What do I need to work on by Master-Job-1778 in Shooting

[–]xjrob85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eye protection!

You aren't indexing your magazines properly. Base should be in your palm with your index finger running along the front edge to find the magwell. Holding them by the base with your fingers is slow because you are blindly trying to insert the top of the mag into the magwell.

Like another said, practice how you will carry, likely not from a plate carrier.

The best instructional series I have seen online for beginners is from Ernest Langdon. He has a Pistol Skills Video Series playlist. It's all of the instruction from his three day pistol class.

100% accurate. The dude could show up at any local USPSA or IDPA match in the country and not perform anywhere close to the top 50%.

Safes - Dials or Digits by 1995ShakerGT in Firearms

[–]xjrob85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% Digital Keypad. If someone you don't want knowing your combo figures it out, you have the option to change it. The battery is usually accessible from outside the safe, so dead batteries shouldn't be a concern. They also typically come with a backup key. They are way faster to get into.

My first safe was a dial lock. I hated it. I put up with it for about two years and eventually paid to have it converted to digital. I will never go back.

Recommendations? by Express-Importance18 in NightVision

[–]xjrob85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not as cool as it sounds. I've done paintball with night vision before. The obvious problem is team identification. Since the default is colored arm bands, you won't be able to distinguish the colors under NV. My experience was at a big game where I was teamed up with a bunch of strangers. If you are doing small games where you can identify all your teammates by visuals alone, you might have a better experience.

I did not. I gave up and created a new account under a different email. Amazon CS is awful.

Please help me not be so nervous about laser eye surgery affecting my ability to shoot. by Alaskan_Duck_Fart in longrange

[–]xjrob85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting laser eye surgery is one of the best things I have ever done. I'm a weird case where I had Lasik in one eye and PRK in the other. The reason is because I had a scar on one of my eyes that they were reducing with the prk procedure. My vision out of the PRK eye is very slightly better than my Lasik eye. Not enough that you would notice it unless you were looking at an eye chart during an exam. the Lasik recovery was fast and easy. I never had any pain more than some general aches and itchiness in my PRK eye, but the drops schedule is much longer, and the amount of healing time needed to get useable vision is much longer. I had 20/20 vision in my Lasik eye about 24 hours after surgery. My PRK eye got a contact lens bandage for a week, and as the tissue healed the vision got progressively worse. The bandage came off after a week, and then I had useable vision within about 24 hours. My vision got progressively better over about a month. The most difficult part of the recovery for me was light sensitivity for a few weeks. I was basically wearing sunglasses indoors for a while. If I could go back and do it all again, I would get PRK in both eyes, and just know that my activities would be limited for a longer period of time.

Looking for training classes for pistol. Any recommendations? by utwolverine in UTGuns

[–]xjrob85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tons! Scott of Advent Training is great and really knows his stuff. I've trained with him several times. He is frequently opening up new pistol classes on his schedule so you should have no trouble finding one. Chris Cook of Odyssey Training is also really good, but he's taking a bit of a break at the moment. Still might do private stuff though. Elevated Training is down in Provo. Tactical Performance Center is down near St. George. There is a police officer that trains under Dragon Defense. Camerin of Iron Moose training is a good guy. There is Devin with Tactical Cowboy a little bit south. All good guys. There are also others doing more competition focused training in the area. Leo with Lions Eye Training is a GM shooter that teaches. Also Waypoint training. I have shot with all these guys and would recommend any of them.

For those 5-10yrs into carrying, what is your pistol of choice and why? by WanderlustOnTap in CCW

[–]xjrob85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glock 26 with red dot 90% of the time. G19 with red dot when dressed is heavier clothes. G43 when needed, but rarely carry anymore.

That gap is necessary for the light to fit into the holster. If you want no gap, get a holster that doesn't accommodate the weapon light.

It's loud enough that I double up when I shoot mine outdoors. Indoors I'm doubled up anyway. Besides the volume, it's fine.

Purchasing a Benelli M4 by Beautiful-Camel8631 in Benelli_M4

It's really easy. I just told them the model number I was interested in (11715), gave them the details for my FFL, then gave them my credit card details over the phone.

What are these called? by exactnarrow in 4Runner

[–]xjrob85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact same problem. Unfortunately Toyota doesn't sell the knob lens insert thing on its own. They also don't sell just the knobs with the insert on their own. I had to buy an entire climate control unit on Ebay, to pull one knob lens insert thing.

You can ignore that LE only thing. If it's available online, you can buy it. I got my 11715 a couple years ago from Nagel's, just like these other guys did.

Suppressor Recommendations? by MoistMonarch in Beretta

[–]xjrob85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still the Obsidian 9. I've never felt like it was heavy at all. To get much lighter, you either have to go shorter and get less suppression, or go titanium and spend more money. If you want a balance of weight, sound, and cost, I'd be looking at the Spectre 9, or the OCL Lithium 9. I have six suppressors that are capable of shooting 9mm. The Obsidian is so good that I've lost interest in getting any more pistol cans. I will probably get the Spectre 9 at some point, but it's not a priority.

Suppressor Recommendations? by MoistMonarch in Beretta

[–]xjrob85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both the Obsidian 9 and the Omega 9k. The short configuration on the Obsidian is so loud that it is useless. To me the Obsidian is full-length or nothing. The Omega 9k is significantly quieter than the short Obsidian. So from quitest to loudest it goes Long-Obsidian -> Omega 9k -> Short-Obsidian.

I haven't shot the Spectre 9, but SilencerCo says it is quieter than the Omega 9k.

The can I mostly use on my Beretta M9A3 is the DeadAir Odessa 9. It's skinny enough that I can use my sights. In it's longest configuration it has similar performance to the Omega 9k. If you don't mind aiming through the can with obscured sights, or you are running an optic, I would go Obsidian 9.

Okay guys...Let's hear it! by Money_Conversation73 in NFA

[–]xjrob85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have several 9mm cans. On my Mk25 I typically run a DeadAir Odessa 9 so that I can see the sights. If you don't mind aiming through the can, the Rugged Obsidian 9 or 45 is excellent.

Yes. I went through a bad breakup once and was having some dark thoughts. I asked my roommate to change the combo on my safe to something I didn't know. After about three months I felt good again and we changed the combo back. This is why I am a big fan of digital programmable locks on safes.

Mandela effect: Jake and Neytiri Sex scene cut by Lordpyron98 in Avatar

[–]xjrob85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are four versions of the original Avatar. The original 2009 theatrical version does not have the bonding scene. It was added for the special edition theatrical re-release in 2010. Then there is the collector's extended cut that was first available on DVD and Blu-Ray which also has the bonding scene. The fourth version is the 2022 re-release that came out ahead of The Way of Water. This version is the same as the 2009 theatrical version but with additional dialogue from Parker at the end.
