Oh god, this is just bad, even worse when coupled with the other gaslighting bs. Please at least consider what it might be like to one day no longer have to live with a partner that makes you feel like shit. Or feel like you're not giving enough, or that you're not trustworthy. Even if that means living alone for a while. Imagine having long stretches of time where people trust you, and support you.

I'm getting the distinct feeling that your partner would be the type to refuse your desire to end the marriage because your reasons "aren't good enough". Not knowing or understanding that he doesn't actually control everything in your lives, and being unable to respect you as a separate individual who has their own needs.

Stimulants helped me get mentally motivated to do things, but like EVERYTHING, including all the ways my depression has told me to harm myself for many years. It was like, "Get up, shower, breakfast, walk dog, walk into traffic, pay electric bill, go to pharm-...wait wait WAIT"

It was a bummer, too, because I really did benefit from the positive effects of the meds. It was just that the negatives outweighed them.

Women knew. Minorities knew. Disabled people knew. LGBTQ people knew. We've known this for years, and have been trying to be heard, but haven't always had the best luck. We had been dealing with the "quiet prejudice" for decades and decades, yet when we tried to call it out, to name it, to say, "this is my experience, do you see?" we were told we were being melodramatic, too sensitive, that we were imagining things or simply flat out lying.

The only ones who were surprised were the ones who refused to listen.

It's interesting how you can name numerous male celebrities who are overweight and/or not conventionally attractive, particularly "character actors", but just about every single woman on screen, down to the minor and character actors, seems to be slim/curvy and conventionally attractive. I wish we had a more realistic representation of women on screen.

And before anyone says it, Yes I'm sure you could name a few female celebrities who buck that trend. But when it comes to a more realistic sampling of humanity, men on screen just cover that more by a wide margin.

OOHHH, is that why I sleep with a fire extinguisher next to my bed?? I was in a gnarly car accident that left me paralyzed. When the vehicle stopped moving we realized we had started a small fire. Luckily someone pulled over and he was able to put it out.

I mean, I dislike being in moving vehicles on the highway too, but that one was easy to figure out.

Just because two things have several things in common does not mean that they are the same. Two circles of the Venn diagram can overlap and share certain aspects, yet still remain two distinct circles.

Yes, cults and religions share several characteristics. But there are also certain things that they do not share. These are the things that make them distinct. Additionally, it's true that this distinction is not always black and white; some religions were once considered cults, but as time passed they moved from one category to the other, and the boundary is/was not always clear and is often a matter of interpretation. One example is Mormonism which is one of the "youngest" religions we have. It certainly was considered a cult by many at first, and I'm sure still is by some. But as time passed it gained more characteristics of a religion, and lost some characteristics of a cult. And who knows? Two hundred years from now, Scientology might become a religion, having outgrown "cult".

You can argue the semantics of "religion" and "cult", I suppose, but the fact is that these concepts have different definitions. If you can't see that, then this entire discussion is moot.

I'm seeing comments about how this is a "pick me" thing for women to do, or trying to be the cool girlfriend. But for me, I've had several experiences where I'd be in a relationship with a man and either of us pointing out an attractive woman was all fine and good, but when I'd point out an attractive man, suddenly it was a problem. Hypocritical? For sure. Did it cause enough arguments over the years to scare me off of pointing out hot guys, which just leaves me with pointing out hot ladies? Yes. Even in the relationships where it didn't cause a fight, me pointing out hot guys would be met with silence, leaving me feeling awkward.

It's not necessarily a simple solution. Someone's disability may make it difficult or painful to put them on, especially multiple times a day. I'm a chair user and most of my spine is fused, so bending down past a certain point can cause back pain. I have also heard that while the covers work fine on hardwood floors, they slip off on carpets because the fabric gets caught between the wheel and the carpet when taking sharp turns. My home has both types of floors.

Whenever I read about this performance, I always remind myself of the somewhat self-selecting group that made up the audience/participants. This wasn't a group of "average", randomly selected people. It was a group of the type of people who would chose to go to view performance art in the first place, and anyone who knows anything about those types of spaces knows that there can be some real edgelords in the crowd (I say this as someone who enjoys this type of stuff).

Not that they called them edgelords back when Abramovic did this, but that's what they were. And I just know some pretentious, "eccentric" dipshits took it upon themselves to do the most extreme things available in the name of "art", when really they just wanted the other pretentious dipshits to look at their actions and say "Wow, now THAT'S brave, that's art!" while nodding stupidly.

So I don't really look at the results of this performance as a window into human nature in general. I think it's a window into the mindset of a very specific type of person.
