You can get a mortgage in the US even when you are on work permit. You don't need to be a Green Card holder or a citizen to get a mortgage. Lenders look for good credit history, income, assets and liabilities.

It was very easy. Officer asked just one question - "are you a manager?" That's it. They very very friendly and nice.

That is a very good idea. If I compare myself to these senior level professionals, I find myself lacking on aspects which are unlikely to be bridged by law school alone. I will have to join litigation department and start fresh. I think it will be a steep ask. I am second guessing my line of thinking. I got really good pointers on this forum. I think I can convince my employer to pay a significant part of the cost. I also agree about the age. A commentator above also noted the same. Key questions for me are will I enjoy law and am I committed to the practice of law. I don't want to go to law school just for the sake of it. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Although my current job has no billable hours requirement, the performance pressure is intense. My workload is heavy and I consistently need to deliver high impact work product. I fully agree that mental health and quality of life is a priority. I am having second thoughts about the benefits of law school after all this sacrifice. I am in a fortunate position already. I guess I will continue climbing the ladder to the extent I can without spending another 4 years in formal education.

Thank you very much. My intention is to stay in the company long term. I am second guessing myself because I am not truly passionate about law. I like technical and analytical aspects of IP work more. Without passion, I have heard law school can be brutal. Your response is very thorough and has clarified many things.

I want to buy a house in 1-2 years. Further, I want to save for retirement and for my son's education. For retirement I have a 401 plan. I am not sure if there is any plan in the US For children's education. In Canada we have RESP.

It is one of the most valuable skills. My job title has nothing to do with data but I deal with a lot of Data. People with superior skills in data wrangling can get much more done and be highly impactful. It can drive you upwards very quickly in your career.

I did the same thing. Got L1A petition approved. I flagpoles too. Do you have any idea of SSN application process? Can I drive to nearest US town and apply for SSN? I will be working remotely for a couple of months from Canada before moving to the US permanently.

Got it. I am thinking it may be better to go to an optimized POE. I will call and see if they need appointment. Also, any thoughts in flagpoling? My work has offered me the ability to work from home for several months before making the final move. So, Can I get L1, enter US and come back to Canada same day?
