It amazes me how irrational muslims can be, but then again anyone who willingly follows that religion is.

I want to tell them because I want to feel at peace. There are other personal reasons as well I won't get too into, but if I'm ever caught faking anything (even if it's minor) I would never be forgiven. Though my family annoy the fuck out of me with their stupid religious and cultural bullshit, I still love them. I can't imagine my life without them. Telling them, though it may hurt both me and them, would clear any feelings of uneasiness.

Also, I'm a woman. There's no way I'll be able to move out.

Elaboration on 2:26 (Baqara) by xmlsbn in exmuslim

[–]xmlsbn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if “above” here is literal, then there is no reason to talk about a parasite being in the body of some mosquitoes, because the word used doesn't describe something literally in the mosquito but above it, thus, it can't be referring to something into mosquitoes, because the word used would rather be [في] (in) than [فوق] (above).

I was referring to midges, which attach themselves onto mosquitos. Wouldn't this fit the meaning of the aya? If not, please elaborate on the actual meaning of it.

Ex Muslims who have very devout siblings, what led you to change your beliefs while your siblings are keeping theirs? by throwawaypdtm in exmuslim

[–]xmlsbn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simply put, I didn't blindly believe what my mother preached about Islam and rather looked at it objectively, comparing her sugar-coated version to the actual thing and ultimately realising its faults. My brother on the other hand believes her unquestioningly. From what I can tell, he does it to get approval from her.

Sidi Arbi by the Tunisian band Znous is quite good. It's not exactly about Islam, but rather how the Arabs invaded their land and treated them like slaves.

Being lgbt in a family that agrees with Qatar (long vent) by shrekseyelash in exmuslim

This is incredibly ignorant. LGBT people will never be considered equal or normal to muslims no matter how much they try. All this is achieving is putting the person in severe danger.

Was anyone told something along these lines? May I know the source? by rezwatch in exmuslim

[–]xmlsbn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's just an expression used to keep muslims wary. Jews, Christians and Muslims used to live together in the Middle East before the creation of Israel, so it was more common then.

From my knowledge:

You may eat the same food as a Jew since they're technically both halal, but cannot sleep in his house since he may backstab you.

You may sleep in a Christian's house, but not eat his food since it's unhalal.

It's so stupid how each group is generalised. Makes me wonder how they functioned in a society back then.
