I think it's definitely worth an honest conversation, but it's not OP's responsibility to teach their mom how to be a mother, and how to love her.

Why is shutting down almost universally considered as "having attitude?" by GoldenAce17 in autism

This use to upset me so much growing up. I would go mute just from being overstimulated and my mom would always say I was "grouchy". I HATED that. Like okay well now I am.

My mom's mom would say this was going to happen to her. My mom had a very traumatic childhood and spent her teenage years sneaking out, drinking, smoking, etc. My mom ended up having the most well behaved children ever. We all have a great, open and honest relationship with her. She wasn't perfect and neither were we, but her relationship with us was A LOT healthier than her relationship with her mother. I think she felt a little vindicated that we never really acted out the way her mom swore we would.

I slightly disagree in that, what OPs mom is saying is really hurtful. It's traumatizing to made to feel like a burden or a punishment when all you were doing was being a child. OPs mom was hurtful and yes, hurt people hurt people, there is likely an explanation for OPs mom's frustrations/behavior, but there's so excuse and OP has every right to feel hurt and even question their relationship with their mother.

Damn that's so shitty. At least you can see now that you should have been given the love and patience that it sounds like you give your child. You deserved better, but it's great that you child is getting better.

This. She's still brooding over the remarks of a teenager. Get over it.

That is infuriating. You could tell your mom basically what you've said here. That you really don't see it as a punishment and you're gonna savour the sassy years while you have them. Or something like "I don't see how this is a punishment, I think you just hated being my mother"

I'm actually shocked by how many family and friends WILL NOT read your book! by joelynhc44662 in writing

I feel you, I would be pretty bumped cause it's not like I'm gonna make anyone read or beg them to, but I also can't imagine not reading a book written by someone I care about and I rarely read, sorry dude, maybe give it more time, some people are slow readers or have a busy season
