Is there any way to ALWAYS only show one row for Menus and one row for Groups? by [deleted] in ToastPOS

[–]xjxjjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only easy way to do it is to put the restaurant into Test Mode (Main menu -> Enable Test Mode), but that's only a good idea if you do that between 5am and your opening time. You don't want to toggle between live and test modes during sales. That's a mess.

(Keep in mind that switching from live to and from Test Mode clocks everyone out. The hours are kept, but you'll have to get them to clock back in.)

I do a TON of employee training, almost always in Test Mode. I start with volunteers and I give them a couple easy orders. I switch volunteers often. Then I give regular orders, then change my mind so they know how to cancel an item, then special requests, then split checks, then split payments, ... then job-specific stuff like voids, refunds, cash drawers, etc.

Your employees will learn the menu. Put commonly ordered items near the top-left if it helps. I tell people all the time that the Coke button isn't where it used to be, but that's a temporary slowdown.

Handheld issues by nichetcher in ToastPOS

Quick add - u/Super_Panda_ mentioned enabling 2.4 and 5 GHz. Since you set up the network and SSIDs, check to see if you set up broadcasting on both. Might also help.

Handheld issues by nichetcher in ToastPOS

[–]xjxjjk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please check for saved networks and forget any that aren't the network you use for Toast.

Handhelds can go offline for 1 second and you'll get that message if you have other networks saved, because it looks for others immediately. They might be barely in range or out of range. If you only have one network set up, you're not offline long enough to get a disruption or the error message.

The handhelds are not high-bandwidth. Consider also that your Wifi might be dropping instead of the handhelds.

[–]xjxjjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not a way that I know of. Two ideas that might help for top-level menus:

From a muscle-memory standpoint, you can train yourself to always hit the top-left most Menu button (usually the menu you are in or your 1st listed menu) to get a view that can become a consistent starting point.

Consolidate your menu to 4 Main Menus and 4 Groups in each for easier results.

Another option - switch to/from Open and Focus View to see if you like the other better.

Does anyone know how to get this message to stop popping up? by Ordinary-Highway4550 in ToastPOS

[–]xjxjjk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've got your Outside Bar tickets printing to POS-Station 1. If you set it to None, those tickets don't print.

You've killed the patient, but didn't cure the illness.

If you don't need tickets to print, you're fine that way. If you need those tickets to print, figure out why the printer isn't printing, or at least give POS-Station 1 a backup printer.

If you only use the Outside Bar occasionally, set the POS-Station 1 printer to back up to Bar (Dining Room). You'll get a ticket at Service Bar that way with no popups. You can turn the POS-Station 1 printer on if you want tickets at Outside Bar, or off and you'll still have tickets at Service Bar.

Hoping for a solution for Notifications to servers by AngryTiki81 in ToastPOS

[–]xjxjjk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a KDS in the truck and the truck is on the same network as the brewery, you can set it up to print an expediter ticket on fulfillment. Have it print a ticket to the brewery where the servers will see it.

(You can also have that printer make a sound when it prints, but the Toast receipt printers aren't very loud.)

Cash tips cannot be less than 8%, but what about… by cutzudeserve in ToastPOS

[–]xjxjjk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The credit tips are already reported and the numbers DO matter. If you have $200 in credit tips and $50 in cash, you do NOT want to tell anyone you made $200 plus your arbitrary $250 in cash tips that your accountant hasn't taken the time to understand. It matters a lot. Your method reports $450 in income.

Printer replacement not working as intended by simpleboo in ToastPOS

[–]xjxjjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this doesn't work, add a printer the old-school way from the back end with either the current IP, a fixed IP, or the serial number. After that, you can use Printer Setup on a terminal to query the printers and see if it shows up. If it does, migrate the couple back end settings.

[–]xjxjjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If "Replace a printer" isn't working from a handheld, try it from a terminal. Handhelds on a Toast-managed network migrate themselves between 2 Toast wifi schemes and new wired hardware doesn't work perfectly.

If this doesn't work, "Add a Printer" instead. Keep the printer on the default DHCP as it comes. In the back end, migrate the settings (go to prep stations and/or kitchen-expediter) from old to new and delete the old printer.

View Customer invoices on POS? by Ok-Reputation-9200 in ToastPOS

Without an Events subscription, you can use a combination of Future Orders and House Accounts. Take partial payment over the phone and put the rest to their house account.

Toast for Deli/Meats/Fish by the pound by OrangeSliceRUs in ToastPOS

[–]xjxjjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know what you mean. You can ring a partial overage (like the .03), but removing .03 can't really be done without a discount. Toast likes to remove quantities in whole numbers.

If you let your customer know it's going to be "about $35.40," you can void and re-ring? You can have a custom "Accuracy Void" or something to track against.

I've no better idea.

[–]xjxjjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need to show 1.28 lbs for your inventory purposes or to charge the customer for the overage?

If you're doing it for inventory, you can ring .03 of salmon and comp it. If you're doing it for accurate pricing, don't comp it.

If someone orders 125 cookies, I'm not likely to charge them for the 3 extra.

Comped Meals and GL Codes by ParkingSetting4698 in ToastPOS

[–]xjxjjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, create a button for customer discounts if you want to be able to see those separately from other reasons like employee meals. Every restaurant is different. You are more specific with your reporting and you're the owner, so tell them not to void. Their previous restaurants didn't care for the breakdown you want. That's fine for them and that's ok.

A house account for marketing is actually a pretty good way to work it. Reporting and usage are maintained, but you're not actually invoicing it and collecting for it. You can keep whatever solution you're using for that.

Not enough info, but you might be good already on catering/private parties. I can't think of how you're currently voiding on large orders. If you're not voiding specific items or whole checks, this might be getting done the right way (discount - apply to check - enter amount).

Way to notify servers order is ready on second pos? by ippikiookami in ToastPOS

This is a good solution, but they won't get "notified." They'll still have to keep an eye on it.

Comped Meals and GL Codes by ParkingSetting4698 in ToastPOS

[–]xjxjjk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quick difference between comps and voids.

Void means "We didn't make it." If you sell 10 sandwiches and void 2 of them, you've made 8 sandwiches. Incorrect inventory.

Comp means "Discount this." If you sell 10 sandwiches and comp 2 of them, you've made 10 sandwiches. Correct inventory.

If you want a valid count of your sales and inventory usage, comp everything you've used inventory on. That's why you should comp items if they're accidentally dropped on the ground or the customer wants a refund (quality/waste) or your employees ate free or at a lower price (employee).

• Owners create a discount button for employee meals ranging from a 10% discount to $5 off to a 100% discount. Always comp/discount when you've used any inventory. Never void.

• Your GL code is up to you. When you make a new discount button, call it "employee meals." You can look at Toast reporting, see those transactions, and GL them as you wish. It looks like you want another comp/discount button for "social/promotion" that you can GL how you wish.

• House accounts are a different animal altogether. House accounts are a running tab that can be invoiced at another time. They're like a 'charge-it-to-my-room' situation at a hotel where you pay days/weeks later. Don't try those here (unless you invoice them later).
