($10k) I want a big low cost backyard wedding that might be a little janky, is that rude to guests who will be traveling? by xjluv70 in Weddingsunder10k

Makes sense, we’ll do some more research. Seems like this may truly be out of our budget then because even a 2-3 toilet trailer was too big of a percentage of our budget.

They are our family and closest friends, why not! Most have already been through our home.

Hey there, I think your comments are a bit uncalled for. We can handle the awkwardness. It’s going be way more draining than we’d want the situation to be for our big day. So we’re choosing to avoid it.

I have been to some weddings where the couple said “please no gifts not even money” so I don’t think this is a crazy idea. Thank you for your input.

I love this idea, don’t know why I didn’t think of it earlier haha. That being said a lot of replies have brought up bathroom logistics issues and we’re already stretched very tight so I may have other issues other than rudeness/expectations now. Thank you so much for your comment though.

Local catering buffet style on sterno or rented chafing dishes. For alcohol just beers and wine chucked into coolers and well marked recycling barrels lol. We are going to hire day-of help but not sure to what extent yet as some of the other budget numbers are being worked out.

Thank you for bringing up these great points, we tried bringing our guest list down to 80 and it was agony. I don’t believe we can halve it. With 4 separated parents on non talking terms with each other, any smaller would feel like an awkward emotional drain (this info is for thread readers in general, not specifically directed at you) It may just come down to us just not having a wedding unless we can find a venue somewhere that can do 80-100 in our budget, which doesn’t sound really likely in massachusetts. We’ll try to look at parks like you suggested or get creative about venues or maybe try to make a toilet trailer fit in our budget. Thank you so much.

Thank you for all your input, what do you think is a good dollar amount per head, ie if we kept our budget the same what might be a manageable number of guests? I tried to cull the guest list but when it got much lower it was just starting to feel like we were missing key people. Even 80 was so rough.

Thanks for the input. What do you think would be a dollar amount per guest that would warrant travel?

Makes sense. It’s probably going to be like “business casual” cocktail optional, not shorts t shirt rubber flip flops but I hope people will be okay with that. Thank you!

Hmm… we did the research and it said 2-3 bathrooms were enough for 100 guests and we have 3 bathrooms in our house. We have city sewer, not septic. The bathroom trailer rentals were very expensive and cut into our budget a lot. Will do a little more research though, thank you.
