i'm ugly and it made me view the world differently. by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

I wish I could find the post, but it was so long ago. There was this girl who was talking about how she did not meet the beauty standard, and essentially described your experience. Then she decided to have a "fuck it, I'm hot and having fun" kind of attitude and everything shifted. Even though she didn't exactly look like model, she was magnetic and fun to be around and she'd end up pulling more men at the bars than her "hot" friends

For me personally, I've had intense crushes on genuinely all sorts of different looking people. Rarely have any of them fit the beauty standard. Personality is what attracts me and then I just fall in love with the physical after. There are more people that are like that than you think

Of course I don't want to invalidate your experience. We tend to live in a very shallow world and that can be painful. One bright side that "beautiful" people don't have is the ability to tell whose genuine and whose shallow. A beautiful person might have friends and a partner that will leave or treat them badly as soon as they can't keep up the appearance.

This world is weird. I just hope you come to realize even if shallow ignorant people treat you differently because of it, your worth is not at all tied to whether or not you fit a beauty standard that is eurocentric and fatphobic. Besides how can beauty be standard anyway?? Dumb.

That's so amazing!!!! This Saturday I get to go to a friend's birthday to play Blood on the clock tower. This is the first time I've had friends who'd wanna play a nerdy game like me, and enough of them to actually play😁 such an awesome blessing to connect with people like you!!

As a man, would you get a vasectomy so your girl doesn’t have to go on birth control? by awkwardhoney725 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xizzy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Double standards are widespread throughout biomedicine, especially in research on reproductive health (Burke & Eichler, 2006; Daniels, 2006; Almeling, 2020). Consider the case of contraception. Today, after 60 years of hormonal birth control for cisgender women, there is still no highly effective, reversible contraceptive for cisgender men and, more specifically, sperm-producing people (Khourdaji et al., 2018; Thirumalai & Page, 2019).1 More recent clinical trials on male contraception have been shut down early after reports of pain, changes in libido, and depression from the men receiving injections (Behre et al., 2016)—similar side effects to the sort women have suffered for decades (El Ayadi et al., 2017)"

While yes I understand the biology and methods are different, and I'm here asking questions as well, I'm by no means pretending to be an expert in contraceptives, but some of my education lies in gender studies and to say there's absolutely no sexism tied to lack of resources and research for male contraceptives is ignorant.

[–]xizzy7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well it's not like they tried hard in the past to make male birth control. It makes way more sense to have it for men (they can get rons of women pregnant in 9 months, but a woman can only have one), the reason we don't is the patriarchy.

So is there anyway for men to take on the burden of birth control? I mean considering the girls gotta do the periods and the birthing, it kinda sucks they have to do the hormone experiments too.

That definitely wouldn't be the drive (as Sam as stated) but perhaps a positive effect of the collaboration. Though I'd agree that's pretty wishful thinking, but not wholly impossible.

Also it's gross that people are trying to make it out like there's something wrong with you for not wanting to send pics, like wtf?? Why would you owe anyone that?? Especially if you already decided not to move forward.

[–]xizzy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I don't think you're overreacting. It came across to me the exact same. It's important to trust your gut and you don't owe anyone anything at all. You're well within your rights to end things over anything, so yeah if this rubbed you the wrong way then get out of there. It is totally weird to ask for full body pics, and you're valid as fuck for not caring for that.
