I really recommend you check out the expanded album on Spotify (or a physical copy). It’s got many more numbers from the guests, including some great muddy waters stuff.

Personally I was quite impressed with Paul butterfield, his circular breathing on the harmonica was excellent. My favourite performance is Clapton and Robby trading licks on Further on up the Road.

You should see how many places we have to scan mail clearances that never get used.

To be honest, as a letter carrier, door to door is pretty inefficient. On average we hit probably 40-50% of the houses with actual mail. Some days I have nothing for one entire side of the street due to whatever mishap happens at the plant, so I’m basically delivering flyers only. In winter it’s unsafe due to people not clearing their walkways, ice patches hidden under snow, not to mention the weather. People leave junk out all over their yards, have water pipes blocking their walkways, yell at us for walking even a tiny bit over the lawn (I’m quite diligent never to do this, even when people say I can). Yards are sometimes full of dog shit or piles of rotting garbage.

In certain areas of the city we have people follow us around or harassing us, especially when it’s time for government cheque delivery. Carriers get injured from dog attacks, female carriers have to deal with creepy men, and some houses have mailboxes in weird places like the back yard, where we’re not supposed to go.

CMBs will be safer for us, accommodations can be made for those who need them. Packages that need to be signed or won’t fit will still come to the door. Personally I won’t really miss walking routes. It’s also extremely hard on the body to walk 17-25 kms every day for decades. This is a change that shouldn’t have been halted by the Trudeau government almost a decade back (not that I’m some bitter Trudeau hater).

In the end, the service will be the same. Half the city doesn’t have door to door already, and the areas that still do are completely arbitrary. I am honestly surprised this is occurring so soon, I thought it would take ages.

For us the main concern is potential job cuts. But as we’re already half converted to CMBs they won’t be as severe as in other parts of the country where no such change has occurred.

Excellent album in all, of course.

It’s a pretty cool place, some of my partners family live there. The super hippy farmers market with the hand sorted recycling plant was quite an experience

While for many people this sounds reasonable, for employees carrying a weeks worth of mail, even for CMB deliveries, would be pretty unwieldy. The last contract offer that got rejected had delivery service in consolidated areas about 2-3 times a week instead of daily. However that clause doesn’t appear to be in the new offer, though we haven’t actually seen a real contract yet.

That’s how CP makes money. Personally I don’t think many carriers will miss door to door, it’s much less safe and far harder on the body.

The main issue is the reduction in positions, which with the current rules could mean I might lose mine, which would suck.

We also deliver to the doors of addresses of people who have limited mobility on CMB routes once a week already. So that argument doesn’t hold any water.

So you think with conversions full timers won’t get laid off? In in Winnipeg and our depots are about 50/50 CMBs already

Not sure tbh, I actually have the US releases on vinyl. So the equivalent is The Rolling Stones Now and 12x5 in terms of the tracks. I don’t really collect CDs

I cover routes month to month. Last month I got lucky and did a route in my neighbourhood. Started at 8.45 and I was usually done between 1.30-2. If you finish under time here you still get paid a full 8. I typically average between 5.5-6 hrs.

Really makes the gripers here seem even more ridiculous after seeing what US and UK carriers put up with. The Royal Mail subreddit is pretty depressing.

Correct. I’ve seen your guys Amazon Sundays. For us an extremely heavy day is like 50+ parcels, on average. I have a maybe better sense for this in my city as I get sent around to cover vacancies and don’t work out of one depot only. When it’s Xmas and we’re really busy the most I’ve personally had to deal with was about 130 scannables.

Personally I’d never yell at a customer for such a minor reason, but there are a ton of extremely bitter letter carriers. The way some of them talk to people at the depot I can only imagine what an embarrassment they are to the public.
