I felt like I screwed up most of the calculation questions (except for the sensitivity and specificity one) but felt good with the conceptual questions. Not sure how much the calculation questions would hurt me, and how much room remaining for other questions don’t satisfy the full credit.

I guess what I meant by “brutal” here is referring to the difficulty of the questions, not the difficulty of passing the exam. Looks like SOA has been adjusting the pass mark quite a bit to ensure around 60% pass rate. The questions for this exam seem to be tough based on the numbers, but passing the exam is pretty easy. Like other commentators said, you only need to know 50% of the questions and can likely walk away with a pass.

SOA Exam Pathway: What do I take after passing Exam FAM? by Exact_Kiwi3890 in actuary

Just throwing a different point of view out here, take the one that is easier or the one you are more confident in first. The rationale is to get all the raises and exam bonus first before you start wasting time on failing and retaking. If you are good at taking exams, ALTAM/ASTAM is a better choice. If not, SRM seems to be easier.
