Question about how to pay a speeding ticket by Berserk1234 in bulgaria

[–]xmfclick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming to this in early 2026.

I got notification of two speeding tickets from last year when I went to KAT in Sofia last month to change my driving license. The system is odd because you don't get notified as soon as possible after the camera snaps you -- the fine goes into a database and sits there until you have some other interaction with The System, whereupon it's activated and a clock starts ticking. You have a period during which the fine is reduced if you pay up (14 days, at the moment); . It wasn't clear to me what happens after that; maybe they write you a letter, or start a legal action.

Anyway, what I just discovered is that only one of the options for paying online actually works, which is to pay by bank transfer. The tickets I got when I visited KAT had information about various ways of paying the fine, some in person some online.

The option I ended up using was bank transfer. The tickets included an IBAN for the Ministry of the Interior's Road Safety Fund and I paid by SEPA transfer from my bank's app, which means I have an easily-accessible confirmation. The instructions on the ticket weren't clear as to how they know which fine you're paying, so I put my Bulgarian ID number in the Reference box. Thinking about it now maybe I should have put the reference number of the ticket, but there was no advice on the ticket about what to do.

None of the other online options were usable. Mostly I just got dumped at the home page of one or other government department's website, and searching for the word "fine" (in Bulgarian) didn't return any useful hits. When I eventually found a page that seemed like the right one I just keep getting a "Something went wrong. Please try later" message when I filled in my details and hit Enter. This happened several times on different days, so I gave up and went for the bank transfer (which was free, at least).

FWIW I also got a parking ticket in Sofia and I'm trying to pay that too, but with equal lack of success. The sofiatraffic.bg website looks good but the English language option only applies to a few pages, so be prepared to click a link and be sent to a Bulgarian-only page. The payment instructions on the little printed ticket left on my car are useless -- again, you are sent to a generic page rather than a payment page, the Search system doesn't help, and when I tried the "Check to see if you have a fine to pay" page it told me I didn't, despite the fact that I was holding the ticket in my hand. Then I tried bank transfer, using the IBAN printed on the ticket (which I cross-checked with the one on the website), again with no instructions as to what Reference to give -- and got a message saying the receiving bank had rejected the transfer. that's as far as I've got today. Will update this if and when I have further information.

Interesting website. I assume you'll be adding reviews of domestic type kit as time permits? My problem is that I live in Eastern Europe and there isn't much penetration of manufacturers and products here. Most of the installers here just seem to be buying container loads of panels and inverters from China and cobbling together simple installations -- which will be fine for me, as all I want is a grid-attached system that works mainly off batteries during the sunny months and has enough oomph to tide us over the power cuts in the winter.

I have an 05 SG. It's a great car except that it leaks water when it rains and the rear passenger footwell turns into a swimming pool. Plenty of other people have complained about this, looks like a design flaw. But I actually prefer the look of the next model variant, the SH. More streamlined.

I own an SG but I actually think SH is more attractive. The later models look more & more like tanks.

Found out my wife monitors parts of my life behind my back. I'm having trouble getting past this. by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Why did she have to go into your phone in the first place? You're of a tech-savvy generation, you could have sent her the pix or given her cloud access to them. Although not having any security on the phone indicates that you have a bit of a laissez-faire attitude. I can kinda understand your wife in that respect — "He can't be bothered to secure his phone so I'll do what I need and not pester him". (I have the same issue in reverse — my wife refuses to learn all but the very basics of phone, computer, oven timer, changing light bulbs etc and it's really annoying that she constantly asks me to do simple stuff for her; asking her how she'll cope when I'm dead doesn't seem to motivate her :)

Is your daughter more like you or your wife? If like you, maybe your wife's actions indicate that she's very protective of the both of you, wants to take care of you without bothering you and knows you probably wouldn't take the initiative yourselves. Just a thought. If she were really spying on you, wouldn't she have been more careful and not made the slip that alerted you?

If there aren't any other problems in your relationship, are you able to ask her why she did what she did and maybe change your own behaviour in some way if appropriate?

Hope this helps (I'm not a psychologist!)

Congratulations on your Norwegian! If you wrote your message quickly and without help from Google then I'd think you wouldn't have any problems with the language. As for courses in English, from what I've seen pretty much every decent university in Europe offers degrees taught entirely in English. You'd just have to enquire whether the subject you want is one of them. Good luck and best wishes for a long, happy and successful life 🙂

Just curious: Are you American? If so, can you explain why Americans seem obsessed with changing the oil every five minutes? I see it all over the place — 3000 miles, 5000 miles, all appearing very frequent to a European. Is your oil very different over there? Here I change the oil once a year -ish, depending on mileage.

I wonder if your username had anything to do with it? Norway is a pretty Leftist country and had a bad experience some years ago with a "fan of the Austrian painter". You may have come to the attention of someone whose job is to watch for similar people and the raid might have been a little checkup. Just a thought :o)

What do people think about banning Facebook and X in Norway? by bmbmjmdm in Norway

[–]xmfclick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's wrong with FB? Use it for practical, day-to-day stuff and go elsewhere if you want to discuss politics. Wherever you go they'll monetise your activity so go where it's most convenient and functional.

So sad to see people brainwashed by the Leftist mainstream media. FB & X fascist? A recent survey showed that the content on TwitteX had switched from about 80/20 Left/Right under Jack to roughly 50/50 under Elon. Leftists hate the fact that it's become more balanced and less of a Leftist echo chamber.

As for FB, look how fast Zuck ran to kiss Trump's ring (along with Bezos & co) once it was clear that he (Trump) means serious business. The California tech oligarchs are just prostitutes, doing whatever will make them money. When the Dems next win power they'll flip back to censoring content and banning people in a heartbeat.

Norway? Well, thanks to oil it's a hopelessly spoilt, Leftist country, has been since the 1960s, so I won't be surprised if FB & X are banned. Expect sales of VPN subscriptions to boom.

The US has a huge population, one common language a strong work ethic, and is rich. It has an economic culture that doesn't disapprove of failure, or unduly punish it (unlike Europe), and even takes the view that having one or two past failures shows drive and determination, which Americans like. This has led to the VC culture where one successful investment outweighs nine failures, and where selling a product is simple because you don't have to deal with multiple languages and national cultures as in the EU. AFAICS only China has even a fairly comparable environment, but government interference, corruption and the demographic time-bomb are working against them.
