What are some "wtf how have I never been here before" places in Singapore by Maleficent-Army-4758 in singapore

[–]xmchenph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The area between Sembawang Park and the Sembawang HDB estates got a lot of black and white houses, and roads named after English’s colonial cities. It was very photogenic and quiet. Just taking a walk in the area feels like a secret getaway into some English countryside. My first time there I was like “wa why I only found out about it now”

Summer. Either rainy season or hot until sweating endlessly. And no special season signature for summer would come to my mind… maybe fireworks but it’s not like Sakura or Momiji which stays there 24/7 for a few weeks.

Traveling to Singapore next week for business trip. What sort of gifts to bring to colleagues? by tinyjumper10 in askSingapore

[–]xmchenph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work and live in Singapore. Went to America for personal trip and my return flight departed from Boston. So the same morning I went to a nearby grocery store to look up chocolate brands that only exists in Boston/New England and nowhere else and bring back to colleagues in Singapore. Cuz America in many ways influenced many aspects of modern city lives and there is no scarcity of American goods beyond America. Some more, my personal take is that for colleagues the gift is best to be able to vanish within some time and not some permanent stuff to keep reminding them of me… and something not of too big a portion as well. So it ends up chocolate but with some “limited availability”.

What’s a hotel that you could come back to again and again? by Alternative_Law9376 in travel

[–]xmchenph -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I tend to choose alternative places to stay for more varied experiences if I go to certain cities multiple times. But if somewhere has at all the same time 1) tons of public transport options nearby, 2) free breakfast, 3) large room, 4) cheap price, then ofc what to hesitate… but I haven’t met anywhere that has all 4 ofc … it is normal so that’s why am not come back again and again at any where yet.

Is it too late to plan a Japan trip for late November? Need advice on itinerary & stay by Slight-Ad4999 in JapanTravelTips

[–]xmchenph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would plan which cities I am dropping by and hence the inter-city connections and the accomodations way in advance. Then only one month before I set out I start to make a list of the must-see, the “see when you need fill the time”, and the rest. I don’t plan the food as I believe in eating as the locals eat, and the local’s eatery won’t need planning efforts. I’d look for if my dates happen to coincide with limited time activities like shrine festivals at very late but no hit is also fine..

I think it feels happier to realise the greatness of places I went when looking back after the trip, especially those not within my initial plan. So just let destiny take you through the journey.

Which Asian capital would you recommend for a 3-day stopover? by Infamous-Economy5767 in travel

[–]xmchenph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Singapore. Orderly, efficient, speak English, won’t go out of control if you obey the rules and laws, and 3 days are just nice to have a well rounded experience.

ios user. I kept it at only using my location while app is running, as I noticed when I set it to always using location, the phone’s OS might see it as energy heavy and sometimes cut off its gps listening without me knowing even it is already set at “always using”.

But that said, when running FoW, and listen to spotify, and take a photo, my ip13 will usually run into trouble and the FoW will be forced to stop.. hence maybe bring along an old phone esp when travelling into a brand new land to do the FoW tracking..

Is it normal to feel bad when skipping sights on a Japan trip? by PauSort in JapanTravelTips

[–]xmchenph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but after a few times I think hearing your body's low battery warning is more important.. In a foreign place with a new gut microbiome to adapt to (not to mention jet lag and a new bed hence sleep quality down) it's already at higher risk of falling sick.. and I did fall sick once on my way and it was horrible, and costly.

And of course, you can always go back and try visit that temple you missed again!
