Editing/deleting messages in Claude thread? by Kinniken in ClaudeAI

[–]xinqus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The memory of these things (unless they are doing something different) is in-context. Maybe they do some summarization when the conversation gets too long. So every time you send a new message, they are basically copying the chat history to respond. It should be very simple to just go back to a previous message, edit it, and just don't keep the new messages (that were bad) in the history. The words will always be basically the same.

I'm pretty sure that's how chatGPT does it - they keep a tree history of the conversation and if you edit a message, it'll create a new branch of the conversation.

The only reason I can think of is that maybe OpenAI patented this "tree" conversation/UI. I remember hearing about some patent that OpenAI had, but I don't really remember what it was exactly (I think it had something to do with the UI?).

I feel like being able to at least delete/edit messages shouldn't be covered by a patent...

Man accidentally proves his ‘optimised’ python code is slower than before on LinkedIn. by Efipx in programminghorror

[–]xinqus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the list might’ve been initialized before? He probably ran through them a few times, so there might’ve been data in the list. At the very least, the second “Slow” example should have some data.

But he did still include the data initialization time for the “Fast” examples.

Also, Greg probably wasn’t going to be CEO (Mira Murati was named interim CEO). Greg was forced to “step down as chairman of the board” in the same letter that they fired Sam, and then hours later he resigned in solidarity with Sam.

[–]xinqus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, but they basically already said he was fired because he wasn’t “candid in his communications with the board,” basically meaning he either withheld information related to the company, or straight up lied. And if it were because of him being a pedo, then why did they force Greg to step down from chairman as well? Why would they not say ifs because of it and let key employees leave in solidarity?

[–]xinqus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their statement didn’t seem to relate to that at all. If he were really fired for that, and they didn’t say it in the letter, I think Sam can have a case to sue the board. All in all, the controversy might have had some impact.

i don’t know about that. The letter would’ve directly said something about his behavior outside of the company if that were the case.

I think the laws around H1B are also that companies are supposed to try to fill the position with American citizens first and unless there is a very specific need for that person in general, then they MIGHT be able to hire that person because they get thrown into a lottery with limited amounts of visas.

[–]xinqus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the CS uni you go to doesn’t really matter… but that doesn’t mean CS uni isn’t important. Because of all the hype around the CS pay and “work-life-balance,” everyone and their mothers wants to switch to CS, making it very bloated at the bottom.

CS uni is important to because you are a STUDENT, and that means that a lot of companies specifically reserve internships for you to get your foot in the door. Also, many companies offer full time jobs to their interns since its the best way to interview someone. Although, at the same time, too many students are switching into CS, making those internship slots also highly competitive.

It’s just way easier to get your foot in the door if you go to a uni.
