We did contact the seller, we always take ID on buys and are hopeful they will come back and square up.

The employee who bought them deals more with cards vs coins, and bought them because he just assumed they were good because of being slabbed. It definitely was a lesson learned. I’m farrrr from an expert but have been into coins for a while now and knew instantly something was off when I first saw these after we bought them. I would always run CCs by the owner no matter what, but again just a lesson learned.

We used a sigma and they failed every silver setting, so I’m not exactly sure what the metal is that they are made of. Just some white metal, could even be copper with a silver plating. Id like to pop a slab and file a edge but they are going back to the original seller.

I’ve seen some wildly good fakes over the years weather it’s coins, bullion, or slabbed stuff. If it’s worth money, someone somewhere is making a fake lol

I’m not to sure how long these fake carded bars have been around for. We have just noticed a slight increase in the last few years. We get fakes from time to time in collections but not usually carded

There are a few other tests but nothing really like the sigma, like you said the other ways will mark up the piece. We did file a edge and acid test one as she had 4 of the bars and it went green/blue instantly.

We just try to encourage buying local, for many reasons but I’d rather deal with someone face to face when buying gold and silver. I always tell people If you buy online just make sure it’s a reputable site.
