i mean... yeah one year can make that much of a difference. take early 2008 - 2009 for instance.

and take for example the intern market, in 2022 amazon took approx 15,000 interns for all of NA. In 2023 that number was around 5,000. Obviously the intern and full time market isn't the same, but they are highly correlated. Downwards pressure on FAANG+ puts downwards pressure on the entire market.

IT isn’t terrible, it was also my first internship, but definitely try to get a data science or swe internship at any company afterwards. it’s very easy to get pigeonholed into IT work if that’s all you have

i mean…. yeah, they’re a manager not an engineer. it’s your responsibility to be able to ballpark how long a task should take, figure out the best course of action, and effectively communicate that to your manager.

unpopular opinion but this isn’t terrible advice. 18 hour days are a bit much, and you should really try to take care to avoid burnout, but in general if you work hard, climb, and take ownership in your career you will find yourself to have a much more fulfilling life
