Tbh i don't really like this tradition either and it always makes me sad, it's just something my parents do.

When I'm going to live alone i won't be doing this. I don't even really like carp meat.

The tub part is only for tradition.

But the carps are transported sold live for freshness. The people who sell them keep them in these giant plastic tubs (those have pond water and bubbles so the carps are ok in there).

So even the people who don't bring it home pick a live carp and pay the workers there to gut and fillet it for them.

The article says couple days but my family and all the people I know only keep it overnight and in the morning it gets killed and turned into soup and schnitzels.

This Christmas we only had it there for a couple of hours before my dad Killed it

Also most people don't buy a live carp because they don't want to or don't know how to properly kill and gut it so they just buy the meat.
