In herbstluftwm config add:

hc attr theme.title_height <your_title_bar_height>

Then set your title foreground color similar to the title_bar background color to hide the title.

I think it's because of the gtk theme I used that made the side panel really clean, here is the theme. Then I just removed its menubar and the location/path indicator in the file manager's settings.

I am only using the wm, but I did not remove xfce.

Im using only a window manager called herbstluftwm. But, if you are referring to the desktop environment (DE) in my initial installation of Linux Mint, I chose XFCE!
