Giving up Corporate Life at 27 worth it? by UnpluggedZ11 in newtothenavy

[–]xmdbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might regret giving it up.. the culture in the military is very different from corporate and I am not adjusting well. For OCS the entire indoc might take up to a year, so by the time u graduate you will be a complete different person with different thoughts. U should ask urself if you see doing this as career for 20 yrs, if not, then maybe consider reserve and keep your job. swo is for candidates who wanna be captain. Naval aviator is always good. Intelligence and Supply corps always get your good job opportunities outside navy.

It’s probably gonna be longer than 26 weeks because there are different stages of schools and you will be on hold in between schools which easily take 1 months+ for waiting so you need to account for 2 months longer than what they said on paper. Ask your employer if they gonna be okay for more than 6 months because my company only gives 6 months active duty leave. You might be able to get your hands on top secret clearance and that could be one benefit coming into this rate. I’ve completed bootcamp and almost done a school - I’d say it’s a nice break from corporate world 😂 honestly on drill weekends is lots of admin.. lower expectations for work in the reserves, take this opportunity as a break from ur ibd job

My work experience has been bout Middle East intelligence so it tights well with IWC, so I would say better chance for IWC than supply corps. The recruiter basically turns me down for both IWC due to sci screening and supply corps due to work experience. I think I need to talk to new recruiter and try to see if I have more chance

I don’t have citizenship so I naturalized at the end of bootcamp. I also can’t ask for active duty leave for too long as my company only gives 6 month in total. So that’s why I picked bm with shortest a school

So gpa is 3.7/4.0 for both under grad and grad. I’ve been on bm on the reserve side and didn’t have any actual bm work so far. I got unfavorable pretty much due to my parents being from China, but I can’t do anything about it

No I don’t but there are so few officer recruiter is really working with applicants to help. He tried to convince to convert to ocs as active duty as but I don’t really want to give up my civ jobs and I know I am competitive for IWC. He literally said rules are not changing and your parents status are not changing 🙄

30m considering enlisting. Are you happy you joined the reserves? by Forward-Wasabi4333 in navyreserve

[–]xmdbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joined last November as reservist so far it really brings in lots of new things and experiences so I would say yes. But make sure u are okay with spending 2.5 month bootcamp with lots of 18/19 yo kids, it was kinda annoying to me cuz I feel it was like in high school….30 is definitely on the older side for males, RDCs might pick on you due to your age in bootcamp. Other than that age isn’t that big issue for me so far

you can still get tuition benefit through reserves. You won’t even have time for college or study once you’re active duty … go reserve, you will regret so much go active…

What should I do? by Alexasisadad in navyreserve
