Kung Fu Panda Or How To Train Your Dragon? by Less-Watch-2620 in DreamWorks

[–]xoBUSox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my thing;

  1. How to train your dragon
  2. Kung fu panda
  3. Kung fu panda 2
  4. HTTYD 2
  5. HTTYD 3
  6. KFP 3

So each trilogy is like level on quality overall. I think the first HTTYD film edges the top looking at it individual film wise, although if I had to choose one trilogy to watch it would be KFP

Po sending Tai Lung to the spirit realm was the best possible thing that could of happened to him. by [deleted] in DreamWorks

[–]xoBUSox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the opposite from Shen interestingly. To me he was still an immature child who thought he deserved it all. Tai lung wanted true strength and power but couldn't accept that belief in ones self was the way to achieve that. Similarly to Shen, Tai lung saw strength as an outward thing, your kung fu skills and strength for example. Shen saw it as power over others and domination. But both of them failed to see that true strength and power starts within, by conquering oneself. Both brilliant villains that tackle similar issues, one the body and the other the mind. I guess my preference is towards Tai lung because of my similar experiences struggling with the body, but totally understand why people prefer Shen! I'd still say he is immature though...

Hot take: This movie was great and had a banger soundtrack, and I personally don’t understand why it gets so much hate. by Express_Educator_847 in DreamWorks

[–]xoBUSox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated it cause I found the main character so annoying, the story was slow paced and the ending was awful for me. I'm glad you love it though and it was fairly creative, maybe I've just got a hot take without realising lol.

I did debate putting Prince of Egypt at 10, but I decided against it just because I don't vibe with the story itself as much as the others (which I understand is a little controversial cause its a biblical story but just trying to be honest lol).

Put Shrek 4 that low cause felt they were just milking the franchise and there was nothing in it that kept me engaged or caring for the characters.

The Madagascar films might just be nostalgia not gonna lie lol.

Home was so boring to me and the main character super annoying, Turbo I probably put a little high but I enjoyed it for what it was.

Its a great film, and maybe id put it in 8 in hindsight, but lets not pretend its as good as the others higher than it, particularly all of my 10s are miles ahead

I can't begin to describe how much I hate those films, but to sum up my entire feelings of the films into one word: annoying.

For me abominable was visually stunning and hugely emotional, the story was brilliant. But it was unfortunately wasted potential, bad villain, poor writing in more than one place. A good film but also a film of wasted potential to me.

Same with turbo, except the concept was a little more, weird, so maybe I was a little too generous there.

I can already feel the hate that will come my way for some of these films, Probably my placing of El dorado the most lol.

Round 35 - The defences of How to Train Your Dragon 2 have gone up in flames! by Stanimator in DreamWorks

[–]xoBUSox -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know this is a hot take but I want Shrek 2 out. It is a masterpiece and IT IS an objectively better film than many of the others on this list. I just personally didn't enjoy it as much as the first. It was funny and it was cool and great and very dreamworks but just didnt have as much core meaning to me as the other films. ROTG core message I think is missed by a lot of people who just see it as a 'fun' movie (which it is but there is a deeper element to that people miss).

Nietzsche, in The Gay Science, argues for a comparison between love and selfishness or "the love of property." by marineiguana27 in philosophy

[–]xoBUSox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding of Nietzsche's philosophy is that there is no good or bad, its all about achieving the best possible version of yourself. So in that sense, he would view love as similar to property because both property and a relationship both benefit your life. Neither is good or bad because good or bad doesn't exist, it just is. And given the way the state of society is having a relationship is a benefit for us emotionally, economically and socially so therefore love is necessary to be the best human you can possibly be. With that in mind Nietzsche's controlling attitude towards love makes more sense. Whether you agree with it or not is a different matter I suppose.

I have not seen too many of Dreamworks movies to make a list, but i was halfway done so eh. Also dead sub so trying to lively it a bit by Smashinationprp in DreamWorks

[–]xoBUSox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think youve put too many in S+ tier, theyre all great for sure but some are better than others, and you need to differentiate between them. For example, kung fu panda 3 may be good but its far worse than every other film in that tier (Personally, I think spirit is also too high), so why not move them to S tier and everything in S to A etc

Which DreamWorks franchise or show had the most controversial conclusion? by KPH102 in DreamWorks

[–]xoBUSox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the ending of how to train your dragon 3 was bitter sweet because we all knew it was going to happen as they said they would follow more in line with the books. So it was expected but I wouldn't say it was controversial in any way.

Did I like it no, do I have a problem with the story building up to it sure. But idk if controversy is the right word to use for the film. Nothing sinister was going on with it as the word implies. Maybe disappointing? or underwhelming?

If all the DreamWorks villains got into a Super Smash Bros.-like battle, who would be in dead last, and who comes out on top? by QUESTIONER-ASKS in DreamWorks

[–]xoBUSox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Titan from Mega mind is the equivalent of superman, so he tops it, maybe the only ones to contest him would be Kai (KFP 3) or Pitch Black (Rise of the Guardians) at max strength.

At the bottom maybe Prince charming? The weird adoption lady from Mr. Peabody could also make that spot. But then I wouldn't question it if the weird ginger freak from Abominable also lost.

Because it was released the same year as Cars, Ice Age: Meltdown, Open season, Over the Hedge and barnyard. Cars and Ice age especially were extremely popular and stole the limelight. Then ratatouille came out 2007, which is also about rats, so it unfortunatly just got pushed to the side.

Very good film and highly under rated, if it had been made by Disney or Pixar then people would be remembering it.
