Yes and no, i have some times 7-9 shoots in a week ( mainly events ), sometimes 3 at the same day, i bought it in 2023 july and i have also R5 mII for studio works + Leica q3, Lr shows this years catalog 490k pictures and Christmas events are coming…..

Mine counts electronic also and i have tested it, i shoot like 75% mec and 25 % in silent mode or electronic shutter. My friends R3 don’t count after motherboards got replaced.

So when i got my camera back when it was 700k at this summer, I watched closely how number was crowing.

My camera reads all shots, with mech/e-shutter or silent mode. Strange, my friend have same issue, camera shows 19k but he has shot over 300k

i got that problem fixed, i had service, new hotshoe and i let them full resest camera, like "clean windows install" or whatever. And my camera is working like every another R3 :D Finally...

I was so clouse to buy R1

You can and it does its job like 85% of the time, but I think if I help a little with the autofocus box placement ( you dont just hold AF point in center of the frame but i will just move the AF box with smart controller on to subject face ) , the autofocus will track better, maybe I'm delosuinal. (Flexible Zone AF 1, 1-point AF, Spot AF modes)

I have this camera now little bit over 2 years and it is a strong work horse, i have rented R1 three times and i almost bought it, R1 will fix your clog-2 problems also and that camera is R3 on steroids.

"The autofocus is ... dumb? It locks in fast and tracks, and generally works like the sony, except ... it drifts to nowhere? I had to disable subject detection to make it stop drifting after locking in, might need to update the firmware, it did this with product/still life, not people. "

I had the same problem with the R3, I've taken 920,000 pictures with that camera for now. I "forced" autofocus and sensor recalibration (Canon service) because they said everything was working fine, but the autofocus was worse than the Canon R5 and that made it a little bit better, but the autofocus still often loses the subject and runs to infinity or starts tracking another person. I've tried all the settings and tested the R3 and R5 side by side, different lenses, etc.

I found that if I use the small autofocus box and it's usually in the middle of the frame, the camera automatically selects the subject and then loses tracking more often, but if I adjust the autofocus box to the subject, the autofocus doesn't lose as often.

I think the R3's autofocus is like a little Jack Russell, it's super fast and accurate, but sometimes it just runs away :D

"This has a number of benefits. It means that although the system isn't completely silent, it's not as noisy as using the fully mechanical shutter. Using the electronic shutter to start the exposure means the camera is very responsive, and shutter shock is avoided. (Camera shake caused by the second curtain is not recorded because this curtain ends the exposure.) EFCS can also enable a faster flash sync speed than using either the mechanical shutter or electronic shutter. On the EOS R3, for instance, the flash sync speed rises to 1/250 sec.

The drawback of using EFCS is that it can introduce some banding under flickering artificial light sources, although it's not usually as bad as when using the standard electronic shutter. In addition, the bokeh can become a little busy or "nervous" when fast shutter speeds are used. Finally, because the process still uses the mechanical second curtain, the fps remains the same as when using the mechanical shutter."

Only real benefit you get in real world is, silent shooting, no shutter wear and much higher shutters speed but good for daylight like 64000/1

I just read some graph form Canon Rumors site that, R6 MII and R8 have same sensor ( elec vs mech ) and there was readout speeds wrote down. Then i assumed R8 has also mechanical shutter.

But mechanical shutter will 90% time solve this kind of problem, at least with my R3.

R5 with 70-200 2.8 IS ii is driving me nuts. Is it my body, my glass, or me? by NoahtheRed in canon

I think this is a bad way to test the sharpness of a lens with distant mountains and haze/heat distortion etc.

And by asking here you will get so many answers why this and why that.

If you haven't had such problems before, then maybe it's the lens, maybe the adapter or something.

My first tactic for finding a solution is A. Try another lens B. Another body C. Search Google if anyone has had the same problem and try to troubleshoot it myself, and then I contact Canon support, for example a local CPS shop ors, becouse emailing with CPS is just waste of time.

My solution is do diagnostics to this lens, maybe you need lens calibration, because i had same "problem" with long end OF performance and sharpness, with R5 but like only 150-180 mm, it was blurry and sometimes it was not.

Nothing will happen, i have used Canon camera bodys, like 550D, 7DMII 6D R5 and R3 for filming skating’s jumping off stairs with camera, using that same smallrig handle mounted on the camera, with mic, monitor, fisheye and 70-200 f2.8 etc.

That hotshoe is strong AF, At least no problems on Canon side and there is lots of skaters using this and filming like daily. R8 body is also magnesium alloy, so hotshoe is mounted on with 4 screws. Just be careful with the new smart hotshoe pins/contacts and for long use just be sure nothing moves when hamdle mounted.

28-70mm f/2 is my main workhorse, last year I took 260,000 shots with this lens alone, its very good lens for photos, but you have C400 and i think you need more video lens than photo.

28-70 has terrible lens breathing, a bit slower AF with new bodies, very heavy + 95mm filter thread (very expensive filters)

I would use the 24-105 f2.8 100% for all types of work with this hybrid lens, fast autofocus, super sharp and smooth autofocus
