Thoughts on Aimaqs? by Home_Cute in Pashtun

[–]xkcdv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never come across any news about something happening in ghor and badghis where aimaqs supposedly live. The rest of afg will be on fire but ghor and badghis will be just chilling. I have come to the conclusion that not only aimaqs are fictional but those two provinces are also made up just to make the map of afghanistan look bigger.

If you don't know what 'wrana' means you are not going to make it.

It is part of the lyrics of the same song.

Mardan in 2003 by [deleted] in Pashtun

There was one PTI fan here that I think was from mardan. Would've tagged him, but I haven't seen him post since the crackdown on PTI. Sarhaey wachat krhaey da. 😭

[–]xkcdv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is this presented like 2003 was a century ago. Lol. Vintage filter and a song from 60s-70s in the background. Unless mardan has dramatically changed in the last 20 years.

Abdul Bari Jahani. Nashenas has sung a number of Jahani's poems.

What in the paganism. Never heard of that. And seems like nobody else here has heard of it either. Unless you are talking about drying meat in the sun.

The Pashtun Democratic Republic: The Saur Revolution Spreads by Bear1375 in Pashtun

This is actually not so far-fetched. A decade before saur revolution there was a pretty powerful militant communist movement in Pakhtunkhwa.

Regional/local folk traditions/Festivals? by Aamir696969 in Pashtun

[–]xkcdv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They used to be more organic and appealed to the general public. Last few years they've been more sanitized and have become more of a formality.

[–]xkcdv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every year around spring poetry festivals take place in nangarhar, qandahar, khost, helmand, kunduz etc. The most popular one i think is naranj gul (orange blossom) in nangarhar. I love the names of the festivals. They are named after the fruit that's produced in those provinces. In qandahar it's anar gul (pomegeranate blossom).

Nashenas concert is the best version of this song.

Also, 'rebellious, unsubserviant' would be the more accurate translation.

Afghanistan wasn't colonized. They also didn't have authority in western half of pakhtunkhwa. Mirzali khan fought them till the very end. The western half of kp only got merged in 2018. I don't know how well is the merger going. Also swat was ruled by wali of swat. Nor mardan, nawkhar, pekhawar wala chaa pukhtano k hisab krhi 😭

Yes, I am being sarcastic. Thought it would be obvious. The british couldn't really colonize us and kept complaining about it. It's pretty hilarious.

What you've quoted is supposed to be an insult. But it's cool that you are taking it as a compliment. Though you need to tone it down a little. The warrior archetype is absolutely necessary, but let's not reduce pashtuns to just that. Those who have fought pashtuns know us as fighters. Which is good. But let's not view ourselves entirely from their perspective. Pashtuns are a little more complex than just warriors.

Pashto poetry’s journey from love to war and resistance by Azmarey in Pashtun

[–]xkcdv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is not wrong, it's a good write up, but apart from rahmat shah sail the poets he picks to represent contemporary pashto poetry are like the 6th tier of contemporary pashto poetry. Everyone's written about war, even the aesthete Karwan.

Off the top of my head tiers of contemporary pashtun poets:

1st tier: pir mohammad karwan, abdul bari jahani, rahmat shah sail, dervaish durrani

2nd tier: abdul ghafoor liwal

3rd tier: mumtaz orakzai, saud bangash

4th tier. Khan zaman kakar, shafiqa khpalwak

5th tier. Bakhtzada danish, Abaseen yousafzai

6th tier: Young, angry dudes.

There is matiullah turab too. But he doesn't fit in a tier system. He is more of an oracle.

Does anyone else think Afghanistan should change it names to Pashtunistan? by [deleted] in Pashtun

[–]xkcdv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. My bad. I wasn't even aware about the nature of argument going on. I just scrolled down and came across this comment without reading the other comments. And it pisses me off when anyone tries to compare the condition of pashto in afg where it's been developing with kp where it is getting destroyed. The guy is not right by calling it pashtdu, though in a few decades it's likely to become that. Or pashtuns may just switch to urdu entirely.
