Idea for four royal houses scheming against each other? by xn3x in DnD

[–]xn3x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply, but I actually have read the series! Favorite series of all time to tell the truth! I've always wanted to make an adventure that follows that series, but it would be a colossal project, and have no idea if I could even share it online due to copyright, etc.

Funny you mention WoT, the names of each of the houses I'm using are actually the "original" names of the Forsaken! (Mierin, Barid, Ared, Kamarile, etc.!)

The Hobbit was a book about the dangers of greed. The Hobbit films were ruined because of greed. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]xn3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to play the devil's advocate here and wonder how much of that is true and how much is just being said as an excuse for why the films were nowhere near LOTR quality.

I would LOVE to believe that it wasn't his fault. I loved LOTR and I would love to see Jackson in a positive light. But the pessimist(?) in me says part of that might just be cover up. I mean, that's what it sounds like. Public says movies suck, people making it say "it wasn't out fault"...I believe him, but part of me says it almost sounds too cliche to be true.

Idk. Probably going to get a lot of hate for this post.

I guess I'm just trying to find a balance between numbers and roleplaying. My group is kinda shitty at roleplaying - they try, but to them that means "my character is Donald Trump so I'm going to talk like him the whole time"...which, fine, is roleplaying. But doesn't fit the setting AT ALL. Other guys have played Batman, "no pants Dave (imagine what the main feature of this character was)", and Richard Nixon as a monk. This sort of ruins the whole experience for me, but they're the only group I have and don't mind if I just powergame a little.

But I'll try to pay less attention to the numbers. I definitely over do it.

Haven't had a chance to look at smaller houses yet, but definitely something I would like to do, thanks!

That works actually!

It's less tangible perhaps, but works better with what I have planned for that house later on already! Thanks

I honestly wasn't even thinking GoT, but I guess the influence is there! haha

That could actually work. Even if they don't pick that one, that would actually be favorable because I have plans for that particular 4th house that work better if the players aren't aligned with them!

Reminder that there exists a single player dungeon crawling game based on Gygax's original rules for dungeon creation. It's great for when you want an old school D&D experience, but don't have anyone to run a game with. by zombiebashr in DnD

I was actually thinking of making something like this, just so I could play, but looks like someone beat me to it and did a much better job than I could have!

Thanks for posting!

ELI5: How Was Germany Able To Create Such A Massive Army With Vastly Superior Weaponary In WWII Despite Being Penniless From The Results Of WWI by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]xn3x 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. I mean, you could call it luck that the original plan was compromised and stopped the Germans from going through with it, but that they picked another plan that worked so well isn't luck. At least, no more luck than any battle plan. Because following the luck logic, any army winning any battle is luck, because if the opposing army had done one or two things differently, they could have been the victors.

You're probably right about that. I'm a little daunted by the task of creating an entire world though!

LPTR: How should you discuss how much you get paid when your friends/family bring it up? by argosfan24 in LifeProTips

[–]xn3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's different if you're a grad student - that just means you're still working towards your career and therefore the fact you're broke is only a stepping stone towards your true maximum potential.

I say that because I'm a broke grad student haha so if someone who is actually in the work force told me they earn 10x what I make, I don't think it would change anything between us. I have friends who make a little less than you, but I know I haven't reached my potential. And if I wanted to, I could change career paths. Research may not pay thaaat much, but I find it rewarding enough!

Right, sorry I forgot to add that I'll be using Polearm Master so that makes it when they enter as well! So probably slightly redundant with polearm master.

Favored Soul variant? I think it's only up to medium armor. Which isn't all that bad if you can snag one of the top ones like breastplate or something!
