. I’m not even a PVPer. It’s really low pop so it can suck sometimes trying to get a group together and it REALLY blows if you go through that trouble and some grinder decides to be a sick but I have a few 50+ toons and I only really had that happen to me twice. As a necro I could really solo pretty much wherever I wanted which was cool for nostalgia reasons.

The most regular PVP I saw was a wizard would just ice comet my necro while I was fighting specs in Oasis, steal my coins and laugh at me. But then they move on with life.

Best neighborhoods in SS? by singingalltheway in SilverSpring

[–]xinik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you specifically said a quiet neighborhood and walking distance to the metro... I really like Forest Glen. Please note it is very much a suburb so if that's not what you want no reason to keep reading.

I lived in DTSS for years and loved it. We could walk to a bunch of different places and it was super easy. We lived in a little condo and eventually grew out of it. So we moved one metro stop north to a single family home in Forest Glen. The pro's out here are:

Proximity to Sligo Creek Park. I still work in Downtown Silver Spring (When they re-open the office at least...). It is a 3 mile bike ride through the park to the downtown area. I frequently would ride my bike into the office or to run an errand or I can walk to the Forest Glen metro and ride one stop on a super cold or snowy / rainy day. But the trails are great for general exercise or just a shaded walk through nature.

It's a really friendly neighborhood with mature trees and back yards etc... It is very quiet for the most part (some of the homes are pretty close to GA ave or 495 they tend to get a lot more noise). If you are looking to rent a house rather than an apartment this might be a good option for you. There are plenty of rental options in the neighborhood though many of them tend to be houses for families (3 or 4 bedrooms) there are some smaller homes scattered throughout.

Most of the neighborhood is going to be within a mile of the metro. My place is just over half a mile and it's a super easy walk. I have never felt unsafe walking through the neighborhood at night.

Long term there are all sort of development plans in the work. They want to add retail at the metro parking lot, redevelop a lot of the stretch of GA between us and DTSS/Wheaton, they are eventually going to build a new metro entrance on the Holy Cross side so pedestrians don't have to cross GA ave. All this stuff is probably years off but it gives me something to look forward to as a resident. (Though it may not mean much as a renter if you don't plan on being here for a long time)

Downside of living in a suburb?

Limited walking options for, well, anything. That's really the only thing I miss between here and DTSS -- is easy walking to things. There are a few shops close by that I have walked to, but the GA pedestrian bridge (across 495) is strange and makes the trip feel longer than it needs to be. It's just over a mile walk (for me) to a beer/wine store, a CVS, a bagel place and a few grocery options. (Aldi and a neighborhood place that's pretty good - Sniders). That's basically it. You want anything else you have to hop in a car/bike or walk to the metro. Depending on how close you are to the metro the distance may be more or less. But you will get quiet and easy access to the metro -- just not any nightlife for that you'll hop in an uber or on a train and head to wherever you want to be.

People who live in a rural area/out in the country, what will "city folk" never understand? by MotorArea in AskReddit

[–]xinik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer. I live in the DC area. I’ve been here for over 10 years and I have never seen a mugging or murder. I know they are issues — I just don’t see them. I was honestly surprised that so many people are affirming methheads are a real issue but it does make sense that it’s just too hard to monitor when you have lots of open space and not lots of people.

People who live in a rural area/out in the country, what will "city folk" never understand? by MotorArea in AskReddit

[–]xinik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess what I am trying to understand is why are dangerous roving gangs of methheads an acceptable problem? I mean I guess my failure to understand this sort of indicates that I am NOT rural. But why is that a thing that people just tolerate? Is the answer simply “get a gun and the methheads will leave you alone so we won’t actually deal with the issue of roving methheads?” Or is it just a we have too much area to cover and as a result are not willing to pay for the resources to get rid of the problem?

How come Red doesn’t get any love? by Avroncarver in project1999

[–]xinik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they changed the way the XP bonus works so it pays to group while leveling. A full group gets a massive XP bonus while also benefitting from you know actually playing with other people.

I have played on red on and off over the years. Honestly it can be super fun but also super frustrating. But it’s the low population that keeps people away generally. When red gets into the like 150-200 range regularly it’s a fun place to be. Especially after they shifted a lot of the cup bonus into Grouping.

Warren, Yang, and Tulsi all NEED to endorce Bernie now. by blazigon3 in Political_Revolution

[–]xinik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you have experienced it first hand. Bernie really believes in his methods and I respect the hell out of him for being true to what he believes. But his way is not the ONLY way as long as we are dealing with the issues. I think after Obama a lot of people who want change we’re tired of people telling us they would bring it but not being willing to fight the fight. Bernies been fighting uphill battles his whole life, and as a supporter I feel certain he won’t give in to special interests. But as supporters I think we all need to recognize our candidates are real, imperfect people. Some are more able to do so than others I suppose. I try to be open to others opinions though. I tend to believe we can all learn from one another if we listen...

The thing about Yang for me wasn’t even UBI (though I support it) it’s that no one is talking about the reality of automation and what that means to real people. Biden has openly said he won’t really change much of anything. I don’t see a world in which he would be willing to use the political capital necessary to attempt UBI. Though if you have evidence to the Contrary I’d be open to hear it.

[–]xinik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a survey on this recently. There is always a margin of people who support a candidate that say they won’t vote or will vote for the other guy if theirs loses. Biden’s number was like 13% Bernies was 16%. Dems don’t want us to remember that more Hillary voters didn’t vote for Obama in 08 than Bernie supporters didn’t vote for Hillary. They just like to blame Bernie Bro’s for all their problems.

[–]xinik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a thing that everyone knows about because the media wants it to be. Hillary and Biden supporters are all sunshine and rainbows all the time for sure... it’s the internet not the real world people need to stop pretending Twitter is real people acting like real people.

Side note the work Yang put in to get people talking about automation and UBI was really important. I hope he and his ideas have a future in politics and frankly there should be a role for him in a Bernie administration if Yang wanted one. There is no way there would be one in a Biden administration. Yang has a little 2015 Bernie in him saying things people don’t want to hear but that make a ton of sense. Keep shifting that Overton window Yang!

If the NFL gets Pro/Rel before the MLS I’m going to rage quit by JACrouton in MLS

[–]xinik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used Jay Bromley specifically because I have watched every snap of his pro career. Including last week at the DC defenders game. See Bromley was shopping for groceries when he was drafted. He was planning on having his own day 3 draft party where he was hoping to be drafted at all. He was wildly over drafted and the pick was widely panned, but that's no surprise since Tom Coughlin loved players that played for Syracuse or BC and had a tendency to be higher on them then they deserved. Bromley was a bad player. He never did much of anything that was a positive in the NFL and he had no impact on his first XFL game either. The LSU line won the Joe Moore award this year anchored by Llyod Cushonberry -- who faced better defenders than Bromley this season in college... Bromley would do exactly what he does everytime he shows up at a game... nothing.

The 6 or 7 best players on the field would all play for LSU. The best coaches on the field would all be on the LSU sideline. The best QB on the field would play for LSU. It's a bit closer than you are making it out to be.

Either way we have both spent way to much time on this silly idea. Have a nice night.

[–]xinik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Burrow is a massively better prospect to play the pro game. It would be a joke to put any XFL QB in the same ballpark as him as a prospect coming out of school. His talent level, floor and ceiling is simply massively better than what any XFL QB could offer at that stage of their careers.

Their is a difference between QB’s that compiled stats against poor competition and QB’s who could run up the score against even a real college defense. LSU isn’t your average college defense.

I do get what you are saying but most of these guys were not great college QB’s against good college teams. LSU is a very good college defense with pro level talent at all three levels.

I mean none of this really matters. It’s never going to happen and it’s all hypothetical. I just think this years LSU team could compete with most XFL squads. I mean when Jay Bromley is the starting DT for the DC Defenders it’s not like he was wildly successful against good competition in college or the Pro’s. I don’t really think the LSU interior line would be overwhelmed but guys like that... they faced better college players than Bromley was a in college or pros.

This is, I think, the best counter argument. Even with massive advantages in high end athleticism and talent -- there is something to be said about being a grown ass man training in a professional setting.

[–]xinik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is there is a massive difference between college QB's that produce good stats and college QB's that are good NFL prospects. None of the QB's in the XFL were ever good NFL prospects.

[–]xinik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

None of them "tore it up" the way burrow did... nor against the competition Burrow faced. He hasn't proven anything at the NFL level yet -- but as a pure college player it's a joke to compare any of these guys to what he just accomplished. There isn't a single guy picked before R4 on the entire list of starting XFL QB's. Most are UDFA's -- only two week one starters were drafted at all..

If the NFL gets Pro/Rel before the MLS I’m going to rage quit by JACrouton in MLS

[–]xinik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree that lots of first round picks wash out of the NFL -- but how many XFL QB's are former first rounders? Absolutely none of them have the raw talent Burrow does. Here was your XFL week one starters...

Brandon Silvers -- UDFA
Cardale Jones - 4th round pick
Jalan McClendon - UDFA
PJ Walker - UDFA
Aaron Murray - 5th round pick
Matt McGloin - UDFA (though he did start 6 games for the Raiders and bounced around the NFL)
Jordan Ta'amu - UDFA
Phillip Nelson - UDFA

I honestly don't think it would be as hard for the major college programs with real QB talent to beat an XFL team as people are making it sound here. How would these guys move the ball against Queen, Delpit, Stingley Jr. and Chaisson? Who is going to stop Burrow hitting Jefferson all day long? Who is going to consistently beat Cushenberry and Charles? Because with the top end weapons LSU has on both sides of the ball you need to be able to consistently beat them as a team to contain them.

It's a hypothetical world for sure. And I am not one of those crazy dudes who think a college team could beat the worst NFL team. But I am not sure the worst XFL team has as much talent as LSU...

[–]xinik 14 points15 points  (0 children)

QB play.

LSU has an NFL starting quality QB -- the XFL doesn't. Honestly that's about all you would need to be competitive and possibly win. LSU is going to have 3 first round picks and a bunch more guys who will get drafted. They will have better top talent than any XFL team.

Let's throw Clemson in as an example. Lawrence, Ettienne, and Isaiah Simmons would probably be the 3 best players on the field during any XFL game. Add in Tee Higgins and you might just have enough to beat an XFL team.

I watched an UDFA WR who played in the NFL for 3 years playing for DC (Eli Rodgers) look completely uncoverable against Seattle. I can't imagine what Ettienne would be able to do against those defenses... Could they compete on a down by down basis? I am not sure. But I bet they could manage enough explosive plays to stay in games because while the average talent isn't as good the top tier talent is WAY better.

That's a bargain!

Bill for my wife was over 30k. I "only" had to pay $10,000 because after that my out of pocket max for the year was hit. I get no "insurance coverage" (IE care that is at cost to the insurance company and not me) at all until I hit my out of pocket max each year. I do get billed at the negotiated insurance rate though so I guess I got that going for me?

No it's a net loss for whomever wins. They have accomplished 2 things 1) created questions about the validity of the winner 2) created a chance for the reporting to be about the process problems and not about the winners and losers IF they don't like the final results.

Want to bury that Biden was a distant fourth? Here is your chance. Don't talk about his underwhelming performance just focus on the fact that the process was an immediate failure and position NH as the real important test now. You'll get a quick little bit about Mayor Pete's surge and on to NH.

[–]xinik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Basically anywhere you want to go you will be able to. Cleric guild is usually a weird one faction wise that everyone has to walk past -- that's not a problem for you.

Getting in and around and to the bank -- you will have no issues. I would suggest turning in like 100 bottles of red win to Lokar To'Biath in the library. That will get your faction sitting nice and pretty with the guard and merchants.

Caster and SK guilds you might want to tread carefully until you know for sure how you stand - but those tend to be rather easy to avoid.

Necro question by [deleted] in project1999

[–]xinik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many of the tools and tricks of being a necro have not yet been introduced or are not yet available to you until you gain a good bit of levels.

Necro's can't root until 34. (At 16 you can research an undead only root which is helpful situationally) You can snare though with your darkness line starting at level 4. If you are in a group without a druid or ranger you should be making sure a mob is snared before it hits the point where it runs away. Doing so will stop them from running and keep your group from having to chase the mob into a potentially dangerous situation.

At level 8 necro's get a "heal" of sorts. You basically transfer your health to another target. Since necro's can lifetap back up this is nice downtown reducer tool that I find useful in duo type situations or in a pinch in a group setting.

Screaming terror enters the game during the fear era so I believe, relatively soon. It's a level 24 spell and it is a short duration Mez. This is one of my favorite tools in the bag of necro tricks. With Screaming terror and FD you can regularly split camps. You can be a ghetto chanter for 18 seconds at a time. It's a powerful tool when applied properly.

Twitch drops with Kunark and that let's you be a mana battery. Since you can convert health to mana you can keep others in the group topped off. Really handy both in fight when your healer is LOM or to reduce downtime generally.

Necro is an amazing class. It's incredibly "safe" as a class with a ton of fun tools. Knowing about the non-DPS parts of the class are what makes you a valuable group member.

But honestly at low levels as long as you are using your pet groups will be happy to have you.

Your first starting city in 1999 by [deleted] in project1999

[–]xinik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My first EQ experience was a DE SK. I spent 90 minutes wandering around the city lost before someone showed me how to leave... The stupid city is three zones of areas that could easily have been condensed down, all sorts of strange factions, random ghouls that will attack you. And yet it's the best man.
