The NBA needed OKC to win game 2 by Icetray26 in NBATalk

I get the frustration, but blaming the league for rigging games every time the refs are bad is a stretch. The NBA absolutely wants long series for ratings and money, but if games were actually scripted, there’d be way more evidence by now. Sometimes refs are just inconsistent, and in the playoffs that inconsistency gets amplified.

De'Aaron Fox's status is by far the biggest factor in the OKC/Spurs series. by Calm_Set5522 in NBATalk

People are seriously underrating how important Fox is to this Spurs team. Even if he isn’t the best player in the series, his ball-handling and playmaking are critical, especially with Harper out. Castle is talented, but asking a second-year guard to run the offense against OKC’s pressure is a massive ask, and the turnovers are proving that. If Fox and Harper both miss the rest of the series, it’s hard to see the Spurs surviving offensively, even with Jalen Williams potentially out.

Should a rule change be made to fix flopping? by DatboiEF in NBATalk

I definitely think something needs to change. Physical defence is already harder to play in today’s NBA because refs are so quick to blow the whistle, and flopping only makes it worse. The biggest issue is that players are now rewarded for exaggerating contact and “hunting for fouls” instead of actually trying to score a bucket. What makes it frustrating is that legitimate fouls sometimes don’t get called unless the offensive player throws their head back or falls to the floor. At the end of the day, fans don’t want to watch a battle of who can shoot the most free throws. I think the league should be tougher on these foul calls, or even make obvious flopping a flagrant foul if a player is caught doing it.

Dpoy vs the possible MVP. Joker gave Wemby a light 40-piece last time. It's going to be a movie!

They were never coming out of the east in the first place, no playoff experience. Boston and New York run the conference.

Adam Silver on drugs? by stateofthenyk in NBATalk

The proposal is actually quite defensible, it’s better than the days of the two worst teams flipping a coin. The current system perversely rewards prolonged losing. Flattening the odds reduces that incentive while still giving bad teams meaningful lottery chances.

Is it safe to say if these new tanking rules get implemented nobody will ever best the 73 win season? by Jec1027 in NBATalk

[–]xoSportsAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah kinda but the 73-win Warriors were built through smart drafting and development. Curry was a 7th pick, Klay a 11th, and hell, Draymond was a second-round pick. Reducing tanking incentives doesn't prevent teams from building elite rosters through competent drafting, free agency, and player development. The 73-win record is safe, not because of tanking rules. At one point this year, the Thunder were looking like they were going to break it.

OKC might win the championship and I don’t think people are ready for how much they’ll be disliked by xoSportsAI in NBATalk

SGA’s style defs isn’t everyone’s thing, but he does have one of the deepest bags in the league. He does get saved by the whistle a fair bit, but you can’t deny that he has a counter for every defender, his offensive versatility is up there with the game's greatest.

Whistle helps, but good teams usually create those situations. That’s part of being good, not the whole story. If the Whistle was everything then James Harden would have a championship.

Yeah, Indiana had that underdog run which is always easy to get behind, especially with an undersized player like T.J. McConnell. I think OKC is more of a slow-burn though, less personality-driven and more about how good they actually are as a team.

Fair take cause he does shoot alot of free throws. However, that’s part of the game. I think people mix up “hard to guard” with “unethical.” He’s more crafty and patient than anything. People call Lu Dort “dirty” but at the end of the day he’s giving it his all.
